apache and fcgid
So I decided to just go with apache2 and fcgid. I looked into Mongrel
and apache and I looked into lighttpd and fastcgi and found both to be
too time consuming and not well enough documented for what I''m doing.
My question is, how do I set up apache and fcgid to actually work? I got
apache installed. I think I got fcgid installed (I read somewhere all I
have to do is move the

Can''t quite get fcgid working
I''m having trouble with running my app under fcgid. I am getting errors in
my Apache log. It seems that it is choking on the gems replacement for
require. The relevant lines from /var/log/apache2/error.log:
/usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:21:in `require__'': no such file to load -- initializer (LoadError)

Problem integrating rails into apache
Hi all,
I''ve read the guide on integrating rails into apache on the
wiki.rubyonrails.com wiki, but I run into a problem.
I am trying to get the cookbook application as treated in the onlamp
tutorial about ruby on rails to work form apache. I can view the
index.html, but visiting cookbook/recipe/list gives me

Apache not running Fcgid
I''m having the same problems as this fellow, Mr. Cheetham, in getting
my rails app up and running on apache2+fcgid. Webrick runs, but
dispatch.fcgi never actually runs, and apache spits out a grusome
"Premature end of script headers: dispatch.cgi" error message in the
log. Mr. Cheetham describes his problem at

Set base url?
I have an application running on a Lighttpd instance which is proxied by an
Apache server. It seems to work fine but my urls are incorrect: all urls
reference / which is not where my application runs at the Apache server.
How do I set the base url of a Rails application?
My Apache has the following proxy rules:
ProxyPass /hieraki http://localhost:3001
ProxyPassReverse /hieraki

fcgid -> errors
Hi,
I''m trying to get rails running on Debian stable with Apache 2,
mod_fcgid, Rails 1.0. The application works fine with webrick (*).
Let''s start here:
@eugene [/var/www/ls2/linuxsi/public] $ ./dispatch.fcgi
Status: 500 Internal Server Error
Seems to result in the following in the log files:
[12/Feb/2006:12:18:40 :: 4105] starting
[12/Feb/2006:12:18:40 :: 4105] terminated

Facebooker and file_column
Facebooker URL Rewriter stuff overloads ActionController::AbstractRequest.relative_url_root, causing a conflict with the plugin file_column and possibly other utilities. file_column constructs image URLs using the server host and relative_url_root
This is not related to the sandbox patch I added to the rewriter. Facebooker overloaded relative_url_root before I touched it.

relative_url_root and javascript_include_tag
Hi. In my environment.rb, I have:
ActionController::AbstractRequest.relative_url_root = "/foobar"
In my layout, I have:
<%= javascript_include_tag :defaults %>
Question 1:
I am getting an error:
ActionController::RoutingError (no route found to match
"/javascripts/prototype.js" with {:method=>:get}):
When I remove the relative_url_root, everything works great.

apache/lighttpd or apache with fcgid
I am trying to determine (from people''s experience here) if there is a
benefit to proxying apache -> lighttpd -> rails instead of just using apache
mod_fcgid -> rails. I am having some concerns of the stability of the fcgid
apache modules as well as the incredibly painful first connect issue with
apache mod_fcgid. Is the lighttpd fcgi more stable and mature than apache ?

I can''t get mod_fcgid to work
Hi,
I just installed mod_fcgid on my apache2 server.
When I try to load my application I get an
"Application error - Rails application failed ..." message.
In my Apache2 error-log it says:
Premature end of script headers dispatch.fcgi
mod_fcgid process /data/www/app/dispacth.fcgi exit (communication
error),
terminated by calling exit(), return code 1

[mod_fcgid] 503 server temporarily unavailable
Hi There,
Every now and then, and recently more and more we get a "503 server
temporarily unavailable" error from our rails app.
We are running Rails 1.0 with mod_fcgid in Apache 2.0.54 on Debian
The thing is I don''t think we have such a heavy load on the server, and
I haven''t seen this error occur at all outside the rails app. In fact I
don''t think I ever

Recommendations for Apache 2 with mod_fcgid
Hi,
Have been pulling out my hair for the last few days wondering what I''m
going to deploy my site onto.
I currently have FreeBSD 4.7, Apache 1.3.3, PHP 4 and MySQL 4 running a
year-old PHP site. Dated stuff I know!
The new version of the site will be entirely Ruby on Rails, and I am
wondering what order I should be doing things in terms of upgrades and
installation. I want to be

Running apps in subdirectories using lighty/scgi
Hi,
So thanks to Zed I was able to get lighty/scgi and a Rails app running.
I know this might not be the best place to post this, but I guessed
there may be several others with similar experiences here.
So, the following step is to have several apps each in its on
subdirectory. I tried the following to no avail:
$HTTP["url"] =~ "^/tango/" {
server.document-root =

[PLUGIN] url_for_with_prefix - allowing you to modify/remove prefixes easily
Here''s the readme. I think it''s okay to post this kind of thing to
the mailing list. Anyway, hopefully someone else finds this useful.
UrlForWithPrefix

By Pat Maddox
Very simple plugin, adds the :prefix option to url_for.
Say in your environment.rb file you''ve got

fcgid woes
hi there,
I''m running rails on apache2 with mod_fcgid which works, but I''m having trouble with environments adn separate dev & prodution vhosts. I have DefaultInitEnv set in the VirtualHost directive for each (as production | development), which works fine after a server restart for whichever vhost I hit first, but thereafter the RAILS_ENV seems to be locked into one

Problem uploading files (possibly an OS X issue?)
I have a running Rails application that uploads files back to the
server occasionally. I recently switched my development machine from a
Linux box to OS X 10.5, using the Apache server built-in on OS X and
mod_fcgid. I thought everything was fine until I recently tried to use
the file upload feature. If I specify a reasonable sized (164 Kb) file
for upload then I get an immediate error, before my

hosting multiple rails apps in one webroot?
It''s actually REALLY easy with lighttpd on linux.
Two apps...
Myserver.com/code/ => /apps/code/
Myserver.com/test/ +> /apps/test/
Each application needs this in the environment.rb
/apps/code/config/environment.rb
ActionController::AbstractRequest.relative_url_root = "/code"
/apps/test/config/environment.rb
ActionController::AbstractRequest.relative_url_root

Rails app in a subdirectory via Mongrel
I''m trying to make Mongrel the default web server for Typo, but I''m running
into a problem. Is there an easy way to run a Rails app in a subdirectory (
http://foo/blog instead of http://foo/) with Mongrel? For most apps, I''d
just change routes.rb to include the prefix that I wanted, but that won''t
really work with Typo--I''d rather not require a few

Again on Apache 2
Hello everybody.
I know, I know, another post about Apache 2, but I have looked a lot on
the internet and I haven''t found the answer to my problem.
I have a Linux Fedora Core 5 box, with Apache 2.2.2 (compiled and
installed), Ruby 1.8.4 (compiled and installed), RubyGems 0.8.11
(compiled and installed) and Rails... I don''t know what version as this
one I haven installed
