Textmate Rails Plugin Cheat Sheet
I''m a slow learner when it come to shortcuts and i got real tired looking up Textmate''s Rails snippets & commands in the context menu. So i fired up trusty OmniGraffle and quickly created a little Cheat Sheet for all default snippets/macros/commands in Textmate''s current Rails Bundle. Certainly helped me to remember these quickly. So, if you''re

avoiding nil object error?
I''m a total Rails newbie and i''ve been struggling for hours today with one (prolly very silly) problem: I have a table portfolios that has many images: class Portfolio < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :images end class Image < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :portfolios end In the controller i define a list of active portfolios: @active_portfolios =

whatever happend to unobtrusive javascript in Rails ?
Don''t get me wrong, JavaScript/Ajax helpers in Rails are a huge timesaver and they have helped me to finally overcome my irrational aversion to js libraries like prototype and such. However, all this goodness seems to come at quiet a price. The resulting code is littered with inline JS, including ubiquitous script tags and onload attributes etc.. It seems that just when i found

error: uninitialized constant
total rails nuby here. I have a table "thumbnails", hence the model Thumbnail. I''m extending the Thumbnail class with a few constants needed for thumbnail cropping: class Thumbnail < ActiveRecord::Base SOURCE_FILE_PATH = "path/to/source" TARGET_FILE_PATH = "path/to/target" TARGET_WIDTH = 100 TARGET_HEIGHT = 100 end Now, in my controller

Multiple Undo History
I need to implement multiple undo functionality into a Rails app (my first one). Essentially, every .update and .save needs to record the previous data set and save them in a history table along with some identifying stamps, so each db action can be rolled back at any time. From what i can tell, i could implement this manually using observers perhaps; but this is Rails, so i wonder if

(OS X) Address binding still exists after terminating session
[using mongrel-0.3.13.4 pre-release, OX 10.4.7] I have a slightly annoying issue under OS X: If i terminate the session that ran the mongrel process (by closing terminal window -- hey, it happens!), subsequent attempts to start mongrel give me the following error: /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-0.3.13.4/lib/mongrel/ tcphack.rb:12:in `initialize_without_backlog'':

rails/lighttpd on os x
I''m trying to set up my Rails development app for public access on OS X. I''m using the bundled lighttpd server. The first thing i tried to do is simply start lighttpd on port 80. When i set "server.port = 80" in lighttpd.conf i get the following error message after running ruby script/server: (network.c.265) can''t bind to port 80 Permission denied i

Possible to implement Textmate key shortcuts in RadRails?
The Rails demo videos is a great showoff on how productive Textmate editor is. The 15 minute build-a-blog example should be twice as long if there had been no keyboard shortcuts in Textmate. Unfortunately, I use windows and thus RadRails. Does anyone know how to implement the same keyboard shortcut into RadRails? Sebastian Friedrich made an overview of the keyboard shortcuts:

drop1 with contr.treatment
Dear R Core Team I've a proposal to improve drop1(). The function should change the contrast from the default ("treatment") to "sum". If you fit a model with an interaction (which ist not signifikant) and you display the main effect with drop1( , scope = .~., test = "F") If you remove the interaction, then everything's okay. There is no way to fit a

Structural equation models with R
Hello useRs, I`m running structural equation models with R, but for one of my models the below error message apears. I`m trying to change startvalues but without success. The manual for sem package did not help me. Does anyone knows how to change startvalues for iteration in sem package? Or it can be another problem with the model? Error in startvalues(S, ram, debug = debug, tol = start.tol)

multiple nesting levels in GEE
Hello, I'm actually trying to fit a gee model with 2 nesting levels since I expect a correlation between all members of a litter at a first level and between all individuals sharing a mother at a second superior level with an exchangeable matrix. I order my dataframe by both mother and litter I try several syntaxes: id= mother*litter which give the same correlation matrix as id=

split plot design with missing plots
Windows 2000 . 5.00.2195 with Service Pack 1. R 1.5.1 Output from my split-split plot aov "alerted" me that I have done something wrong. I designed an experiment with all combinations of all levels of each treatment, but lost a little data (3 out of 192 plots). With the following data, I run the following model: > collim[c(1:6,187:192),c(1,3:6,9)] plot Litter Fert

Pairwise comparison, TukeyHSD, glht, ANCOVA
Hi, I'm wondering if i can use the function "TukeyHSD" to perform the all pairwise comparisons of a "aov()" model with one factor (e.g., GROUP) and one continuous covariate (e.g., AGE). I did for example: library(multcomp) data('litter', package = 'multcomp') litter.aov <- aov(weight ~ gesttime + dose, data = litter) TukeyHSD(litter.aov, which =

coxme AIC score and p-value mismatch??
Hi, I am new to R and AIC scores but what I get from coxme seems wrong. The AIC score increases as p-values decrease. Since lower AIC scores mean better models and lower p-values mean stronger effects or differences then shouldn't they change in the same direction? I found this happens with the data set rats as well as my own data. Below is the output for two models constructed with the rats

coxme for random effects only model
Dear all, I have encountered the following problem where coxme seems to allow model with only random effect in R 2.11.1 but not in R 2.13.0. Following is the error message using rat example data. Any comment on this is appreciated. In R2.13 > library(coxme) > rat1 <- coxme(Surv(time, status) ~ rx + (1|litter), rats) > rat0 <- coxme(Surv(time, status) ~ (1|litter), rats)

Problem with stemming and AAF
I''m sure I''m missing something completely obvious here, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction! I''ve implemented a basic search with AAF, which works as expected; I''m running a ferret drb server, and using will_paginate to page results. The code in my search_controller.rb: search_text = params[:query] || " " @products =
