Dynamic-irq''s in HVM domains
''cat /proc/interrupts'' in a Linux PV domain shows interrupts starting at
256 and labelled as ''Dynamic-irq''. Are these available in a HVM domain,
eg under Windows?
Thanks
James

Hypervisor to dom0 communication
I am working on a security tool that monitors various components (IDT, SSDT,
etc) of a domU using VM introspection. Currently, we''re using a polling
method to monitor these in-core structions. We would like to be able to use
a blocking method instead. I.e. specify "interesting" memory ranges and
then wait until they are modified.
How can I get the hypervisor to alert a

Xen PVM: Strange lockups when running PostgreSQL load
I am currently looking at a bug report[1] which is happening when
a Xen PVM guest with multiple VCPUs is running a high IO database
load (a test script is available in the bug report).
In experimenting it seems that this happens (or is getting more
likely) when the number of VCPUs is 8 or higher (though I have
not tried 6, only 2 and 4), having autogroup enabled seems to
make it more likely, too

[PATCH][xentrace][HVM] introduce HVM tracing to unify SVM and VMX tracing
Hello,
this patch introduces HVM tracing: one tracing class for both, SVM and
VMX.
It adds several new trace events. So we can differentiate between them
in the xentrace formats file and format each event''s data items
appropriately. With this patch the xentrace_format output is much more
informative.
The previous simple tracing in SVM and VMX is completely replaced.
Unfortunately I

[PATCH] bug-fixes to hvc-xen driver in v3.4 (and earlier).
Three of the patches could be squashed in one, but it makes more sense
to review them as three. These patches fix the case of an PVHVM
guest not being able to resume propely b/c of hitting:
142 BUG_ON(info->type != IRQT_UNBOUND && info->type != type);
(in events.c) and also adds a WARN to catch situations like these.
The reason for this is that the Xen python toolstack

[PATCH 5/6] xen, tools: calculate nr_cpus via num_online_cpus
Once Xen calculates nr_nodes properly, all nr_cpu calculations based on
nr_nodes * sockets_per_node * cores_per_socket * threads_per_core are
broken. The easy fix is to replace those calculations with a new field,
nr_cpus in physinfo which is calculated by num_online_cpus(). This
patch does so and attempts to change all users over to nr_cpus field in
physinfo. This patch touches

[PATCH] libxc: fix tracing (broken with hypercall buffers)
Hi,
the attached patch makes Xen tracing work again, after the introduction
of the hypercall buffers broke it. Just a missing line.
Thanks to Uwe Dannowski for reporting this.

[PATCH v7 1/2] xen: unify domain locking in domctl code
These two patches were originally part of the XSM series that I have
posted, and remain prerequisites for that series. However, they are
independent of the XSM changes and are a useful simplification
regardless of the use of XSM.
The Acked-bys on these patches were provided before rebasing them over
the copyback changes in 26268:1b72138bddda, which had minor conflicts
that I resolved.

VIRQ_CON_RING
Is there any real user for this vIRQ? I''m asking because, while debugging
a problem that required to add some printk()s that could temporarily issue
at a high rate, I ran into the situation that this extra output prevented
guest/dom0 boot from making any progress. As I then realized this was
due to the tasklet_schedule() called from inside the console handling
code, which resulted in

[PATCH 00 of 38] xen: add more Xen dom0 support
Hi Ingo,
Here''s the chunk of patches to add Xen Dom0 support (it''s probably
worth creating a new xen/dom0 topic branch for it).
A dom0 Xen domain is basically the same as a normal domU domain, but
it has extra privileges to directly access hardware. There are two
issues to deal with:
- translating to and from the domain''s pseudo-physical addresses and

Anyone have the userguide''s tc script and the corresponding ethloop input files?
I''m trying to get picture from ethloop and gnuplot. But the output seems weird. I still do not know why and want some examples.
Thanks in advance.

[PATCH] nr_cpus calculation problem due to incorrect sockets_per_node
Testing on an 8-node 128-way NUMA machine has exposed a problem with
Xen''s nr_cpus calculation. In this case, since Xen cuts off recognized
CPUs at 32, the machine appears to have 16 CPUs on the first and second
nodes and none on the remaining nodes. Given this asymmetry, the
calculation of sockets_per_node (which is later used to calculate
nr_cpus) is incorrect:

RPC interface for xenmon
Hi,
I read about RPC interface for xenmon in this presentation:

Has such interface been implemented yet by anyone?
Thanks,

XEN 4.0.2-rc2 - using OCAML xenstored -- xend not starting?
Hi All,
I just tried a new installation of Ubuntu 10.04 (64bit) + Xen and am
having some trouble starting XEN. I am using the latest mercurial checkout
(4.0.2-rc2) and the only change I made was to Config.mk to enable building
the OCAML version of xenstored. " CONFIG_OCAML_XENSTORED ?= y". I am using
the same kernel I built earlier for a similar Ubuntu 10.04-64bit / Xen

[PATCH] xenmon: remove magic number "31" (the idle domain)
Hi,
This patch removes the magic number "31" for readability. The number
"31" means the idle domain ID.
In detail:
- display the idle domain ID with "Idle" instead of "31"
- write to the file "log-idle.log" instead of "log-dom31.log".

[PATCH] Make xentrace hypercall a bit more sane
xentrace, setsize and the hypervisor don''t seem to be on the same
page. If tracing is not enabled, the hypercall will only allow
TBUF_SET_SIZE and TBUF_ENABLE. However, set_size calls TBUF_GET_INFO,
and xentrace wants to call TBUF_SET_EVT_MASK and TBUF_SET_CPU_MASK
before calling TBUF_ENABLE.
I don''t see any reason not to call SET_*_MASK and GET_INFO if tracing
is not enabled.

xen usage monitoring (munin plugin)
Dear list,
as my Xen3 server is finaly becomming ready for production I was
wondering if anyone has written a xen usage monitoring/logging tool?
Something like xm top, but with continuose logging to a (rr)database.
Or a munin plugin?
I can''t remember seeing anything simmilar on the list.
BTW: where does xm top get the NETTX(k) and NETRX(k) from?
For a munin plugin I''d

[OCAML 0/7] V4 or so of the xen ocaml packaging patches
Here is the latest version of the patches to package the ocaml libraries. Changes
since last time:
* rename the packages from libxen-4.1-ocaml* to libxen-ocaml* - we wont be
looking to install multiple concurrent versions of the same package, so
the version doesn't need to be in the package name
* Removed superfluous GENCONTROL definitions - dh_ocaml does what we need

[PATCH] drm/gem: Expose the buffer object handle to userspace last
From: Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko.ursulin at intel.com>
Currently drm_gem_handle_create_tail exposes the handle to userspace
before the buffer object constructions is complete. This allowing
of working against a partially constructed object, which may also be in
the process of having its creation fail, can have a range of negative
outcomes.
A lot of those will depend on what the individual
