Rails Edge, has_many :through in searches
I have two tables, a Projects table and a Clients table.
It''s basically a HABTM relationship, but I have additional project/
client-specific information in the join table. I''m trying to use the
new has_many :through method to join these. It works fine when
displaying records, but when I try to search, I''m having this problem:

BackgrounDRb not working properly with files ?
Hey there,
I''m kinda new to BackgrounDRb but I''m facing a big problem which I
can''t seem to wrap my head around.
The short version of it is : code that works when tested inside RoR''s
console doesn''t work when executed by a BackgrounDRb worker.
So I''ve tried a lot of things, including checking that the
"load_rails" was true in the

has_many models in a form
Hi, guys.
There are four models in the program, A has_many B through C, B has_many
A through C, A has_many D, D belongs_to A. I have a form to create A.
Inspired by Ryan Bates'' railscasts I was able to create A and D in the
same form, and link A to B(created beforehand) through C in the same
form as well. Is it possible to create A and B in the same form?
Thanks in advance.

Creating form for associated has_many model
This example shows how to create a form for an associated model
''Comment'', where ''Comment'' belongs_to ''Post'' and ''Post has_many
''Comments''.

How might I modify that to display all the comments in the form, and
still have it call the

has_many and has_one ... and nested form
Hiya
I am looking at Rails 2.3.2 and how to cleanly do the following:
- I have model User
- User has many Plans
- User has one Active Plan
- New User form has fields on it to create the Active Parent
I want to create a new User with an Active Plan in one form.
At the moment I have:
class User < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :active_plan, :class_name => ''Plan'',

has_many, :finder_sql, setting attributes
Hi all,
My question is somewhat complicated, but bear with me. My project has a
number of models: User, Program, and Team. Users belong to multiple
Programs. Programs have multiple teams, but Teams belong to one
program. For each Program a User belongs to, he can belong to multiple
Teams. (Think of this in an athletic context where users are athletes,
programs are universities). So my

rails 2.3 nested forms with has_many through checkboxes
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to combine the new nested
forms in rails 2.3 with a has_many through relationship via
checkboxes. Basically I have a page model, a page_category model and
a category_items join table. Pages have many page categories through
category items. The category_items table is polymorphic so i can use
it for other models who need categories (maybe this is

Scope problem with form_remote_tag, ajax?
Hi all,
I have tracked an odd behavior down to what I think is an issue of
scope. In short, when I use form_remote_tag to establish an AJAX form,
my database fields don''t get populated when performing an edit on the
record. Those same fields will get populated using start_form_tag and
no AJAX. I think that Ruby can''t find the local object that represents
the database

CRUD pattern for has_many relationships (forms containing collections)?
Hello folks!
Beare with me for a second, while I explain my problem.
Assuming we have the trivial model of
class Author
has_many :books
end
class Book
end
How do people go about creating the authors/edit and authors/new
views if you want to be able to add and remove arbitrary amount of
Books at Author creation and edit time? What I mean by this is that I

Nested Forms with has_many associations with validations
I want to have a parent model that I can add child objects (via a
has_many association) using the rails 2.3 nested form syntax. However,
it seems like rails throws an error during validation of the parent
model if I have a validates_presence_of :parent_id defined in the child
model.
Is the only solution to this to remove the validates_presence_of
:parent_id? This seems like a hack-ish workaround.

has_many :through with has_many/has_many join models
It seems that using a join model that joins with two has_many''s will
fail to generate proper SQL

class Semester < ActiveRecord::Base

Possible bug: ActiveRecord::Base::has_many fails for String arguments.
Hi
I''ve noticed ActiveRecord::Base::has_many fails for String arguments.
The following code works when all arguments to the
ActiveRecord::Base::has_many calls are Symbols:
class Country < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :country_products, :dependent => true
has_many :products, :through => :country_products
end
ruby script/console
>> Country.find_all.first.products

has_many questions
My application has two models I''d like to have multiple join tables
between, Users and Groups. Users have the ability to subscribe to a
Group, while a Group would like to know its membership.
Additionally, a User can administer several Groups and a Group should
know about its several Administators (Users).
I have the following declarations:

Change to has_many :through associations
Hi everyone. I''ve made a default change to has_many :through
associations that I felt was important to make before they''re
released. This is after some tickets and confusion I''ve seen
regarding has_many :through.
class Connection < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :user
belongs_to :channel
end
class Channel < ActiveRecord::Base

Problem with has_many :through, :uniq => true with polymorph
Didn''t have quite enough space to describe it there...basically i''m
having a problem with the :uniq option in my tags.
I''m using acts_as_taggable_on_steroid which adds these associations to
my Resource class:
Resource
has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable, :dependent => :destroy, :include
=> :tag
has_many :tags, :through => :taggings, :uniq => true

Dynamic order on has_many relationship?
I was wondering if it''s possible to some how control the :order given
on a has_many depending on another attribute?
Or do I need to just create multiple has_many relationships pointing
to the same table but with different orders and then select which one
I use in the controller instead?
e.g
class Category < AR::B
has_many :products, :order => //something magical?//
end
