[UNDER CONSTRUCTION] YAC? (Yet Another Capistrano)
My needs are far more modest than Capistrano''s capabilities. Also, when working in a shared hosting environment, the Capistrano model can be outside the capabilities allowed by the Web host. I simply need to push selected directories (on a changed-file basis) out to a server. I have about 80% of the code written to do this (I''m considering YAC for the name, with a nod to

Console for Testing Routes?
Hi, when the "Agile Web Development" book talks about routes, there are what looks like console transcripts like the following: URL> store @params = {:controller => ''store'', :action = ''index''} Is there something like a console for testing routes (where you could put in a url and see how rails would route it)?? Examples for Money library ?
Can anybody share some examples of their Money implementation ? I''m trying to setup a Model to use this library, but can''t seem to wrap my head around how it is exactly supposed to work. My Model (Foo) looks like: =============== composed_of :commission, :class_name => "Money", :mapping => [ %w(commission_cents cents), %w(commission_currency currency) ] Yet, in

Multiple "has" in ActiveRecord
Please excuse a newbie question, but I couldn''t find anything by searching the archives. What I want to know is how to have multiple references to the same class/table within a class. For example, let''s say I have a table called People: create table people ( id serial8 primary key ,name); which just holds a list of the people in the database. Then I have another

Best way to bill through LinkPoint? Is ActiveMerchant solid?
I need to set up a site to charge cards through LinkPoint. I did some searching to see what was available, and saw that Shopify uses ActiveMerchant. I saw that it hasn''t been touched in several months, though perhaps that''s simply because it hasn''t needed any changes. Just wondering what''s the best way to go about this. Thanks for any info. Liquid - form helpers? multiple liquid templates?
Hi, Its taking me a long time to get my head around the Liquid plugin. I have a couple of questions which hopefully someone can help me with... - How difficult would it be to add some kind of Filter or Tag which would allow other Liquid templates to be included into the current Liquid template (eg. similar to render(:file => "filename") - How difficult would it be to add

I need untyped associations
I am in the process of trying to migrate to ROR from a home grown ORM, but one stumbling block is ActiveRecord''s typed associations and object ID assignment scheme. In the home grown system, I have a master table which *all* objects are packed into and a master associative table which holds *all* associations. This allows each object, regardless of type, to have a unique ID and thus it

Should controllers be "smart"?
I''m working on a small project with a friend, and one of the things we needed to do was send off an email whenever someone signs up an account. His implementation was pretty simple - throw a deliver_welcome call inside the controller after the signup. I''m sure that this is a pretty common thing to do. The problem, in my mind, was that the app now became tied to two places -

How to do IN(?) query?
I''m trying to do an IN query, where I have an array of user objects imaginatively named ''users'': :conditions=>["user_id IN (?)", users.collect{|u| u.id }.join('','')] this ends up with: ... IN(''1,2,3'') ... Obviously I want this to be: ... IN(1,2,3) ... or even ... IN(''1'', ''2'',

[OT] Rails hosting question -- video centric
This is OT in the sense that it''s yet another hosting question and not strictly a problem I''m having with Rails. Basically, I trust and appreciate the knowledge of the folks on this list so I''m hoping for some insight. I have a new project that I''ll be starting up soon. It''s basically going to feed videos. The webapp piece is trivial. I''m

sha1 or md5?
I''m building a site that requires user log-in and i have seen the Agile book using sha1 for password hashing while R-Forum uses md5. Is there any compelling argument to use one over the other? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

RSpec 0.8.2 pain, missing spec/rails?
Hi. I''m upgrading a project from an 0.8.0 pre-release gem to 0.8.2. I''ve installed the 0.8.2 gem, and the rspec_on_rails 0.8.2 plugin: ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/REL_0_8_2/rspec When I try to run my specs though, I get the below error. It''s as if the spec_helper cannot find "spec/rails". I''ve noticed that

Invoking Rails from an API
Hi, I am trying to use ruby int an embedded web server. The environment does not have the luxury of CGI or WebBrick. I find limited documentation on how to get this to work. As a test program on windows, I tried the code in the section below. I have the issues. 1. Is public/dispatch.rb the right script to invoke a rails app? If so, what is the right way to invoke dispatch.rb? 2.

RoR admin system
I''m preety new at RoR (and programming), I tried a few tutorials, and really like the RoR simplicity, but my knowledge of the framework still isn''t very good (to be true, i understand the basics, but not everything that''s in the tutorials). But still I''d like to create a website which has: - front end interface (with no edit functions) - admin interface

RANT: belongs_to -> refers_to
Every once in a while, I pipe up and whine that "belongs_to" should really be ''refers_to" [http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/2130]. It''s time again. I''ve got a bunch of stuff going onto eBay, so, like any good engineer, I don''t just post it manually: I design a Rails-based inventory database that creates a semantically-correct XHTML/CSS auction

Navigating Rails Projects
I''m finding my larger rails project increasing difficult to navigate. Model,. controller, view, and helpers being seperated, as well as there being so many small fragments, it can be awkward to find a partial on a complex page, and awkard to move among all the compents that need to be touched for a non-trivial change. Just wondering if anyone had any tips regarding this. Thanks, Nick --

AR: Quoting in Join Model Test
Greetings made men of rails! I am presently writing a new database adapter for rails to bring the OpenBase community on board. In working through the rather extensive AR tests (which I very much appreciate), I have come across a question I can''t seem to answer on my own. In the test_has_many_with_piggyback(AssociationsJoinModel) the result is expected as a quoted integer

Payment Gem Error
I am learning how to use the payment gem to process credit cards. I think I have everything up and running correctly but I get this error: undefined method `use_ssl='' for #<Net::HTTP secure.authorize.net:443 open=false> Would anyone have an idea what would cause that?
