plot to postscript orientation
Hi I am trying to save some plots in a postscript file. When I generate the plots in the main window, they appear correctly - their orientation is landscape (i.e., horizontal). However, when I open the .ps file with GSview, the whole page appears vertically, and the plot appears horizontally, which means that the plot is only partially visible (example here

Dell OpenManage
Hi Everyone, I have a Xen host (Xen 3.4.2) which is running CentOS 5.5 Dom0. I wish to install Dell OpenManage to get a nice web interface with hardware status. Do I need to do anything special to get this working on a Xen host? Or does it work out of the box? The reason why I''m asking, instead of trying, is that my server is currently on its way to a colo, and I won''t have

Dropbox on CentOS 6?
Hi, I just spent a couple of unnerving hours trying to make Dropbox work on CentOS 6.6. Is there a way that 1. Actually works? 2. Doesn't include jumping through burning loops? Need firewalld clue
I don't really understand the intent behind firewalld. The RHEL7 Security Guide states "A graphical configuration tool, *firewall-config*, is used to configure firewalld, which in turn uses *iptables tool* to communicate with *Netfilter* in the kernel which implements packet filtering". So is the goal for firewalld to implement a GUI for iptables? What is the "value added"

NFS, deleting folder issue
Hi there, I use dovecot on a server with some Nightmare File Systerm (aka NFS) storage. When I delete a folder, its content gets deleted, but the folder itself does not. Here's what I found: #### Step 1: From a shell, telnet to imap, then create a folder cpetrescu at cpetrescu-mobile:~$ telnet server1.localdomain 143 Trying 10.200.28.36... Connected to server1.localdomain. Escape

HPLIP vs. CentOS
Hi, Our local school has recently acquired an HP PageWide Pro 477 professional printer. According to HP, the printer requires HPLIP 3.16.3 at least. Unfortunately, CentOS is only shipping HPLIP 3.15.9. So I downloaded and installed the hplip/hplipfull package from the HP site. Installing this thing and getting it to work is not exactly a trivial task, as I documented in my blog:

help with rchk warnings on Rf_eval(Rf_lang2(...))
Dear r-devel folks, [if this is more appropriate for r-pkg-devel please let me know and I'll repost it over there ...] I'm writing to ask for help with some R/C++ integration idioms that are used in a package I'm maintaining, that are unfamilar to me, and that are now being flagged as problematic by Tomas Kalibera's 'rchk' machinery (https://github.com/kalibera/rchk);

beginner's guide to C++ programming with R packages?
Hello, again. I'm interested to learn how programmers develop & test C/C++ code with R packages in Linux. I've been reading R source and the manual on Writing R Extensions but there are just a couple of details I can't understand. I wish I could watch over a developer's shoulder to see how people actually do this. I've tested a bit. I am able to take package.tar.gz

Director questions
In playing with dovecot director, a couple of things came up, one related to the other: 1) Is there an effective maximum of directors that shouldn't be exceeded? That is, even if technically possible, that I shouldn't go over? Since we're 100% NFS, we've scaled servers horizontally quite a bit. At this point, we've got servers operating as MTAs, servers doing IMAP/POP

install packages question
I am at a new job where my sys admin installed R in linux and it does run when I log in as a user. I am on linux 2.1.2 but i'm not sure if it''s redhat etc ( but i doubt this matters for my question ). The alias put in my .envfile ( for the kshell ) is R = "/ms/dev/fsf/R/2.0.0/install/.exec/ia32.linux.2.4.lib6/lib/R/bin/exec/R" and my R_HOME is

Improving data processing efficiency
Hi everyone! I have a question about data processing efficiency. My data are as follows: I have a data set on quarterly institutional ownership of equities; some of them have had recent IPOs, some have not (I have a binary flag set). The total dataset size is 700k+ rows. My goal is this: For every quarter since issue for each IPO, I need to find a "matched" firm in the same

WAR file installation
Hi Friends, Currently i am using R-2.9.1. I am new to R and i am in learning stage. Can any one tell me whether R allows WAR file installation? Other concerns i have are: 1. Does R allows WAR file installation? 2. Does R has a web server or application server concept? 3. Can we create login credentials in R? Kindly clarify these things... Thanks, that's really useful.
