Date/Time Quick Add
I am building a small app that reuires some clever text pattern
matching...
In my controller, I''ll have a string that I will want to parse out to a
datetime and a message, a la Google Calendar Quick Add.
Examples:
10/30/2006 7pm message
10-30-96 7:00 pm message
10/30/2006 19:00pm message
...
You see what I''m getting at. For a v1.0 release, I CAN publish some

Date calender instead of selectboxes like in Django
Hi,
please have a look at
http://www2.jeffcroft.com/2006/may/02/django-non-programmers/
especially the screenshot in the middle with the Calender. Instead of
3 selectfields with day, month, year I find this one much more
userfriendly, also having yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Are there plugins for this? I know

php-sites, and

Timezone support?
This is a follow-up to the thread ending with:
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/vpim-talk/2008/000120.html
I too am in search of some ruby parser for icalendar which properly handles
timezones on the datetimes in the icalendar RFC.
As I understand it there are actually three types of times.
1) UTC times with a string form of yyyymmddThhmmssZ
note the trailing Z indicates zulu time aka utc.
2)

What are people using for date fields
I''m just curious about what techniques others have successfully used to
capture date data on forms as an alternative to the standard date_select. I
have to admit I''ve been lazy and only used the date_select as we have very
few dates in our system now, but that is about to change. I would like
something better.
Any thoughts?

All Day Events
I must be stupid because this cannot be this hard.
I''m trying to build an all day calendar event. In most clients it shows up as an entry at the top of the day rather than blocking out the whole day with an event.
I have a bit of code that looks like this...
cal.event do
dtstart DateTime.parse("#{startDate.year()}-#{startDate.month()}-#{startDate.day()}")
dtend

Hi, I have the following function:

comment.char = "#", as.is = TRUE, stringsAsFactors = FALSE, na.strings =

Display a calendar helper
Before I starting writing a helper to display a calendar I wondered if
anyone was aware of a calendar helper, basically something that is
displayed inline (not a pop-up window) that can replace a date_select.
The way I am thinking of doing it is to have a partial which is passed a
Time class, the month is extracted from the date and a grid displayed
for that month. Which should not be to

Oracle Date type errors rails on edit
I have a table with "expires_on" a DATE field.

integration of tzinfo with icalendar
My interest in icalendar is more on the ical generation side instead of
the ical parsing side. As such, I did a bit of work on a tzinfo mixin
that will generate the timezone rules based on the tzinfo gem. This
lets you do the following:
estart = DateTime.new(2008, 12, 29, 8, 0, 0)
eend = DateTime.new(2008, 12, 29, 11, 0, 0)
tstring = "America/Chicago"
tz =

CalendarCtrl.date not working?
I finally got my CheckListBoxes under control (thanks Alex& Phil) and
have moved on to tackling the CalendatCtrl. This one seemed pretty easy
when I was reading through the documentation but I cannot retrieve the
selected date. I have the following code:
def initialize...
...
@calendar = panel.add(Wx::CalendarCtrl[])
panel.add(Wx::Button[:label => ''test'']) do

Getting the datetime when using Calendar Date Select plugin in an Ajax update operation.
Hey,everyone,
I encountered a problem when getting a date through calendar date
select plugin. It''s convenient to put the very
tag(calendar_date_select_tag) in a form, then get the date when the
form is submitted, however, if I don''t put the
calendar_date_select_tag in a form, and just use it as an element
which can show a calendar on the page, now I wanna update a specific
area

Strategy for handling historical dates while avoiding timezones
Currently using t.datetime, dates get stored with a timezone and a non-
zero time. This is bad.
A date restricted to the Unix epoch is unacceptable. The date range
must be at least back to 1800.
Need a recommendation on what SQL column type, Rails column type and
Ruby object type would be the best choice, and how to avoid timezones.

wxruby-swig 0.0.9
More progress on wxruby-swig. Nothing too exciting.
It now support 36 classes, compared to the (apparently) 139 supported by
wxRuby 0.3. A working version of the calendar sample is included. I made
several changes to the sample.
I have tentatively decided *not* to wrap the wxDateTime class, and
instead to automatically convert to/from Ruby''s own DateTime class.
My logic is that in

where do I report this DateTime bug?
I have isolated what appears to be a bug in the Rails extensions to
DateTime, but I don''t know where to report it.
I have a standalone file to demonstrate the bug, but the punch line is
that this code:
TestRecord.create!(:f_datetime => (expected = DateTime.jd(2000000)))
found = TestRecord.first.f_datetime
puts("expected == found => #{expected == found}")

ActiveRecord with different Date/Time format
I have an application where user sets his/her preferred date/time
format. User is expected to enter datetime in his preferred format
across the application. Now the problem is for few formats the datetime
is parsed wrongly while create/update ActiveRecord.
For example user has set date/time format in hh:mm dd/MM/yyyy. Now if
user enters 17:00 04/05/2012 it parses it as 5 PM 5 Apr, 2012 where it

Date and Time validator, updater
Can someone point me to a date/time validator or updater.
I have an event start datetime and an event end datetime. I want
to validate that the end datetime is after the start datetime.
Figure there is some code or library out there already, if you
know one, please forward it.
Thank you!

lubridate:ymd_hm and coercion of class POSIXct. Smooth way to restore the date format.
Dear all,
I wish to create a POSIXct variable from date and time variables using the ymd_hm function in package lubridate. In some cases data for time is missing, which causes a problem for ymd_hm. I wish to find a smooth way to handle this.
# Some example data:
x <- data.frame(date = c("2011-09-22", "2011-07-28"), time = c("15:00", NA))

noob question: rhtml new/edit views and the date functionality
Hello All,
I''ve been playing with Rails - did the recipe/category sample from
onLamp.com - fairly straight forward - even got it working against
postgres.
Anyway, I''ve been appling rails to a small test project and I can''t
seem to get the syntax down or find a sample of how to use the date
control on a custom new/edit view. The CRUD (is that right?) that

Popup Calendar and DateBoxEngine and Change Made ...
Community,
I have been putting off implementing a Date selector for too long.
Tonight, I finally put it in. I made the choice to go with the datebox
engine.
Once I got it installed and working, I realized I didn''t like the way it
required you to call it. Example:
<% @dateField = model.date %>
<%= date_box %>
or...
<% @dateField1 = model.date %>
<%=

Processing calendar dates with R
I am a beginner in R with a background in SAS.
Are there built-in R methods of reading dates for calculating elapsed days
between two calendar dates? If so, are there any examples I can browse?
Thanks in anticipation.
