samba won't give up root
Hi, I'm using the latest version of Samba in (kind-of) an embedded
environment, which means 'glibc, but no shadow/pam/md5'
my problem is is that samba doesn't give up root priviledges. I connect as
an unpriviliged user, but the smbd associated with the connection is still
associated with root. Has anyone had this problem? It's very undesirable,
as all the access controls are

authenticate authenticated users
Hi
I'm using dovecot on a LAN server. I sometimes read mail from the server
itself locally with mutt and sometimes remotely with mutt or mozilla .
I would like to avoid typing my password whenever necessary but without
writing a plain-text equivalent copy of it locally.
It feels quite silly to have to type the password locally becase the
imapd does not know that the process is indeed a

Multiple Ethernet Cards: Ignoring one of them
Hello,
I have recently had 'Broadband' (Cable) Internet installed in my house
and I have setup the my Linux PC to do Network Address Translation for
my Windows PC. This system has worked well with the PPP modem, and I
know that a full Proxy server would be better, but at the moment I
haven't got the time to set one up etc.
This setup worked fine:

[Q]Are Intel''s ICH9 chipsets supported by xen-3.2?
Hi All,
I found it very difficult to get Xen-3.1 up on a a machine with
Intel''s ICH9 family of disk controllers :-(.
Is the ICH9 support really there in xen-3.2 ?
I tried but was not successful in booting even xen-3.2 from xen.org.
Did anyone have a success? Or any help on what extra config options I
need to pass while compiling a domain0 from xen sources?
Thanks,

[RFI]Is NAT broken with Linux HVM guests?
Hi All,
I tried a usual NAT setup with a Linux HVM guest.
Looks straight forward approach.
Unfortunately I cannot ping even domain0''s eth0 interface.
Xen assigns an IP address for me to vif1.0, where 1 is the domid of my
HVM guest i.e 10.0.1.128(changes are per vmid and domid).
I manually attached ip address 10.0.1.2 to eth0 in HVM domainU and add
default gateway to be 10.0.1.128.

Page tables in Xen
Hi,
I have a question about memory page tables in Xen. As far as I
understood, every modification
to page table will go through Xen(hypervisor). Is it so that all page
tables are actually allocated
in Xen(hypervisor) instead of guest OS(domain)? Also, is it the case
that Xen(hypervisor) needs to
maintain a page table for each process running in every domain?
Thanks

xenwatch: page allocation failure: order:4, mode:0x10c0d0 xen_netback:xenvif_alloc: Could not allocate netdev for vif16.0
Hi Wei,
I ran into the following problem when trying to boot another guest after less than a day of uptime.
(the system started 15 guests at boot already which went fine). dom0 is allocated a fixed 1536M.
Both host as pv guests run the same kernel, some hvm''s run a slightly older kernel (3.9 f.e.)
The are quite some granttable messages in xl dmesg, i also included these and a

I want to know any difference between writing, reading and shadow page

I''m investigating your suggestion with a quick experiment. I put a hack
into ptwr_do_page_fault(), which is one place where the pte address is
available. The hack

Hi,
I have a samba server setup as a domain member. I am trying to grant
SeDiskOperatorPrivilege to some user accounts e.g. "domainaname\User",
but I always get the above error. It doesnot matter what I specify as
the server in -S option to the command. The command syntax I use is:

Failed to grant privileges for testpc1 (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)
samba_source_3.3.7 on redhat 5 64bit. I have root on the samba server
but I don't have admin access to active directory (hence the auth using

Does the user granting access need some sort of admin privilege in
Active Directory? How do
