Align periodic vpts to reduce timer interrupts and save power
Hi, After c/s 18694 changed vHPET to vpt, for single HVM RHEL 5u1 guest idle case, our box will consume ~0.8W more power than before. The reason is two periodical vpts'' expires are hard to be aligned in the 50us soft timer SLOP. So we are considering a vpt specific enhancement which could try to just align periodical timers within vpt. A generic enhancement is to add a new interface

[PATCH][VT] Multithread IDE device model ( was: RE: [PATCH]Make IDE dma tranfer run in another thread inqemu)
Keir: This is to to make the IDE device model multithreading so that the VMX domain IO access completion (triggering DMA operation) can be asynchronize with the completion of DMA operation. With this patch we get 8%--14% performance gain for kernel build. Thanks, eddie Yang, Xiaowei wrote: > Originally in qemu when a IDE dma transfer is started which is > triggered by access to 0xc000

[Patch] Fix cirrus and rt8139 co-exist issue
Keir, This patch fixes cirrus and rt8139 co-exist issue in new qemu-dm. The root cause is that if two MMIO spaces are continuous, qemu may misuse last MMIO space''s read/write to handle current request. [PATCH] the ac->ac_allow_chain_relink=0 won't disable group relink
From: "Xiaowei.Hu" <xiaowei.hu at oracle.com> ocfs2_block_group_alloc_discontig() disables chain relink by setting ac->ac_allow_chain_relink = 0 because it grabs clusters from multiple cluster groups. It doesn't keep the credits for all chain relink, but ocfs2_claim_suballoc_bits overrides this in this call trace:

print.trellis(..., draw.in=...)
A year ago I had posted this code https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2005-June/033508.html and the associated discussion was that there would be a print.trellis argument that could be used to eliminate the need for with.vpPath or with.viewport there. I assume that that is what draw.in= in print.trellis is for. When I try it I get an error. I did notice that ?print.trellis says draw.in=

aligning column of xyplots and removing space between them
The code below displays three graphs in three rows and one column but: 1. I want to remove the space between the graphs (I tried playing with position= arg to print.trellis but it seems quite difficult to get the right values and all my attempts had space between them or had overlapping graphs. Is there a better way to do this? 2. the widths of the plots are not the same even though I specified

Big Bug:Time in VM running on xen goes slower
Dear all: I have found a big bug on xen concerning time virtualization. Please let me show you the whole process: 1 Phenomenon when I run a JVM based program in IE browser in my Virtual Machine, I have found clearly that time at the right bottom corner in my VM gets more slower and slower. I studied the bug deeply, and found something below. 2 Xen vmx_vmexit_handler --> ......... -->

xenoprof passive profiling and "mode" setting
Xiaowei, I''m puzzled by the following bit of code in p4_check_ctrs():        if (guest_kernel_mode(current, regs))                 mode = 1;         else if (ring_0(regs))                 mode = 2; If I look at the definition for guest_kernel_mode() it is: include/asm-x86/x86_64/regs.h: #define guest_kernel_mode(v, r)   \     (ring_3(r) && ((v)->arch.flags &

[PATCH] Xenoprof passive domain support
Hi Renato, This patch is to add Xenoprof passive domain support in SMP environment. Basically: - It allocates per vcpu buffers for passive domain and maps them into primary domain''s space. - When primary domain gets sampled and triggers virq, its kernel module will handle passive domain'' samples besides its owns. There is potential buffer overflow if passive is very busy while

Stubdom and blktap
Recently we had a try of stubdom, whose general status is good. One issue we found is with aio/sync blktap as backend, disk performance is obviously slower, and there are some IDE kernel error messages (like irq timeout) at boot time. Another issue (not stubdom specific) comes from blktap''s support for QCOW image which is based on a backing file. We never tried this configure

[PATCH, v2] qemu/xendisk: properly update stats in ioreq_release()

[PATCH] x86/hvm: fix corrupt ACPI PM-Timer during live migration
The value of ACPI PM-Timer may be broken on save unless the timer mode is delay_for_missed_ticks. With other timer modes, vcpu->arch.hvm_vcpu.guest_time is always zero and the adjustment from its value is wrong. This patch fixes the saved value of ACPI PM-Timer: - don''t adjust the PM-Timer if vcpu->arch.hvm_vcpu.guest_time is zero. - consolidate calculations of PM-Timer to one

late lapic timer interrupts for hvm guest
Hi, When using lapic as timer source the hypervisor delivers timer interrupts late. In the source xen/arch/x86/hvm/vpt.c function create_periodic_time creates a timer element with a "bonus" of 50% of the desired time until the interrupt: pt->scheduled = NOW() + period; /* * Offset LAPIC ticks from other timer ticks. Otherwise guests which use * LAPIC ticks for

[PATCH] patch to buffer write ioreq
This patch implements a new mechanism to buffer the MMIO_WRITE and PIO_WRITE packet in a queue, and then submit them to qemu-dm in batch. This could save a lot of domain switch time. We implement this as a generic one to do ioreq in batch. However, we only use it to batch the MMIO_WIRTE request for stdvga(0xA0000-0xC0000) in order to solve the win2k boot issue for hvm domain. Without this patch,
