Kernel types and xen caps : PV/HVM, 32/64 bit, PAE/non-PAE
Hi Is there a doc/wiki page which explains, the kind of domu images/appliances/kernels can be run with what type of dom0 kernels(xen_caps). For example : -- Can a 32 bit, non-PAE domU run on 64 bit, PAE dom 0 in PV mode ? (or HVM mode ?) Are there any checks that can be done before doing the migration ? Is there any programmatic way (from python) to find out if the kernel in a domU disk

PAE or use 64-bit?
Hi all, Which would you recommend for a 4GB+ machine? A 32-bit install with PAE-enabled kernel or just use 64-bit? Regards, Matt -- Stand before it and there is no beginning. Follow it and there is no end. Stay with the ancient Tao, Move with the present.

[PATCH] HVM x86_32 PAE guest support on 64-bit Xen
The patch enables x86_32 PAE unmodified guests on 64-bit Xen when the hvm feature is present. We tested only Linux at this point, and we''ll improve the functionality as we test other guests. The SVM needs the equivalent changes to the vmc.c to get this functionality working, but this patch does not break the build. Signed-off-by: Jun Nakajima <jun.nakajima@intel.com>

Why not use a 64-bit kernel with such a large machine? Do you have the config used to build that kernel? I'm

[PATCH] Fix PAE shadow on a machine with RAM above 4G on x86_64 xen
Fix PAE shadow on a machine with RAM above 4G on x86_64 xen. Currently, on a machine with RAM above 4G, we can not run 32bit VMX guest on x86_64 xen, the root cause is that the PAE page table PDPT must below 4G, this patch fixes this issue. Also did some cleanup. Signed-off-by: Xin Li <xin.b.li@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jun Nakajima <jun.nakajima@intel.com>

Only 2.5G of RAM available then syslinux64.efi boots 32-bit linux 686-pae
Hello, I'm booting linux-3.16-686-pae kernel (32-bit) via syslinux.efi 64-bit version. After boot linux sees only 2.5G of RAM while system has 32G installed. If I boot the same kernel with GRUB64 efi instead of syslinux then amount of RAM available to linux is 32G. CentOS5 + 2.6.32.15 PVOPS x86_32 PAE/xen 4rc6 stalls at boot
Hi, It appears my Xen is stalling right before handing off control to the dom0 kernel. I would appreciate any pointers on where to look next, since I''ve already spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure this one out and nothing turns up. One small detail, with my previous .config, I wasn''t seeing the 4 "(XEN) MCE: MSR 417 is not MCA MSR" at the end of the

I thought this might be of interest to the list. I am only running Xen on amd64, so I am not sure how intelligently I can help out. CentOS 5.2 (x86_64) : 64 bit HVM VM fails.
hi I am trying to do an installation of 64 bit HVM from a CDROM, the Dom0 is 64 bit. I am getting "pae not supported" !! (as a side note, failure on RHEL 5.2 is different 'long not supported on your cpu, use a 32-bit version' .. cpu is 64 bit AMD and so is Dom0) Do I need to tweak anything ? Thanks /Jd

PAE broken
I ran into a problem with the PAE version of the hypervisor. I'm looking at xen-hypervisor-3.0-i386-pae_3.0.2+hg9611-1_i386.deb from alioth, and I ran into a problem with PAE being disabled in the binary: $ zcat xen-3.0-i386-pae.gz | strings | grep PAE PAE=yes PAE disabled. PAE mode mismatch between Xen and DOM0 (xen=%s, dom0=%s) It should look like: PAE=yes PAE enabled, limit: %d GB PAE

Xen 3.3.1 - not able to disable PAE
Hello, I am compiling xen 3.3.1 with linux 2.6.18.8 as domain 0. I am able to compile this successfully on a PAE enabled TOSHIBA machine (However having problems with loading graphics drivers but able to boot with runlevel 3). But since the graphics problem could be because of non standard hardware that comes with Toshiba laptop, I tried compiling the same on an IBM laptop . This system does not
