Finding real cpuinfo and meminfo
I have to collect cpuinfo and meminfo from hundreds of machines in preparation of updating our inventory and Xen version. Since we pin cpu and ram for dom0, this mangles the info. Is there way to get the real information? I know that xm top will give me the true RAM, but I need a non-interactive method. Specifically, I need the following real, unobfuscated/hidden info: Total RAM Processor (from

VT 64bit kernel with >4Gb RAM
Hi there, I have the lucky task to setup a Xen system. my plateform is a dell 2950 with 16Gb of RAM. I got as far as setting up debian sarge and xen following http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/423 and overcoming some specific difficulties (http://kmuto.jp/b.cgi/debian/d-i-2615.htm & http://wiki.ncsa.uiuc.edu/wiki/Dell_PE1950_NIC_Firmware_Workaround) But, my concern now, while

Using collectd: CPUFreq in dom0
Hello, I''ve tried to get the CPUFreq plugin of collectd running in dom0. But I mentioned that it isn''t so easy to get a file in sysfs on the rigth place. I know that the value has to come from hypervisor and I''ve seen the code in xenpm. The only value I need is "/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq" which would create cpufreq.c. Can anyone

HVM or PV
Hi All, Sorry if this is a stupid question. I am walking into someone else''s xen install, and don''t have access to the host os at the moment. How do I tell just from a domU (with Ubuntu) if it is PV or HVM. I have looked through the forums and documentation and it seems to be very easy to figure this out from dom0, but unfortunately that isn''t possible at the

dom0 unable to launch domU
Hi, I have a problem with a dom0 which is unable to launch my domU : all my dom0 are Debian Lenny amd64 with Debian kernel 2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 and xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64. Then all domU (PV) are Debian Lenny amd64 too, with vanilla kernel 2.6.29.6. So, this new dom0 can''t launch any domU which are working on an other dom0. Software is same on both dom0, and hardware is near the

how mem-set / balloon changes totalram_pages
Hi, I find that after I use xm mem-set to change the current memory allocation of a dom, the MemTotal in /proc/meminfo will give the current allocation. In my understanding, the balloon driver simply alloc / free pages, so the MemTotal should not be changed. Only the free memory will be affected. In normal linux, the value of MemTotal comes from "totalram_pages" defined in

Re: My domU cpuinfo shows "cache seize: 16KB" ater upgrading to Xen-3.3.0... but in Xen-3.2 it has 2048KB!
No one knows about this?! It''s normal for domU in Xen-3.3 to have only 16KB of CPU cache size? Thanks! Is it possible to make hypercall from user application directly?
Hi, I implemented my own Hypercall in xen. Now I wish my application under dom0 could talk to Xen via my hypercall. Currently, I make a stub in dom0''s kernel, which works as a proxy to forward the request. So, my application first makes a system call to dom0, which then makes hypercall to xen. Is this design necessary? May I call hypercalls from user application under dom0 directly?

Processor architecture
Hi, How could i know the processor architecture whether this is x86 or x86_64 ? arch returns the architecture of the OS installed on the machine. But what happened when i installed x86 dom0 on x86_64 machine, then arch and #uname -a as well as #xm info all shows. x86, but really the machine is x86_64. Could anybody tell me how i can get the system information that this is x86_64 machine. Is

Powernow-k8 support
Hi, I recently subscribed to xen-users asking about a powernow-k8 problem, but in the meantime I am not sure if the users-list was the right place for it. So I decided to repeat my question here ;-) My current config is attached. --- snip --- Hi, I recently installed Xen on my AMD64 for my first time and so far, everything seems to work pretty fine. :-) I tried to enable cpu frequency

Unindent ERB output
Hi all, I''d like to unindent a block of ERB specifically to combat the extra spacing being added to content inside <textarea> by the browser. Is there such a feature in ERB? I shall denote indentation with underscores in the pseudo code example below. Thanks in advance, Khoan. myview.erb: <html ...> __<%= render ''form'' %> </html>

POD: soft lockups in dom0 kernel
Hi, when creating a bigger (> 50 GB) HVM guest with maxmem > memory we get softlockups from time to time. kernel: [ 802.084335] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 22s! [xend:31351] I tracked this down to the call of xc_domain_set_pod_target() and further p2m_pod_set_mem_target(). Unfortunately I can this check only with xen-4.2.2 as I don''t have a machine with enough memory for

can dom0 modify Shadow PT of HVM domU?
Hi all, Can Xen hypervisor modify HVM domU's Shadow page table, under the dom0's context, like trapped from dom0's hypercall? I think it have to call 2 functions at least: guest_walk_tables() and flush_tlb_all(). Can these 2 functions called in dom0's context? In my test, if hypervisor tries to modify HVM's shadow page table, it will bring down the whole system. I am not

how to enable VT
Hi, I have a Dell opt 755 machine and installed Xen 3.3.1. The CPU is core 2 due E6550, which as the vmx flag. However, when I reboot the machine to xen 3.3.1. I can not find vmx in the /proc/cpuinfo. But vms appears in the kernel 2.6.29 (not xen kernel). Can anyone help on how to enable vt in this machine? Thanks.
