New package `party': A Laboratory for Recursive Part(y)itioning
Dear useRs, a new package for tree-structured regression is available on CRAN. This package implements a unified framework for recursive partitioning which embeds tree-structured regression models into a well defined theory of conditional inference procedures. Stopping criteria based on multiple test procedures are implemented. The methodology is applicable to all kinds of regression problems,

coin package (conditional inference / permutation): parameter teststat
Dear R-list members, This is in fact a question about statistics, not directly about the R software. The coin package, for conditional inference through permutation methods, has as it main function the function independence_test. One of its parameters is teststat, about which the package documentation says: teststat: "a character, the type of test statistic to be applied: either a

Jonckheere-Terpstra test using coin package?
Is it possible to implement the Jonckheere-Terpstra test for ordered alternatives using the coin package: Conditional Inference Procedures in a Permutation Test Framework? I found jonckheere.test{clinfun}, but it uses a normal approximation when ties are present in the data. To make this concrete, I've include a small dataset. New version of `multcomp' on CRAN
Dear useRs, `multcomp' version 0.991-1 will be shortly available from CRAN near you. Nearly all functionality contained in the package has been re-implemented from scratch. The focus of the package has been extended to general linear hypotheses in arbitrary parametric models and the most important function to check out is `glht()'. Multiple comparison of means procedures (for example

Exact wilcoxon may differ in R and SPSS/StatXact (due to round off in the latter pair)
Dear R-users, If you use the exact Wilcoxon test in the coin package, I would like make you aware of that SPSS/StatXact MAY perform a round-off before doing their exact Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test (if you ever are unlucky enough not to use R). I have data from two treatments and was surprised to find that SPSS (15 under Windows) and R differed in their p-values (0.167 resp. 0.172). It turns out

Unexpected results using the oneway_test in the coin package
Dear fellow R users, Keywords: Kruskal-Wallis, Post-Hoc, pair-wise comparisons, Nemenyi-Damico-Wolfe-Dunn test, coin package, oneway_test I am using the "oneway_test" function in the R package "coin" and I am obtaining results which I cannot believe are accurate. I do not wish to waste anyone's time and so if the following problem is rather trivial, I apologize, however I

A naive question about permutation tests in the coin package
Dear R helpers, I am trying to understand how to use the independence_test function in the coin package. I think I suffer from a misunderstanding about what the package does. Either that or I do not understand how to use it properly. Specifically, I cannot understand if I can test independence of arbitrary statistics. Take the following example: set.seed(10) d <- data.frame(y = c(rnorm(10,

error using lapply with oneway_test (coin package)
Dear expeRts, I would like to use a oneway_test (from package coin) to test whether two groups differ on various variables. The variables are encoded within a data frame. Unfortunately, I obtained an error, that I don't understand. Could you please help me ? Example: library(coin) y <- as.data.frame(matrix(rnorm(200), ncol=2)) group <- as.factor(unif(100)) lapply(y,

Permutation Test on Interactions {coin}
Dear List, I'm interested in performing a permutation test on the interaction between a binary treatment indicator and a covariate (either continuous or categorical). I'm interested in the p-value of the interaction effect from a permutation test, and I'm using the coin package for that purpose. As I haven't seen any examples like this in the package documentation (or anywhere

S3 generics without NS and cleanEx()
Good morning, we recently observed a problem with importing S3 generics from a foreign package (without namespace), defining a S3 method in a package _with_ namespace and the `cleanEx()' function which is automatically generated and executed before examples are run by R CMD check. To be more precise. Package `strucchange' defines a S3 generic sctest <- function(x, ...)

Segfault: .Call and classes with logical slots
Hi, the following example aiming at a class containing a logical slot segfaults under R-1.9.0 when `gctorture(on = TRUE)' is used: Code code (dummy.c): #include <Rdefines.h> SEXP foo() { SEXP ans; PROTECT(ans = NEW_OBJECT(MAKE_CLASS("test"))); SET_SLOT(ans, install("lgl"), allocVector(LGLSXP, 1)); LOGICAL(GET_SLOT(ans,

Question about package coin
Anyone know if coin can run a permutation test based on a (user-defined) statistic other than the mean difference? The function independence_test does the permutation t-test via difference in means. I'm wondering if it's possible to use independence_test to run a permutation test for some other statistic than the difference in means. For example, I'd like to run a permutation test
