How to purchase R on CD
My organization has a policy against "installing software downloaded from
the Internet." There is a waiver procedure, but it is difficult and
lengthy. It is much easier to get approval to purchase software, even if
it is a CD copy of open-source.
However, a search on r-project.org didn't seem to show any way of obtaining
the distribution in this way.

Well, even if you do have a lot of Morton Feldman (currently my record

Audio CDs not detected by winecfg, and dbpoweramp CD Ripper
Hi !
Audio CDs seem to be invisible to winecfg. I want to use dbpowerramp CD Ripper under Linux using WINE. CD Ripper doesn't see audio CDs, too.
I am using WINE 1.3.33, Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. Ubuntu itself correctly identifies the CD drives, and the Audio CDs. The CD-Rom-Drives are internal ATAPI drives, and external Plextor drives connected via firewire. If I put _data_ CDs into those drives

How to create a CD/DVD
Hi!
Assuming I have all the files (basically I've downloaded the ISOs) of
CentOS 4 (RC1 for now, but 4.0 in the future) how do I recreate the ISO
images - both to regain the original 4 CDs (less important) - and to
achieve a DVD image (more important but can probably be guessed from the
answer to how to make the CDs). Any takers? [note I've burned many CDs -
I'm basically

Can you explain this to me? You don't actually lose the audio data, right,
just the structure of the CD (which can probably be captured with cue
files anyway)? I've ripped CDs with pregap audio before, and I'm pretty
sure it's not getting

How do I get WINE to see a mounted disc image as a CD?
I prefer to run games that require CDs from image files, since it is faster and protects the life of my CDs. In windows, I would just mount the disc image and I could then play. But using Wine and Ubuntu, it appears to work differently.
When installing a Windows CD using WINE under Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, how should I go about mounting a disc image so it is seen by games running under WINE as a CD?

How to change CD drive?
I have to install SLES9.3 distributive which is of 9 CDs as HVM domU.
Having their ISO images ready, I hardly found a document describing the exact procedure of changing virtual CDs when installing the OS:

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
Hey FLAC gang -
Just thought you'd like to know CD Baby has switched to FLAC for archiving the 40,000 CDs we have in stock.
Luckily HD space is down below $1/gig so we got a 6-terabyte RAID-5 box set up for about $7000.
Got the FreeBSD boxes churning away night and day, ripping and archiving.
I'll do a more formal press release for ya in a couple months as we're further along, but

Help with domain model/database design
Hi All,
I was wondering if I could get some comments on my approach to the
design of the domain model and database for my rails app. I don''t
have much experience in this so I am wondering if I am heading in the
right direction.
My app is an ecommerce site for my business which is a record label.
That might seem straight forward, but the one thing that might be
tricky is that

When CDs Go Bad
Hi All,
Some of the discussion recently has touched on ripping one's own CDs
for archival purposes. I've consistantly rejected the idea of doing
this in my case for space and time reasons, and in the belief that
commercially produced CDs when properly treated can be expected to have
a very long life. However, I'm now questioning this assumption.
I have a 2 CD set of "The

Surely it would be possible to have something apply the ReplayGain to
the WAV after decoding and prior to writing them to CD... but I don't
know

Actually, I was more interested in how you set up the disk array. The
biggest one I'd set up was a while back, when 60

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
As for the storage, I recommend something like AFS, that's distributed and
network-transparent. AFS/Kerberos has a tendency to take
over the network for use as an authentication protocol, but it's both
possible to use AFS/Krb in a hetereogenous environment and a good idea to
switch to Krb5 :).
OpenAFS is quite a good product, I am finding.

Hello,
I am mirroring the debian tree using rsync. I realised following bug.
Version: 2.5.5-0.2 on Debian GNU/Linux. Rsync did not correct old symlinks.
