I'm unable to download R from any of the CRAN mirrors. A ny sugge (PR#7823)
Friedrich,
Thank you for your prompt response. Unfortunately, none of the CRAN mirrors
seem to be working for me. I'm not really sure what's going on since I was
able to download R about a year ago, but I recently got a new computer and
needed to download it again. I'll see if my support staff here at the
National Institutes of Health have any suggestions.
Thanks again,
Eric

new version of e1071 on CRAN
A new version of e1071 has been released to CRAN which should be much
easier to install on a lot of platforms because reading/writing PNM
images has been moved to the pixmap package, hence there are no longer
dependencies on external libraries and no configure mechanism.

orphaning CRAN packages
Dear R Developers,
the following CRAN packages do not cleanly pass R CMD check for quite
some time now and did not have any updates since the time
given. Several attempts by the CRAN admins to contact the package
maintainers had no success.

Mailing List Archives
The HTML Mailing List Archives at
www.R-project.org
should now get online updates, i.e., each mail is integrated into the
archives directly after it has been sent to the list. Hence, searching
in the subjects of mails can easily be done using your web browser's
search function.
A more powerful search engine (which also searches the bodies of the
emails) will hopefully be added soon.

R News: Call for Papers
R News (see http://CRAN.R-project.org/doc/Rnews/) is running low on
submissions lately. If you are the author of a package on CRAN or
Bioconductor and want to attract a larger audience to your software,
you should consider writing a short article introducing the
package. Another "typical" kind of R News article is to describe a

Hi,
Evgenia and I have copied an updated version of the mlbench package to

Submission format for R Newsletter
Hi,
Sorry for responding so late, but I've been in meetings all day
long. The decision to ask for latex articles was deliberate, because
I've to deal with MS-Word files from time to time and know of no clean
way of converting it to Latex without a lot of manual intervention
(and the newsletter itself will be produced in latex).
We will make a template for articles available together with

R-beta: CRAN goes HTML
Hi all,
thanks help by Thomas Lumley (who provided us also with a beautiful
logo!) I've finally made a start for an html frontend for CRAN. It
should be available on all mirror sites tomorrow.
The master site is at
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R
and the usual mirror sites are
http://www.stat.unipg.it/pub/stat/statlib/R/CRAN/ (IASC archive, Italy)

R-beta: New Package bindata at CRAN
I have put the new package bindata to CRAN, which provides a method
for creating binary (i.e., 0-1-valued) random variables with
correlation structures by converting multivariate random variables to
binary variables.
The package includes a postscript file of a technical report
describing the method, here's the abstract:
