Rails Deployment: Book recommendation?
Hello,
I''m seeking a book on rails deployment (I think a general deployment
on nix book can helps too)
I need in depth information about Apache, FastCGI, (LightTPD maybe).
I was thinking always I know what a web server is! but when I think
more deeply about it (after reading Capistrano doc) it seems I need
more info about app, web and db servers. stuff like how to config the
app server

binary info in test fixtures?
Hi all,
I have a shopping application I am testing, and one of the models is an
Order model, within which a credit card number is encrypted and stored
in the db (mysql) as a BLOB field. When trying to run my unit tests, I
cannot get my model fixtures to load the encrypted data.
If, in my dynamic fixture (YAML) file, I could have access to my app''s
models, the problem would be trivial..

Hi R folks,
I'd like to announce several new R users groups here in SF, LA, NYC,
and Ottawa - as well as their next scheduled event. The goal of these
user groups, besides gently explaining 'drop=TRUE' to the uninitiated,
is to exchange knowledge, promote best practices, and spur the
adoption of R for innovative applications. If I've missed any groups
here, please feel to add on

Users can Read but not Write / Delete Files
Hi All,
Hi All,
Here is a situation where everyone can read to, but not write to or
delete, the shares on our Samba server:
We moved the file server a few weeks ago - split off some files to a new
Windows file server - and users could read but not write files to the
old Samba server after it was renamed (SAN to OLDSAN). It turned out
SELinux was running, which I disabled, rebooted, and all

AJAX Drag and Drop Detecting Drop Coordinates
This one''s kicking me in the *(&#^. All I want to do is create a draggable
item and then detect the coordinates where it is dropped. So my first
approach was to just use the draggable_element with :revert => false, like
so:
<%= draggable_element "my_element", :revert => false %>
That works great and lets me drag stuff all over the place. In the

Groups not emulating in Samba3.0.23d-SerNet-RedHat
Hi all,
I just upgraded a test copy of my samba server from version 3.0.10E to
the latest, 3.0.23D - the RPM available for Red Hat AS4 on the samba.org
site. There was no samba-common, just samba, samba-client and
samba-winbind RPMs. I installed all three successfully. I backed up my
configs before hand and replaces / adapted them afterwards. I
successfully added this server to the domain

Reload an application without restarting the Server?
Hi, I would like to set up a "shared hosting"-like rails environment on
a linux (+Apache1.3 +FastCGI +MySQL) machine. As we all know, rails
provides support for different environments.
Now I would like to enable my "users" to switch individual applications
between development and production mode. In theory, all they have to do

UK Rates for RoR Contract work?
Hi all,
I''ve been offered a short-term contract here in the North of England -
around 3 months work, but with RoR I think it will take considerably
less time - and am just curious what market rates were right now.
I''ve been offered a little under ?1k/week which seems ''right'' for a PHP
coder doing this kind of work, but should I be hitting for more, or is
