[BioC] problem loading affycoretools (more details)
Hi again, I have been playing around with the order of loading packages, and as far as I can tell, there's nothing specific with affycoretools that's causing my Rgui to crash (i.e., shuts down and the Microsoft 'please send error report' box pops up). Instead, it has something to do with the order & type of packages that are loaded that add items to the menu bar by

Seeking friend for life (not)
I'll take a risk following Uwe's wonderful response to that advert. I'm looking for someone, perhaps particularly a stats student, who might want to do a piece of work with me on using R to present and analyse routine data that psychotherapists might submit on a cgi-bin interface and perhaps cross-referencing that against some largish referential data to which I have access.

Wine has improved a lot!
I hope I'm not wasting bandwidth with this, but I just had to compliment the developers of Wine for the work that's been done. Wine has gotten to the point now where just about anything I've thrown at it works either out of the box, or with minimal tweaking. I remember when it used to be really difficult or nearly impossible to get many applications to run with Wine, but now the

Samba without netbios/WINS
I am running samba (2.2.7a) on a solaris box on a network seperate from our windows clients. (different subnet) We have a mix of Win2k and winXP clients that are connecting to it. I recently upgraded from NT 4.0 domains to active directory on Win2K servers, and I would like to completely do away with netbios and WINS. The problem is getting clients to connect to the samba server. I have

trouble printing from graphics device in R 2.7.2
Hi, I've been using R for many years and have always tried to keep my R version up to date, and when I switched from 2.7.1 to 2.7.2 I'm suddenly having trouble printing from the graphics device. I have Windows XP, and installed both versions of R from the binaries. If I start 2.7.2 and simply do: > plot(1:10) the default R Graphics Device window opens as usual. However, when I

bug report: nlme model-fitting crashes with R 3.4.0
Dear all, I've stumbled a similar issue with the package cluster when compiling the 3.4.0 version with the settings of Fedora RPM specs. Compiling R with the default setting of configure yields a version that works for cluster... and nlme. I did not find the exact option that was the cause of this issue but I'm willing to help. change in default behavior of ?functionname in R 2.10?
Hi everyone, I just installed R 2.10 using the Windows binary. At some point in the past using the Windows binary installation, the default behavior of ?functionname changed from plain text to a nice html interface. Now with R 2.10, the default behavior has changed back to the plain text help. I assume this has some thing to do with these changes listed for R 2.10, but I don't quite

bug report: nlme model-fitting crashes with R 3.4.0
lme() and gls() models from the nlme package are all crashing with R.3.4.0. Identical code ran correctly, without error in R 3.3.3 and earlier versions. The behavior is easily demonstrated using one of the examples form the lme() help file, along with two simple variants. I have commented the errors generated by these calls, as well as the lines of code generating them, in the code example below.

problem with help.start and ?somefunction
Hi all, I am going to be teaching a workshop next week using R and Bioconductor in one of our university's computer labs. They have recently installed R 2.4.1 for me, and I'm checking all my scripts. I just noticed that using the ?somefunction call to access the documentation for that function is not working. On my own PC, the ? call output changed between R 2.3 and 2.4; before it would

Pseudo R for Quant Reg
Dear R Users, Did someone implemented the R1 (Pseudo R-2) and likelihood ratio statistics for quantile regressions, which are some of the inference procedures for quantile regression found in Koenker and Machado (1999)? I tried the Ox version, but my dataset is too large (> 50.000) and the algorith breaks. ________________________________________ Ricardo Gonçalves Silva, M. Sc. Apoio aos

prob./distr./quant./ran.num: S compatibility in argument names??
Several of R's p/d/q/r (probability/density/quantile/random.number) functions have argument names different from the ones S(-plus) uses [e.g., pf(.), rbinom(.)]. Does everyone agree that we want to become compatible here? Any volunteer for changing this in R? If you do, please give us/me a not, and please get a current snapshot of the R development version from
