put variable in session each time any controller runs?
Hi -- well, that''s what I''m trying to do. Does anyone know what the best way to do it is? I have three controllers, each one has a hidden tag, and I want each one to salt its respective tag with the name of the action in effect, at the time that action runs, for every action in the controller. -- Giles Bowkett http://www.gilesgoatboy.org

Hello, I''m having a problem utilizing the find_all method with a value from a form. [OT]Development Patterns
Hello all, I''m curious as to what development models other people/teams follow when creating web applications. My company has been using the waterfall model( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterfall_process) for quite some time now. I''m not completely conviced that it is the right process for web development. I''ve been doing web development for about 6 years now using

When I''ve been looking around for documentation I haven''t found any that quite compares to php.net''s and cppreference.com''s function references. Hi, I''ve been doing most of my initial playing with rails on a windows system - but wish to switch to a dedicated linux box for this. Are there any particular distro''s to avoid / recommend. form_remote_upload
Hey all, I just upgraded rails to 1.1.2, and form_remote_upload now prevents my application.rhtml layout from being processed. I''m not sure if the problem lies with v 1.1.2, or if upgrading the gems screwed stuff up. Anybody have any ideas? IDE recommendations?
I was wondering if there are any IDEs out there that has autocomplete features for win32. It would be perfect if it could do something akin to what DHH is doing on the screencast hosted on the rails website. http://media.rubyonrails.org/video/rails_take2_with_sound.mov Cheers -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Where to recruit Ruby on Rails developers?
Anyone have suggestions on where to recruit Ruby on Rails developers? My startup''s in Berkeley, CA and I''m looking for a talented technical lead. I''ve tried LinkedIn and Craigslist but the pickings are slim. This project provides an opportunity to use OpenLaszlo. rocky at_sign teampatent dot com -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Error in IE, works in FireFox?
Hi, I have an rjs that works just fine in firefox (no errors in FireBug). In IE however it doesn''t. When I tried to debug it, I arrived to the following: 1. page.replace of some element - fails in IE with "Object Error", even if I''m replacing the element with a simple "<tr></tr>" 2. page.hide of that same element - works 3. page.remove of that

in place edit, save on blur
I thought I''d seen some discussion on this, but can''t find it. I have a text area that I''d like to save on blur unless the user clicks cancel. Anyone got a nice example of this? It''s non-obvious to me how I force the submit via javascript. Thanks, pt. -- Parker Thompson http://www.parkert.com/ 510.541.0125

how to pass a hash as a parameter in link_to_remote
When using link_to_remote, I''d like to pass along some auxiliary data in the request. It''s a hash of dynamic data that can change with each request. But I get an error when rails trying to "stringify" the hash. For the regular link_to, it works because it turns the hash into a regular GET-like query string. I''m expecting to be able to get my hash as

Which Linux flavor for a Rails server?
Hi folks, I''m a linux noob, and I''m trying to pick a distro for my rails server. I don''t want to start a flame-war about linux distros! I''m interested in the best distribution for these criteria: 1 - Simplicity of getting ruby and rails set-up (gem updates) 2 - Stability (it is a server, after all) 3 - Support resources (community, and as a fall-back, paid

The perfect development environment?
I am trying to create the perfect development environment for rails and i dont know exactly which way to go. Do i create a windows environment or a *nix environment. If i go *nix, what distro is best suited for rails. I would be using mysql, so that would come in to play. If i go *nix, i would use apache. Any ideas for the right environment would be greatly appreciated. I guess the major choice is

controllers, models and views in plugins
Hello all, Is it possible to package controllers, models and views in a plugin? The tutorials for plugins seem rather sparse at the moment... I''ve written a form "widget" that I''ve been using as a partial that I would like to reuse in other projects. I was thinking about making a component out of it, but I need to be able to access some of the form data that it

geolocation db?
I''m currently planning a social app in Rails that relies on being able to see how far you are from everyone else. It''s my intention to store rough geo-coordinates as part of the sign up process. My intention is to capture their zipcode or postal code, and then be able to query a webservice once for that data. It''s also possible that there might be a database or even
