Agile Web Development with Rails
Hi, I''m new to Ruby, Rails and MySQL... Before Dropping my database, I went back to a previous Grant problem. On page 54, there are three create database commands...these all worked fine for me. I then tried the following Grant command: Grant all on depot_development.* to ''dave''@''localhost''; I got back the following error message: Error 1133 (42000):

RSS Feed / xml.link problem?
I''m having an odd problem. I''m trying to create an RSS feed (working off the Recipe), but "xml.link" generates error about "Can''t convert Hash to String". From the error trace, it *looks* like it''s calling the a fileutil ''link'' method (as in, filesystem symbolic link) - even xml.tag! generates this error. Er, how do I make

Might be buying a Mac
I might be buying a Mac tomorrow. I checked out the new 13.3in MacBook at the new Apple Store on 5th ave in NYC. I''m torn between the smaller MacBook and the MacBook Pro. We have a pro at work and I''m not that thrilled with the way it feels. I like the keyboard much better on the 13inch. However, I think doing development on that small of a screen could get frustrating. Any

Rails Deployment: Book recommendation?
Hello, I''m seeking a book on rails deployment (I think a general deployment on nix book can helps too) I need in depth information about Apache, FastCGI, (LightTPD maybe). I was thinking always I know what a web server is! but when I think more deeply about it (after reading Capistrano doc) it seems I need more info about app, web and db servers. stuff like how to config the app server

deploying R_o_R to local servers
Hi! I''m pretty amazed by the features of RoR so far. But, as I come from the desktop application development, my clients expect to run the magic on their domain rather on a foreign one. Also I feel uncomfortable giving away my RoR code to some hosting company, because I''m planning to do a large application. As I understand, RoR is designed to run on central web-servers and not

Subversion graphical client?
Hi All - I notice that most of the Rails team are using Mac OS X and TextMate for Ruby development. I too am working on Mac OS X and trying TextMate and (shudder?) EMacs. I was wondering about version control. Are folks using Subversion? If so, are they using a graphical client? Which one do they recommend? Yours, Jordan -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Version naming to use in a RoR proyect
Hi everyone, I would need to know if RoR follow any policy for version naming; I mean, something like linux´s kernel does or similar. For instance, kernel uses numbers separated in groups by dots (i.e. pre 2.6 - AA.BB.CC). These groups mean differents fixtures, bugs fixed... I will start a big proyect from scratch with rails and I want to choose now a standart to use and avoid future problems

Setting up TortoiseSVN and PuTTY on Windows for r-forge.r-project.org (Was: Re: Using SVN + SSH on windows)
Here are some notes/observations I've done on my setup that works for me. Hopefully it will be added to some r-forge documentation/wiki. I use: Windows Vista Business SP2 32bit TortoiseSVN 1.6.7 (Build 18415 - 32 Bit , 2010/01/22 17:55:06) PuTTY v0.60 (with Pageant v0.60) I have a deprecated r-forge project ('r-oo') that I will use through out. My r-forge username is

TextMate and Tabs
Hello Everyone ~ Recently I have been moving Rails files between Mac, Linux, and Windows. As many know the Windows Ruby version 1.8.4 doesn''t like tab characters. I know in TextMate on the mac you can replace your tabs with spaces from the Text > Convert menu, but is there a way to set it to do tabs with spaces instead as you work? The preferences do not seem to have such a

RE: Moving to Git
Since you asked for comments... Personally, I'm disappointed to see Speex moving to Git from Subversion. I had just recently learned how easy it is to track progress of Speex using TortoiseSvn. That being said, I'm sure Jean-Marc knows best what the issues may be. How many people are expected to commit on this project this year? -mjc

Using SVN + SSH on windows
Hi the list, I try to use R-Forge for developping a projet. I am using tortoise SVN (last version) but I do not manage to Commit. I read the R-Forge user Manual and some post on but I do not manage to find the solution. Here is what I did: 1/ I download 'puttygen.exe'. I generate a key (256 bits). 2/ I save the private key in a file 'private.ppk' on my computer. 3/ I

Poll: Which distro do you use for Rails/Ruby development?
Good afternoon, I''ve two quick questions for the Ruby/Rails community. 1) Do you use Linux for Ruby or Rails development? 2) If you use Linux, which distro do you normally use to develop? Thank you for your input. :-) -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Diff tool for OSX
I''ve looked for DIFF tools for OSX but haven''t found anything good yet. Tried guiffy (http://www.guiffy.com) but it''s very slow and the folder comparison doesn''t indicate a change until you drill down to the level with the difference which kinda defeats the purpose. I''m missing TortoiseSVN and the diff tool that comes with it. Any suggestions for

Which version control system to learn for managing R projects?
Hello all, I wish to learn a version control system for managing my R (data analysis) projects. I know of SVN and github, and wonder if there is any reason for which I should prefer the one over the other (or any other platform). An example for a reason could be if it will make it easier for me to later work with R-forge or CRAN or any other platform for R code distribution. Thanks, Tal

Strange error ...
I''m getting a very strange error in a very vanilla Rails app setup: compile error ./script/../config/../app/views/home/index.rhtml:1: parse error, unexpected $, expecting kEND _erbout = ''''; _erbout.concat " <div id=\"index_main\">\n" ... ? Anyone know what this might be? I installed the Login Engine and the error started. I''m using

Illegal char \002? Need to restart Rails to see changes?
Hi all, I''m developing an app on a home Windows computer and using SVN/Capistrano to deploy to a Linux server. I''m encountering some bizarre behavior that I think has something to do with Linux and Windows text file types, but I''m not sure. What''s happening is that, whenever I edit my view files and reload the page in my local browser, I see errors saying

I''m an independent software developer that spends a fair amount of time each day working on Rails-related project. t''d be really great to meet some people to chat about rails, software development, or whatever else geeky stuff via IM! If interested, shoot me an e-mail or reply here. Personally, I''m a little apprehensive about putting all my info out there on a list
