zpool import -f rpool hangs
I had the rpool with two sata disks in the miror. Solaris 10 5.10
Generic_141415-08 i86pc i386 i86pc
Unfortunately the first disk with grub loader has failed with unrecoverable
block write/read errors.
Now I have the problem to import rpool after the first disk has failed.
So I decided to do: "zpool import -f rpool" only with second disk, but it''s
hangs and the system is

I''m still trying to find a fix/workaround for the problem described in

Since the Blade 1500''s rpool is mirrored, I''ve decided to detach the

reconstruct recovery of rpool zpool and zfs file system with bad sectors
Folks I posted this question on (OpenSolaris - Help) without any replies http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=129436&tstart=0 and am re-posting here in the hope someone can help ... I have updated the wording a little too (in an attempt to clarify)
I currently use OpenSolaris on a Toshiba M10 laptop.

rpool recover not using zfs send/receive
Is it possible to recover the rpool with only a tar/star archive of the root filesystem? I have used the zfs send/receive methods and that work without a problem.
What I am trying to do is recreate the rpool and underlying zfs filesystems (rpool/ROOT, rpool/s10_uXXXXXX, rpool/dump, rpool/swap, rpool/export, and rpool/export/home). I then mount the pool at a alternate root and restore the tar

zfs allow does not work for rpool
I am trying to give a general user permissions to create zfs filesystems in the rpool.
zpool set=delegation=on rpool
zfs allow <user> create rpool
both run without any issues.
zfs allow rpool reports the user does have create permissions.
zfs create rpool/test
cannot create rpool/test : permission denied.
Can you not allow to the rpool?

Reboots when importing old rpool
I have a fresh install of Solaris 11 Express on a new SSD. I have inserted the old hard disk, and tried to import it, with:
# zpool import -f <long id number> Old_rpool
but the computer reboots. Why is that? On my old hard disk, I have 10-20 BE, starting with OpenSolaris 2009.06 and upgraded to b134 up to snv_151a. I also have a WinXP entry in GRUB.
This hard disk is partitioned, with a

Single-disk rpool with inconsistent checksums, import fails
Hello all,
I have an oi_148a PC with a single root disk, and since
recently it fails to boot - hangs after the copyright
message whenever I use any of my GRUB menu options.
Booting with an oi_148a LiveUSB I had around since
installation, I ran some zdb traversals over the rpool
and zpool import attempts. The imports fail by running
the kernel out of RAM (as recently discussed in the

Beginner Question: Limited conf: file-based storage pools vs. FSs directly on rpool
Hi, everyone!
I have a beginner''s question:
I must configure a small file server. It only has two disk drives, and they
are (forcibly) destined to be used in a mirrored, hot-spare configuration.
The OS is installed and working, and rpool is mirrored on the two disks.
The question is: I want to create some ZFS file systems for sharing them via
CIFS. But given my limited configuration:

Changing rpool device paths/drivers
Hello all,
It was often asked and discussed on the list about "how to
change rpool HDDs from AHCI to IDE mode" and back, with the
modern routine involving reconfiguration of the BIOS, bootup
from separate live media, simple import and export of the
rpool, and bootup from the rpool. The documented way is to
reinstall the OS upon HW changes. Both are inconvenient to
say the least.

Moving rpool disks
We need to move the disks comprising our mirrored rpool on a Solaris 10
U9 x86_64 (not SPARC) system.
We''ll be relocating both drives to a different controller in the same
system (should go from c1* to c0*).
We''re curious as to what the best way is to go about this? We''d love
to be able to just relocate the disks and update the system BIOS to
boot off the drives in

add device to mirror rpool in sol11exp
In my new oracle server, sol11exp, it''s using multipath device names...
Presently I have two disks attached: (I removed the other 10 disks for now,
because these device names are so confusing. This way I can focus on *just*
the OS disks.)

zfs list extentions related to pNFS
Hi,
I am soliciting input from the ZFS engineers and/or ZFS users on an
extension to "zfs list". Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Quick Background:
The pNFS project (http://opensolaris.org/os/project/nfsv41/) is adding
a new DMU object set type which is used on the pNFS data server to
store pNFS stripe DMU objects. A pNFS dataset gets created with the

Problems mounting ZFS after install
Let me thank everyone in advance. I''ve read a number of posts here and it helped tremendously in getting the install done. I have a couple of remaining issues which I can''t seem to overcome. Here are the basics:
dom0 - CentOS 5.2 32-bit
Xen 3.2.1 compiles from source
domU - os200805.iso
The install config:

SUMMARY: mounting datasets from a read-only pool with aid of tmpfs
Hello all,
I''d like to report a tricky situation and a workaround
I''ve found useful - hope this helps someone in similar
situations.
To cut the long story short, I could not properly mount
some datasets from a readonly pool, which had a non-"legacy"
mountpoint attribute value set, but the mountpoint was not
available (directory absent or not empty). In this case

Cannot Mirror RPOOL, Can''t Label Disk to SMI
Dear ZFS experts,
I have 2 SATA 500 GB Hard Drive on my Dual Core PC
I have installed OpenSolaris 2008.11 using Live CD I got from Sun Tech Days in Singapore
Now, using all the guidelines I got here at Indiana Discussion, I can''t attach my second drive to rpool to make them mirror
Initially I was playing around with similar configuration in VirtualBox, and it does not succeed. Finally

I have a 2nd hard drive in the box that I am trying to recover the ZFS

Both drives have a pool named "rpool", so I can''t import the rpool from
the 2nd drive.

What''s eating my disk space? Missing snapshots?
Please can someone take a look at the attached file which shows the output on my machine of
zfs list -r -t filesystem,snapshot -o space rpool/export/home/matt
The USEDDS figure of ~2GB is what I would expect, and is the same figure reported by the Disk Usage Analyzer. Where is the remaining 13.8GB USEDSNAP figure coming from? If I total up the list of zfs-auto snapshots it adds up to about 4.8GB,
