Reboots when importing old rpool
I have a fresh install of Solaris 11 Express on a new SSD. I have inserted the old hard disk, and tried to import it, with: # zpool import -f <long id number> Old_rpool but the computer reboots. Why is that? On my old hard disk, I have 10-20 BE, starting with OpenSolaris 2009.06 and upgraded to b134 up to snv_151a. I also have a WinXP entry in GRUB. This hard disk is partitioned, with a

Disk I/O in RAID-Z as new disks are added/removed
Hello, As I understand it, in a traditional RAID 5 setup adding new disks to the pool provides more overall I/O as the load is spread out across multiple disks. What exactly is this relationship in a RAID-Z setup? What should one expect in terms of overall I/O performance as disks are added and/or removed? I understand that the checksum data is distributed across all disks, unlike a traditional

Is there a way to force the usage of a mixer?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, Is there a way to force Wine to use a particular mixer? I'm not getting any sound via my USB audio in Ubuntu, and I'm wondering if this is because WINE is attempting to use my VIA audio mixer rather than USB Audio (which it does list within winecfg's audio tab for both ALSA and OSS). Any ideas of other things I can try to

Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference? Thanks. Sent from a

Booting fails with `Can not read the pool label'' error
I''m still trying to find a fix/workaround for the problem described in Unable to mount root pool dataset http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=492460 Since the Blade 1500''s rpool is mirrored, I''ve decided to detach the second half of the mirror, relabel the disk, create an alternative rpool (rpool2) there, copy the current BE (snv_134) using beadm

How to rename rpool. Is that recommended ?
Hello, I have a situation where a host, which is booted off its ''rpool'', need to temporarily import the ''rpool'' of another host, edit some files in it, and export the pool back retaining its original name ''rpool''. Can this be done ? Here is what I am trying to do: # zpool import -R /a rpool temp-rpool # zfs set mountpoint=/mnt

ashift and vdevs
zdb -C shows an shift value on each vdev in my pool, I was just wondering if it is vdev specific, or pool wide. Google didn''t seem to know. I''m considering a mixed pool with some "advanced format" (4KB sector) drives, and some normal 512B sector drives, and was wondering if the ashift can be set per vdev, or only per pool. Theoretically, this would save me some size on

recover zpool with a new installation
Hi all, I lost my storage because rpool don''t boot. I try to recover, but opensolaris says to "destroy and re-create". My rpool installed on flash drive, and my pool (with my info) it''s on another disks. My question is: It''s possible I reinstall opensolaris in new flash drive, without stirring on my pool of disks, and recover this pool? Thanks. Regards, --

SUMMARY: mounting datasets from a read-only pool with aid of tmpfs
Hello all, I''d like to report a tricky situation and a workaround I''ve found useful - hope this helps someone in similar situations. To cut the long story short, I could not properly mount some datasets from a readonly pool, which had a non-"legacy" mountpoint attribute value set, but the mountpoint was not available (directory absent or not empty). In this case

Recovery of RAIDZ with broken label(s)
Hi all, I have a 5 drive RAIDZ volume with data that I''d like to recover. The long story runs roughly: 1) The volume was running fine under FreeBSD on motherboard SATA controllers. 2) Two drives were moved to a HP P411 SAS/SATA controller 3) I *think* the HP controllers wrote some volume information to the end of each disk (hence no more ZFS labels 2,3) 4) In its "auto

Cannot destroy snapshots: dataset does not exist
Hello, I have a ZFS filesystem (zpool version 26 on Nexenta CP 3.01) which I''d like to rollback but it''s having an existential crisis. Here''s what I see: root at bambi:/# zfs rollback bambi/faline/userdocs at AutoD-2010-09-28 cannot rollback to ''bambi/faline/userdocs at AutoD-2010-09-28'': more recent snapshots exist use ''-r'' to

Solaris derivate with the best long-term future
As a napp-it user who recently needs to upgrade from NexentaCore I recently saw "preferred for OpenIndiana live but running under Illumian, NexentaCore and Solaris 11 (Express)" as a system recommendation for napp-it. I wonder about the future of OpenIndiana and Illumian, which fork is likely to see the most continued development, in your opinion? Thanks.

ZFS on ZFS based storage?
I''m trying to guess what is the best practice in this scenario: - let''s say I have a zfs based storage (let''s say nexenta) that has it zfs pools and volumes shared as iScsi raw devices - let''s say I have another server running xvm or virtualbox connected to the storage - let''s say one of the virtual guests is OpenSolaris My question is: - is it correct

pv-grub Solaris support
Hello all, I''ve patched pv-grub to allow it to boot a Solaris PV domU using an unmodified menu.lst. The attached patch has been tested with various Solaris versions (Solaris 11 Express, OpenIndiana 151a, OpenSolaris 134, Nexenta Core 3.0.1; all 64-bit). I appreciate your feedback. The patch consists mainly of Oracle''s grub modifications, which add ZFS support and

ZFS and TRIM

Specifically for the slog and/or cache??? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
