ZFS, SATA, LSI and stability
After having massive problems with a supermicro X7DBE box using AOC-SAT2-MV8 Marvell controllers and opensolaris snv79 (same as described here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-233341-1) we just start over using new hardware and opensolaris 2008.05 upgraded to snv94. We used again a supermicro X7DBE but now with two LSI SAS3081E SAS controllers. And guess what? Now we get

Disk failure chokes all the disks attached to the failing disk HBA
Dear All,
It may be this not the correct mailing list, but I''m having a ZFS issue
when a disk is failing.
The system is a supermicro motherboard X8DTH-6F in a 4U chassis
(SC847E1-R1400LPB) and an external SAS2 JBOD (SC847E16-RJBOD1).
It makes a system with a total of 4 backplanes (2x SAS + 2x SAS2) each
of them connected to a 4 different HBA (2x LSI 3081E-R (1068 chip) + 2x

Comparison between the S-TEC Zeus and the Intel X25-E ??
I''m looking at the newly-orderable (via Sun) STEC Zeus SSDs, and they''re
outrageously priced.
http://www.stec-inc.com/product/zeusssd.php
I just looked at the Intel X25-E series, and they look comparable in
performance. At about 20% of the cost.

Can anyone enlighten me as to any possible difference between an STEC

help diagnosing system hang
Hi all,
First, I''ll say my intent is not to spam a bunch of lists, but after
posting to opensolaris-discuss I had someone communicate with me offline
that these lists would possibly be a better place to start. So here we
are. For those on all three lists, sorry for the repetition.
Second, this message is meant to solicit help in diagnosing the issue
described below. Any hints on

WD caviar/mpt issues
I know that this has been well-discussed already, but it''s been a few months - WD caviars with mpt/mpt_sas generating lots of retryable read errors, spitting out lots of beloved " Log info 31080000 received for target" messages, and just generally not working right.
(SM 836EL1 and 836TQ chassis - though I have several variations on theme depending on date of purchase: 836EL2s,

SCSI write retry errors on ZIL SSD drives...
I posted a thread on this once long ago[1] -- but we''re still fighting
with this problem and I wanted to throw it out here again.
All of our hardware is from Silicon Mechanics (SuperMicro chassis and
motherboards).
Up until now, all of the hardware has had a single 24-disk expander /
backplane -- but we recently got one of the new SC847-based models with
24 disks up front and 12 in the

LVM and ZFS
I''m curious about if there are any potential problems with using LVM metadevices as ZFS zpool targets. I have a couple of situations where using a device directly by ZFS causes errors on the console about "Bus and lots of "stalled" I/O. But as soon as I wrap that device inside an LVM metadevice and then use it in the ZFS zpool things work perfectly fine and smoothly (no

Dirves going offline in Zpool
Hi,
I have Dell md1200 connected to two heads ( Dell R710 ). The heads have
Perc H800 card and drives are configured in Raid0 ( Virtual Disk) in the
RAID controller.
One of the drives had crashed and is replaced by a spare. Resilvering was
triggered but fails to complete due to drives going offline. I have to
reboot the head ( R710) and drives comes online. This happened repeatedly

[Patch] credit: Update other parameters when setting tslice_ms
From: Nate Studer <nate.studer@dornerworks.com>
Add a utility function to update the rest of the timeslice
accounting fields when updating the timeslice of the
credit scheduler, so that capped CPUs behave correctly.
Before this patch changing the timeslice to a value higher
than the default would result in a domain not utilizing
its full capacity and changing the timeslice to a value

[BUG] unfairness in Xen's credit scheduler
Hi all,
Since Xen 4.2.0, users can change time slice of the scheduler at
runtime via xl command line, a very nice feature. However, it is
not *correctly* implemented.
Problem description
--------------------
say you set the ''cap'' of one VM to 50 (a half core),
-when setting the time slice to be *greater* than 30ms, the VM gets
much *less* CPU cycles than its allocation

Disk IDs and DD
Hiya,
Is there any reason (and anything to worry about) if disk target IDs don''t start at 0 (zero). For some reason mine are like this (3 controllers - 1 onboard and 2 PCIe);

AD Auth Trusted Domain issues
I have been killing myself on this issue over the last 2 weeks. I have
setup pam AD authentication using winbind on our companies email
servers. That part is currently working. I have been trying to add an
existing "Trusted" child domain and allow authentication from that
domain as well. I am part of the way there, but not quite to the
functional point as of yet. Our primary domain

tick marks on mfrow=c(3,3) plot
I am generating an array of similar plots using the par(mfrow=c(3,3))
method. Everything works fine except the plot only puts y-axis tick marks
on cells in column one and x-axis tick marks on cells in row three. I
would like tick marks on both the x and y axix of all 9 plots in my array.
I am generating plots using the following two functions

Peculiar difference between two Samba servers
I have two Samba servers acting with Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER running Samba 3.2.5.
Both have shares in their smb.conf, both are joined to Active Directory, and are using pam, nis, etc. so that users can authenticate against them (without having to re enter their passwords for each share) and see all permitted files.
Clients are a mixture Macs running OS X 10.5 and Windows clients. Windows

x509 for hostkeys.
This (very quick) patch allows you to connect with the commercial
ssh.com windows client and use x509 certs for hostkeys. You have
to import your CA cert (ca.crt) in the windows client and certify
your hostkey:
$ cat << 'EOF' > x509v3.cnf
CERTPATHLEN = 1
CERTUSAGE = digitalSignature,keyCertSign
CERTIP = 0.0.0.0

OpenSSL 1.1.0 support and RSA_set0_key() double frees?
Hi Jakub,
The patch for this introduces an unconditional goto at line 3344:

as shown in the below snippet:

+ if ((r = rsa_generate_additional_parameters(prv->rsa, iqmp)) != 0)
+ BN_free(iqmp);
