Any recommendations on Perc H700 controller on Dell Rx10 ?
Hi folks: At work, I have an R510, and R610 and an R710 - all with the H700 PERC controller. Based on experiments, it seems like there is no way to bypass the PERC controller - it seems like one can only access the individual disks if they are set up in RAID0 each. This brings me to ask some questions: a. Is it fine (in terms of an intelligent controller coming in the way of ZFS) to have the

ZFS + Dell MD1200's - MD3200 necessary?
We are looking at building a storage platform based on Dell HW + ZFS (likely Nexenta). Going Dell because they can provide solid HW support globally. Are any of you using the MD1200 JBOD with head units *without* an MD3200 in front? We are being told that the MD1200''s won''t "daisy chain" unless the MD3200 is involved. We would be looking to use some sort of

OT: DELL PERC H200
Does anyone know if a PERC H200 is a real RAID controller? I'm about to build a box to CentOS 6.5 (it was Windows...) with RAID 6 on Monday, and this PE R610 has this.... I'm familiar with PERC 6 and 7s, but just dunno 'bout this one. mark

FreeBSD 9 and PERC H200
I got a Dell T110-II server on 2013-July-19. It has two 1Tbyte drives that the PERC H200 controls, RAID 1. I tried to install FreeBSD-9.1-RELEASE from a DVD from FreebsdMall. The autopart segfaulted, evidently because it could not find any disks. I think there is a PR about the segfaulting (bad bug, no messages). I worked around the problem by going to the loader prompt when the initial

Dell R515 with PERC H700 - JBOD?
Hello, I'm curiuos if anyone knows if it's possible to set up a Dell R515 (which has PERC H700) to be JBOD. It seems the only options are RAID0 or RAID1. I read posts, where people say it can by done by making each disk its own RAID0.? This works, but it wigs out when that disk is removed, and forgets a disk was ever there (unless I go back in the PERC and fix it). My plan is to have a

Has anyone used a Dell with a PERC H310?
Hello Sa?o! I found you here: http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/zfs-discuss/2012-May/051546.html "How about reflashing LSI firmware to the card? I read on Dell''s spec sheets that the card runs an LSISAS2008 chip, so chances are that standard LSI firmware will work on it. I can send you all the required bits to do the reflash, if you like." I got Dell Perc H310 controller

Does anyone know if I can reconfigure a PERC H700 without rebooting?
Hi all, I have a server which is really difficult to restart because of usage requirements and the fact that it's in a co-lo rack so miles away. I've added a couple of drives which I'd like to bring up and add to LVM but the config I know is in the PERC BIOS and requires a reboot. Can the config be changed in the openmanage suite and if so can someone point me in the right

Any experience with Dell 1850 Server with PERC 4e/Si
I am looking at using a dual Xeon Dell 1850 with a PERC 4e/Si raid controller. Is anyone using these in production right now? If so can you share some of your experiences? Thanks, Geoff

block align SSD for use as a l2arc cache
I have an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD. For optimum performance, I need to block align the SSD device, but I am not sure exactly how I should to it. If I run the format -> fdisk it allows me to partition based on a cylinder, but I don''t think that is sufficient enough. Can someone tell me how they block aligned an SSD device for use in l2arc. Thanks, Geoff

vcpu-pin cause dom0 kernel panic
I use xen 4.0(dom0 is suse11.sp1,2.6.32 x86_64) on Dell R710 with PERC H700 RAID adapter. --Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz --8 CPU cores. --Memory 64G --RAID5 4.5T When I dedicated (pin) a CPU core only for dom0 use. (I specify "dom0_max_vcpus=1 dom0_vcpus_pin" options for Xen) I got dom0 kernel panic error(pin-1-5.30.bmp) When I pin 2 core to dom0, the dom0 system can boot up,

Running on Dell hardware?
I have a Dell R710 which has been flaky for some time. It crashes about once per week. I have literally replaced every piece of hardware in it, and reinstalled Sol 10u9 fresh and clean. I am wondering if other people out there are using Dell hardware, with what degree of success, and in what configuration? The failure seems to be related to the perc 6i. For some period around the time

Dell OpenManage
Hi Everyone, I have a Xen host (Xen 3.4.2) which is running CentOS 5.5 Dom0. I wish to install Dell OpenManage to get a nice web interface with hardware status. Do I need to do anything special to get this working on a Xen host? Or does it work out of the box? The reason why I''m asking, instead of trying, is that my server is currently on its way to a colo, and I won''t have

Performance issues with iSCSI under Linux
Hi!We''re trying to pinpoint our performance issues and we could use all the help to community can provide. We''re running the latest version of Nexenta on a pretty powerful machine (4x Xeon 7550, 256GB RAM, 12x 100GB Samsung SSDs for the cache, 50GB Samsung SSD for the ZIL, 10GbE on a dedicated switch, 11x pairs of 15K HDDs for the pool). We''re connecting a single Linux

way to replace DELL PERC 6/E card???
we have several R900 servers with PERC 6/E card in it. Recently it we getting some message on /var/log/message say change to "write back" and change back to "write through". We figure out it is PERC 6/E card battery weak. My questions are: 1. some battery only use one year (some even shorter) and already this problem. 2. How come PERC 5/E does not have this issue? 3.

megaraid/PERC
I've got two drives from a now-dead server, they were RAIDed, a mirror, I'd assume. I need to see if there's anything on them I need to transfer to the replacement, so I just shoved them into another Dell server, with a PERC 5 controller - I think that's what the dead one had. I fired up MegaRAID storage manager... but can't see any way to tell it to recreate that RAID. Anyone

ZFS ZIL + L2ARC SSD Setup
I have some questions about the choice of SSDs to use for ZIL and L2ARC. I''m trying to build an OpenSolaris iSCSI SAN out of a whitebox system, which is intended to be used as a backup SAN during storage migration, so it''s built on a tight budget. The system currently has 4GB RAM, 3GHz Core2-Quad and 8x 500GB WD REII SATA HDDs attached to an Areca 8port ARC-1220 controller

New controller card issues
Running CentOS 5 (long story, will be updated some day). A 5 yr old Dell PE R415. Whoever spec'd the order, they got the cheapest, embedded controller. Push came to shove - these things gag on a drive > 2TB. So, we bought some PERC H200's for it, and its two mates. This morning, I brought the system down, and put in the card, and moved the SATA cables. This did not end well. The new
