Not sure how to do this in zfs
Hello all,
I''ve tried changing all kinds of attributes for the zfs''s, but I can''t
seem to find the right configuration.
So I''m trying to move some zfs''s under another, it looks like this:
/pool/joe_user move to /pool/homes/joe_user
I know I can do this with zfs rename, and everything is fine. The problem
I''m having is, when I mount

FreeBSD 9 "gptboot: invalid backup GPT header" error (boots fine though)
I've been deploying FreeBSD 9 without issue on a number of
near-identical servers for a client, but have run into an interesting
annoyance when I hit the two DB servers.
These DB servers have an LSI 3ware 9750-8i (running a 6 disk RAID 10 in
a single 3TB virtual volume) which puts them apart from the other two
servers in this cluster (which don't show either issue I am about to

ipfw2.c,v 1.76.2.17
Hi.
Since this revision (appeared in 6.3) I think ipfw violates POLA.
I mean "ipfw table N list" shows values of table in Internet '.' notation.
A friend of mine was surprised to found Internet representation
of this "optional 32-bit unsigned value".
For example security/bruteblock stores unix timestamps here
and AFAICS there is no possibility to come back to the

MCP55 SATA data corruption in FreeBSD 7
I am having problems with silent data corruption on (some) drives
connected to an MCP55 SATA controller.
I have two servers, both running RELENG_7_0/amd64. One has the 570 Ultra
chipset, the other has 570 SLI. Both chipsets have the MCP55 SATA
controller.
The server with 570 Ultra chipset has a bunch of older 250GB SATA-150
drives hooked up to the MCP55 controller and it is working just fine.

GEOM_PART: integrity check failed (mirror/gm0, MBR) on FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE
I just did a source upgrade from 8.2 to 8.3. System boots but has this
warning:
GEOM_PART: integrity check failed (mirror/gm0, MBR)
Google points to issues with FreeBSD 9 and the need to migrate to GPT
but I wasn't expecting this with 8.3!
Are there any quick fixes to eliminate this warning or is it safe to
ignore please?

bsnmpd always died on HDD detach
I am running bsnmpd with basic snmpd.config (only community and location
changed).
When there is a problem with HDD and disk disapeared from ATA channel
(eg.: disc physically removed) the bsnmpd always dumps core:
kernel: pid 1188 (bsnmpd), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)
I see this for a long rime on all releases of 7.x and 8.x branches (i386
and amd64). I did not tested 9.x.

Siemens Gigaset C450 IP vs S450 IP
I've just ordered a Siemens Gigaset C450 IP cordless
IP/DECT phone, given that it's supported by asterisk
http://www.voipuser.org/review_41.html
However, I see that a slightly better Gigaset S450 IP
is available for only a slight price premium.
Are there any user experiences with the S450 IP?

mixing WD20EFRX and WD2002FYPS in one pool
Hi,
after a flaky 8-drive Linux RAID10 just shredded about 2 TByte worth
of my data at home (conveniently just before I could make
a backup) I''ve decided to both go full redundancy as well as
all zfs at home.
A couple questions: is there a way to make WD20EFRX (2 TByte, 4k
sectors) and WD200FYPS (4k internally, reported as 512 Bytes?)
work well together on a current OpenIndiana? Which

Solaris derivate with the best long-term future
As a napp-it user who recently needs to upgrade from NexentaCore I recently saw
"preferred for OpenIndiana live but running under Illumian, NexentaCore and Solaris 11 (Express)"
as a system recommendation for napp-it.
I wonder about the future of OpenIndiana and Illumian, which
fork is likely to see the most continued development, in your opinion?
Thanks.

Applyiing mode() or class() to each column of a data.frame XXXX
Hi everyone,
I am attempting to use the apply() function to obtain the mode and class of
each column in a data frame, however, I am encountering unexpected results.
I have the following example data:
v13<-1:6
v14<-c(1,2,3,3,NA,1)
v15<-c("Good","Bad",NA,"Good","Bad","Bad")

Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol?
I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference?
Thanks.

to /etc/defaultrouter
Thanks.

Reinstalling boot blocks on a ZFS-only system
So, I've long known and it makes sense that when you're booted from a ZFS volume, you can't mess with the boot-loader. And, I know a few months ago I had a set of commands I would use when booted from a CD that would initialize the network and copy the "release/boot" from somewhere else so that I could install bootblocks and boot-loaders from more recent code. Sadly, I
