brtfs on Solaris? (Re: [osol-discuss] [indiana-discuss] So when are we gonna fork this sucker?)
brtfs could be supported on Opensolaris, too. IMO it could even complement ZFS and spawn some concurrent development between both. ZFS is too high end and works very poorly with less than 2GB while brtfs reportedly works well with 128MB on ARM. building xvm-3.4 gate on indiana
There seems to be no list of needed packages, when starting with a fresh opensolaris dev (b121 today). hg gmake I guessed by now. Additionally the stuff mentioned here: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/indiana/building_on/ But are there further packages needed? Maybe some one should add a verified list to the building howtos... Florian

zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 33, Issue 19
Hello Ross, We''re trying to accomplish the same goal over here, ie. serving multiple VMware images from a NFS server. Could you tell what kind of NVRAM device did you end up choosing? We bought a Micromemory PCI card but can''t get a Solaris driver for it... Thanks Gilberto On 7/6/08 9:54 AM, "zfs-discuss-request at opensolaris.org" <zfs-discuss-request at

You could always use 40-gigabit between the two storage systems which would speed things dramatically, or back to back 56-gigabit IB. ---------------------------------------- From: zfs-discuss-request@opensolaris.org Sent: Monday, March 18, 2013 11:01 PM To: zfs-discuss@opensolaris.org Subject: zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12 Send zfs-discuss mailing list submissions to

[cifs-discuss] Disk quotas with CIFS & ZFS
There''s not much that CIFS can do as far as user quotas go without filesystem support. I''ve CC''ed zfs-discuss, somebody there might be able to provide you something useful. Afshin Ross wrote: > Not sure if this is the best place to ask about this. I know ZFS doesn''t have user quotas, but is there any chance something like this could be added to CIFS? >

[storage-discuss] ZFS iscsi snapshot - VSS compatible?
I don''t know if VSS has this capability, but essentially if it can temporarily quiesce a device like a data base does for "warm standby" then a snapshot should work. This would be a very simple Windows side script/batch: 1) Q-Disk 2) Remote trigger snapshot 3) Un Q-Disk I have no idea where to even begin researching VSS unfortunately... stat() performance on files on zfs vs. ufs
Hi, Bug ID: 6775100 stat() performance on files on zfs should be improved was fixed in snv_119. I wanted to do a quick comparison between snv_117 and snv_122 on my workstation to see what kind of improvement there is. I wrote a small C program which does a stat() N times in a loop. This is of course a micro-benchmark. Additionally it doesn''t cover a case if doing stat() on not cached

Everything works fine until I pull a drive. The system locks up when I try to run any command e.g. zpool status. There is no communication with the server from then on. It does not even respond to pings. >

Why does disable loading of zfs module in boot causes
Hello, I tried to disable loading of the zfs module by adding "exclude zfs" in /etc/system. I rebooted and got into "maintainance mode" with many services disbaled (as svcs -xv shows). I don''t have any zfs partitons on this machine. So my question is: for what is the zfs module in booting of solaris ? Why can''t it be disabled? Regards, David This message
