Zpool Import Hanging
Hi All,
I believe this has been asked before, but I wasn?t able to find too much
information about the subject. Long story short, I was moving data around on
a storage zpool of mine and a zfs destroy <filesystem> hung (or so I
thought). This pool had dedup turned on at times while imported as well;
it?s running on a Nexenta Core 3.0.1 box (snv_134f).
The first time the machine was

Slow pkginstalls due to long door_calls to nscd
Hi all,
I am installing a zone onto two different V445s running S10U4 and the
zones are taking hours to install (about 1000 packages), that is, the
problem is identical on both systems. A bit of trussing and dtracing has
shown that the pkginstalls being run by the zoneadm install are making
door_call calls to nscd that are taking very long, so far observed to be
5 to 40 seconds, but always in

unkillable imap process(es) with high CPU-usage
Hello,
I am having a problem with my dovecot-daemon. It is forking one or more
(I saw up to perhaps 8 of them) imap processes under my user name. These
processes are consuming a lot of CPU time and are not killable:
> PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
> 8616 arno 20 0 2900 1600 1204 R 98 0.2 1196:38 imap
Stopping dovecot does not quit these

ZFS recovery tools
Hi,
I have just recovered from a ZFS crash. During the antagonizing time this took, I was surprised to
learn how undocumented the tools and options for ZFS recovery we''re. I managed to recover thanks
to some great forum posts from Victor Latushkin, however without his posts I would still be crying
at night...
I think the worst example is the zdb man page, which all it does is to ask you

Unkillable imap process?
Hi,
Not sure if this is relevant but having been running dovecot 1.1.4 for a long
time (without any problem) I recently upgraded to 1.1.7 when I switched to
SuSE 11.1 This is just running on my home server and it's a fairly standard
fetchmail-procmail-dovecot setup.
However I recently had an incident which I cannot quite explain. I suspect it
could be a possible disk problem but I did

unkillable wine.bin processes
I'm using an html filter (ala junkbusters) called
Proxomitron (proxomitron.cjb.com) through wine. I find
that this program works great, except that it leaves a
trail of unkillable wine.bin jobs whenever it retrieves a
web page. Going to a page like slashdot results in ~8
wine.bin jobs that will never die, and can't be killed.
(I am using wine from CVS as of 3/12/02 or so)

OH DEAR! - RE: 2.2.2 runaway SMBD process
Jeremy,
Bit of bad news - we had a another runaway SMBD. This time profiles were
NOT involved - I was simply copying up an installation of Office2000 and
then deleting it. It almost reached the end of the deletion when the
processor utilisation went up to 90%. The client connection then dropped
with a 'connection is no longer available' and there is now 99% processor
utilisation on the

Process hanging on 6.0-STABLE
Hi,
I work for a small company that makes radar systems for research
organisations and we use FreeBSD on the PCs for data acquisition and
processing. We have recently shifted to FreeBSD6/amd64 and one machine in
particular is exhibiting a strange problem.
The acquisition process is a Tcl interpreter with a largish chunk of C code
which talks to the hardware (via RS485 and a custom PCI card).

zfs mount hangs
Hi,
System: Netra 1405, 4x450Mhz, 4GB RAM and 2x146GB (root pool) and
2x146GB (space pool). snv_98.
After a panic the system hangs on boot and manual attempts to mount
(at least) one dataset in single user mode, hangs.
The Panic:

ExitThread won't.
Okay, so with complete lack of any other ideas, I tried to
figure out what was wrong with my app (Proxomitron), which
is leaving unkillable processes around.
So I went into ExitThread, and added something like:
DPRINTF("%08lx:Exiting thread...(%d)\n", GetCurrentThreadId(),getpid());
exit(code);
right at the top of the function.
And, lo and behold, the processId matches the

2.2.2 runaway SMBD process
Hello,
I am running Samba 2.2.2 with acl-0.7.16 on RedHat 6.2 (2.2.19). The PDC is
a Windows 2000 Server and the Samba server is a domain member using Winbind.
All the workstations are Windoze 2000 Pro with SP2.
Everything seemingly works fine but every day or two I get a runaway SMBD
process which hogs the CPU and becomes unkillable. The only resolution is
to reboot the server completely.

Accessing a file hangs the accessing process
Hi
System: Dell PowerEdge Dual Processor
O/S: Redhat 7.3 + most patches
Kernel: RH compiled 2.4.18-19.7.xsmp
Not sure whether this is an ext3 problem or not, but I've not seen this on other RH systems.
There is a particular file on an ext3 filesystem that hangs whichever process tries to access it, i.e. an attempt to cp it will hang the cp. the process is unkillable, and a reboot is the

[PATCH] drm/nouveau: handle same-fb page flips
It's questionable use case, but weston/wayland already relies on this behaviour,
and other drivers don't care about it, so it's a matter of compatibility.
Without it, process invoking such page flip hangs in unkillable state, trying
to reserve the same buffer twice.

zfs send hangs
My zfs filesystem hangs when transferring large filesystems (>500GB)
with a couple dozen snapshots between servers using zfs send/receive
with netcat. The transfer hangs about halfway through and is
unkillable, freezing all IO to the filesystem, requiring a hard
reboot. I have attempted this three times and failed every time.
On the destination server I use:
nc -l -p 8023 | zfs receive -vd sas

OCFS Hang
Greetings,
Having read about the previous OSFS hangs, I think this one
that we are seeing is different, but I'm not sure if this is caused by
OCFS or the Linux OS.
We are running OCFS Version 1.09 with Linux AS 3.0/9i RAC.
We have a 2 node Intel Cluster (Node 1 and Node 2). This morning the DBA
tried to do an "ls" command on /u06/oradata/database

Maximum zfs send/receive throughput
It seems we are hitting a boundary with zfs send/receive over a network
link (10Gb/s). We can see peak values of up to 150MB/s, but on average
about 40-50MB/s are replicated. This is far away from the bandwidth that
a 10Gb link can offer.
Is it possible, that ZFS is giving replication a too low
priority/throttling it too much?

iostat -xn 5 _donot_ update: how to use DTrace

I run
#iostat -xn 5
to monitor the IO statistics on SF T2000 server. The system also have a heavy IO load, for some reason iostat donot refresh (no any update). It seems like iostat is calling pause() and stucked there. Also my HBA driver''s interrupt stack trace indicates there is a lot of swtch(), the overall IOPS

Cifs client
I've been using the latest cifs 1.8 client at http://linux-cifs.samba.org/
with Fedora 3 and RHE 4.
This client seems to have a lot of issues that I did not notice when using
smbfs. It seems like when there is an issue with connectivity to a windows
machine, and you try to access a cifs mount, the entire session locks up.
I basically have to kill the session, log back on, and then there is no
