Forcing ZFS options
There are times when ZFS options can not be applied at the moment, i.e. changing desired mountpoints of active filesystems (or setting a mountpoint over a filesystem location that is currently not empty). Such attempts now bail out with messages like: cannot unmount ''/var/adm'': Device busy cannot mount ''/export'': directory is not empty and such. Is it

snv_110 -> snv_121 produces checksum errors on Raid-Z pool
I have a 5-500GB disk Raid-Z pool that has been producing checksum errors right after upgrading SXCE to build 121. They seem to be randomly occurring on all 5 disks, so it doesn''t look like a disk failure situation. Repeatingly running a scrub on the pools randomly repairs between 20 and a few hundred checksum errors. Since I hadn''t physically touched the machine, it seems a

zfs send/receive question
Hello folks, I have a question and a small problem... I did try to replicate my zfs with all the snaps, so I did run few commands: time zfs send mypool/d at 2006_month_10 | zfs receive mypool2/d at 2006_month_10 real 6h35m12.34s user 0m0.00s sys 29m32.28s zfs send -i mypool/d at 2006_month_10 mypool/d at 2006_month_12 | zfs receive mypool/d at 2006_month_12 real 4h49m27.54s user

how to get ''zfs mount -a'' in some order?
I have several filesystems created from the pool; and some mountpoints are inside the others, e.g.: # zfs list NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT nfsv4pool 15.5M 33.5G 98.5K /nfsv4pool nfsv4pool/KRB5_FS 1.87M 33.5G 1.87M /export/test/KRB5_FS nfsv4pool/NOSPC_FS 3.01M 0 3.01M /export/test/NoSPC_FS nfsv4pool/NOTSHARE_FS 105K 33.5G 105K

questions about ZFS Send/Receive
Hi guys, we are proposing a customer a couple of X4500 (24 Tb) used as NAS (i.e. NFS server). Both server will contain the same files and should be accessed by different clients at the same time (i.e. they should be both active) So we need to guarantee that both x4500 contain the same files: We could simply copy the contents on both x4500 , which is an option because the "new

zfs destroy hangs machine if snapshot exists- workaround found
Hi, I was suffering for weeks from the following problem: a zfs dataset contained an automatic snapshot (monthly) that used 2.8 TB of data. The dataset was deprecated, so I chose to destroy it after I had deleted some files; eventually it was completely blank besides the snapshot that still locked 2.8 TB on the pool. ''zfs destroy -r pool/dataset'' hung the machine within seconds

NFS, nested ZFS filesystems and ownership
Hello, I''m sure there is a simple solution, but I am unable to figure this one out. Assuming I have tank/fs, tank/fs/fs1, tank/fs/fs2, and I set sharenfs=on for tank/fs (child filesystems are inheriting it as well), and I chown user:group /tank/fs, /tank/fs/fs1 and /tank/fs/fs2, I see: ls -la /tank/fs user:group . user:group fs1 user:group fs2 user:group some_other_file If I mount

ZFS vs. Apple XRaid
Hello all, After setting up a Solaris 10 machine with ZFS as the new NFS server, I''m stumped by some serious performance problems. Here are the (admittedly long) details (also noted at http://www.netmeister.org/blog/): The machine in question is a dual-amd64 box with 2GB RAM and two broadcom gigabit NICs. The OS is Solaris 10 6/06 and the filesystem consists of a single zpool stripe

Doing ZFS rollback with preserving later created clones/snapshot?
Hi. Is it possible on Solaris 10 5/09, to rollback to a ZFS snapshot, WITHOUT destroying later created clones or snapshots? Example: --($ ~)-- sudo zfs snapshot rpool/ROOT at 01 --($ ~)-- sudo zfs snapshot rpool/ROOT at 02 --($ ~)-- sudo zfs clone rpool/ROOT at 02 rpool/ROOT-02 --($ ~)-- LC_ALL=C sudo zfs rollback rpool/ROOT at 01 cannot rollback to ''rpool/ROOT at 01'': more

Supporting ~10K users on ZFS
OK, I know that there''s been some discussion on this before, but I''m not sure that any specific advice came out of it. What would the advice be for supporting a largish number of users (10,000 say) on a system that supports ZFS? We currently use vxfs and assign a user quota, and backups are done via Legato Networker. >From what little I currently understand, the general

Solaris HDD crash, Restore?
First time user of Solaris and ZFS .... I have Solaris 10 installed on the primary IDE drive of my motherboard. I also have a 4 disc RAIDZ setup on my sata connections. I setup up a successful 1.5TB ZFS server with all discs operational. Well ... I was trying out something new and I borked my Solaris install HDD; the main problem is that I also had my RAIDZ zpool operational. I don''t

Problem w/ b95 + ZFS (version 11) - seeing fair number of errors on multiple machines
Hi, After upgrading to b95 of OSOL/Indiana, and doing a ZFS upgrade to the newer revision, all arrays I have using ZFS mirroring are displaying errors. This started happening immediately after ZFS upgrades. Here is an example: ormandj at neutron.corenode.com:~$ zpool status pool: rpool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was

ZFS volume turned into a socket - any way to restore data?
I have recently upgraded from NexentaStor 2 to NexentaStor 3 and somehow one of my volumes got corrupted. Its showing up as a socket. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to get my data back? It seems like it''s still there, but not recognized as a folder. I ran zpool scrub, but it came back clean. Attached is the output of #zdb data/rt 2.0K sr-xr-xr-x 17 root root 17 Jul

zfs hanging during reads
Hi, I hope there''s someone here who can possibly provide some assistance. I''ve had this read problem now for the past 2 months and just can''t get to the bottom of it. I have a home snv_111b server, with a zfs raid pool (4 x Samsung 750GB SATA drives). The motherboard is a ASUS M2N68-CM (4 SATA ports) with an Athlon LE1620 single core CPU and 4GB of RAM. I am using it

ZFS and memcntl(..., MC_SYNC, ...)
It wouldn''t be proper to start my first post here without congratulations and thanks to the ZFS team for such an impressive piece of work. Anyway, on to my query. I''ve been trying out ZFS, with a particular focus in reducing latency in a specific application. This application has a fair amount of random writing going on in the background (which, of course, ZFS will make
