xen device mapping/translation
Hello, list.
Yesterday I was pleased to see that Centos has released official images at
the aws marketplace. Nice job.
Today I started playing with the Centos 6.3 image (
https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B00A6L6F9I, on which I plan to deploy
a gluster cluster in production soon) and noticed a weird thing.
EBS Volumes attached to sd<X> are translated to xvd<Y> at the OS level.

Handling virtual disks on Xen
Hello everyone,
Im starting to use Xen on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2, but Im not
quite happy yet with the virtual disk management. I still need to do a lot
of research about that, but first I want to ask the community about a simple
way to handle the guest machine disks.
*Is there any way to increase/decrease a guest machine disk after the OS is
installed? Can I have a dynamically

Xen guest''s GUI to display in VNC
Hi,
I''m running CentOS guest domU under Debian dom0. I''m planning to install
Xorg to run GUI in CentOS guest for testing only.
How could I tell the CentOS guest domU to display the GUI in my VNC client
in which I''m remoting from outside on internet? Let say I''m connecting from
my home to the xen guest located in office.
Hope someone could help me on this.

problems in the network config of Guest OS on Xen
I have installed Xen version 7033 on an Intel platform with VT enabled,
and the Xen boot up without any errors. The network is on in Xen but
when I launch the RHEL Guest OS on Xen, IP address failed to be
determined. I ran netconfig and restart my network service and yet fail
to setup the network. I''m currently wanted to setup the Guest OS on a
network so that I can run some benchmark

Guest user when mapping drives
I have Samba 2.0.4b running on HP-UX 10.20.
If I have an automatic drive mapping occur in NT or Win95 to one of my Samba
shares, then the user is authenticated as the guest user. If I don't have an
automatic drive mapped, then the user is authenticated as their actual
username when navigating to the share in Explorer. The users all have Unix
accounts and the authentication is occurring on an

Mapping partitions rather than disks into a Libvirt managed KVM guest
I'm trying to migrate some XEN based environments over to KVM and I'm
having a couple of issues with how I'm currently managing the
storage
On my Xen Server I have a bunch of LVM based partitions that are mapped
into the guests as partitions rather than disks
For example
/dev/VIrtVG/server-home maps to /dev/sda2 which is mounted as /home in the
guest.
Is there a simple way

Raid 1 OS Drives with XenEnterprise?
I''m trying to install XenEnterprise with raid 1 for its OS drives but
the installer doesn''t seem to have this ability. Is there some way to
install it in raid 1? The reason I need this is in case the OS drive
fails, the whole system doesn''t go down.

virtual hdd problems when CentOS is guest OS
I recently installed VMware on CentOS 4.4 (using the single server
CD). I installed VMware fine, and then installed the VMware-mui tools
that allow me to use a Windows box to console to the server. From my
Windows box, I can create VMs on the fly just fine.
Interestingly, I can create virtual Debian boxes ok, but I can't
create virtual CentOS boxes. What might I be missing? As soon as I

Re: RBD volume not made available to Xen virtual guest on openSUSE 15.2 (with libvirt 6.0.0)
It's QEMU 4.2.1-lp152.9.6.1.
I've tried updating it from the Open Build Service repos but there's too
many version conflicts.

a problem with using qcow2 format image files as virtual disks
Hi,
In most cases we use image files as virtual disks under the full-virtualization situation. On the version 4.1.2 of xen,I do the following command:
############################################################
dd if=/dev/zero of=myraw.img bs=1M seek=8K count=1
#Before the command below I install the operating system in myraw.img
qemu-img-xen create -b myraw.img -f qcow2 myqcow1.img 20000M

[PATCH 0/2] Allow xen guests to plug disks of 1 TiB or more
This series fixes an issue where disks of 1 TiB or more cannot be added
to a xen guest. The problem lies in the xen backend driver using a 32 bit
integer xenstore interface to write the number of sectors corresponding
to the file or device that represents the virtual disk.
The first patch adds 64 bit integer write functions to the xenstore
interface. The second patch fixes the xen backend driver

Re: RBD volume not made available to Xen virtual guest on openSUSE 15.2 (with libvirt 6.0.0)
Thanks Jim,
Looking at the logs for the working and non-working setups, the command
line for QEMU is identical and the qmp commands almost the same: they
both do "query-chardev" and "query-vnc" and the working setup does an
additional "qmp_capabilities" which is likely not relevant.
So I guess it must be in QEMU - I'll head over to the bug tracker.
Thanks
