interesting installation problem - interaction between drbd and xen
Hi,
I''ve been building up a new HA system, running Xen on DRBD devices.
Configuration this applies to:
Debian Lenny
xen-linux-system-2.6.26-2-xen-686 package
|**|drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-686
drbd8-modules-2.6.26-2-xen-686
As I''ve been building the system, I ran into an interesting problem,
with two symptoms:
1. running VMs would come back up after a reboot, but would hang on

any recent experience combining GlusterFS w/ Xen?
Hi Folks,
Anybody have any recent experience building a small cluster that
combines GlusterFS and Xen (with bonus points for a Debian environment)?
We''re getting ready to shift from a 2-node Xen/Pacemaker/DRBD
environment to a 4-node environment - and I''d really like to be able to
create/migrate/failover/delete VMs transparently across all 4 nodes.
Seems like Gluster might

about lvm filesystem...........
Sorry for my ignorance.
When I create xen virtual machines on lvm I need to create a
filesystem on lvm container?

how well will this work
Hi Folks,
I find myself trying to expand a 2-node high-availability cluster from
to a 4-node cluster. I'm running Xen virtualization, and currently
using DRBD to mirror data, and pacemaker to failover cleanly.
The thing is, I'm trying to add 2 nodes to the cluster, and DRBD doesn't
scale. Also, as a function of rackspace limits, and the hardware at
hand, I can't separate

XCP graphical display on VM
Hi All,
I plan to use Xen (most probably XCP) to virtualize
two servers: one running OpenBSD, the other running FreeBSD.
These both servers will be running more or less headless (at least
without any graphical environment). I would want
to add a third server (most probably a Debian Squeeze or Freebsd)
to have a desktop (light, probably IceWM or XFCE).
The physical machine will have VTx but

Debugging (possible) Xen-related hang-issues without the possibility of attaching serial console to capture Xen output
Hey all!
I''m currently in the process of trying to debug a (possibly!)
Xen-related issue (with Kernel 3.2.9-vanilla as Dom0, and Xen 4.1.2
[almost] vanilla, except for a patch for CVE-2012-0029), where a system
freezes without me being able to ascertain a triggering event. The
system console is completely unresponsive in the event of hangs (i.e.,
displays motd and the login prompt,

help configuring netboot over remote serial terminal
Hi Folks,
I'm trying to install Debian onto a headless server (Supermicro
X8SIE-LN4F motherboard). The on-board IPMI BMC redirects the serial
port to COM3, and I can talk to it just fine over a remote console
connection.
I've been trying to install Debian remotely, and have the DHCP and TFTP
servers working, and things seem to work (at least into the Splash
screen) if I'm using

LDAP and Linux compatibility
Please excuse a wee bit of cross posting here. It seems that the
questions list may not be the appropriate place for this as I've found
a number of unanswered posts involving this topic.
My FreeBSD workstations are setup with pam_ldap to a centralized
openldap server for authentication. This works perfectly for native
FreeBSD applications. What I'm running into an issue with are Linux

GDM could not write to you authorization file ... Please contact your system adminstrator
I am the system administrator.
I have a system that was built with a default install which resulted
in everything in a single file system except for /boot
wrote some scripts to split out: /home, /usr, /var, /opt, and /tmp to
separate file systems/logical volumes it looks like it ought to work,
There's plenty of space in all the filesystems and I can log via ssh
and have write access in my

sata AHCI controllers (real and virtual)
I saw something somewhere about AHCI support requiring kernel 2.6.19 or later.
But the current CentOS/RHEL stable kernels are 2.6.18
I'm trying to run CentOS/RHEL in a VirtualBox vm, which by default creates sata
virtual disks with an AHCI virtual controller.
These virtual machines are quite unstable, and I'm wondering if the AHCI virtual
controller is the problem.
I do have a real

Live CD problems
Hi,
I'm trying to repair a remote system using the Live CD.
I have VPN access to the subnet where it lives.
An onsite person is booting from cd, and running a small script I
provided to tweak the default firewall rule set to allow incoming ssh,
and set a password for the centos user and start sshd
so far so good I can remotely access the system.
the problem is the live cd environment is

Kerberos to file server
Howdy,
I may be approaching this problem entirely wrong, or not. Was hoping for a
little guidance one way or the other.
I've got this AS/400 with gobs of unused file storage on it that I want to
share across as a file server to a FreeBSD box. The AS/400 side of things
supports NFS and kinda pretends to be a Unix like machine in this role.
Users will be booting from diskless clients

Instalation of lastest version of Shorewall in Debian
I want to use lastest version of Shorewall in my fresh debian squeeze
instalation,
so I follow http://www.shorewall.net/Install.htm#Debian
but, modify preferences file was not enough for me,
I have to modify/add some other files in /etc/apt/ directory:
1.) include testing repo to source.list
2.) add APT::Default-Release "stable"; to apt.conf
and pinning all other packages to stable

Bug#618576: xen-3.2-1: VNC display over HVM XEN 3/Lenny AMD64, displays a blank screen when Debian-Installer Squeeze AMD64 is running on it
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64

Severity: important
I've a Debian Lenny AMD64 as production server, where it has important
HVMs that runs correctly.
The problem occurs when i try to create a HVM from a Debian Squeeze
AMD64 iso file.
At first, the VNC display specified shows perfectly the Debian
Installer menu, but when I choose an option (Install or Graphical

Trying to upgrade domU to squeeze
Hello,
Not sure this is the right place to ask Xen user-questions.
I am running Lenny and try to upgrade a domU to Squeeze.
After the installation of a new xen-kernel in the domU and upgrading
udev I did a reboot but then the kernel does not find the root anymore,
and it's dropping me to a shell. When I look into /dev/ I don't see any
disks or partions.
Is here somebody who can help me

Kernel 2.6.32.41 raid bug on squeeze
Hi,
I''m having issues on intel and amd, when booting it doesn''t assemble the raid devices. It seems to work ok in Lenny but when you upgrade to squeeze it won''t boot.
Anyone else with same issue?

[SOT] Virtualising Asterisk
I know a lot has changed over the past couple of years, and even monthly, and that Asterisk running within a virtualised environment is very happy indeed. If one would only be using SIP/IAX would Xen/KVM be the best solution ? / or perhaps VServer/LXC maybe advantageous due to binary hashing. Your thoughts would be very welcome.

Mail Server in the DMZ question
Been trying to puzzle through a firewall layout here involving E-Mail. Would
have thought this was a more common kind of scenario, but I haven't been able
to Google me up an answer to this one.
At present I have an SMTP server (Postfix) in my DMZ that is simply re-routing
mail into my secure network. This is a less than optimal setup simply due to
having to allow traffic from the DMZ
