Where to put the kernel driver for a Fibre Channel HBA card.
CentOS 6.4 (amd64) stock kernel. HBA FC Accusys ACS 63200NT I built the driver from source, insmod activates the device and I can see the 24 TB storage volume via 'parted --list' I have created a XFS files system and mounted it under /srv/ Where do I need to install the driver in /lib/modules/ ... directory tree so that it is loaded automatically when the system boots? TIA, -- Arun

Question about vport operation for FC HBA
Hi, When I want to use NPIV for a FC HBA in my Linux machine, I got the below error msg in virsh: virsh # nodedev-create /home/kvm/vHBA.xml error: Failed to create node device from /home/kvm/vHBA.xml error: internal error Parent device scsi_host20 is not capable of vport operations I checked the /sys/class folder for my HBA device that I want to use its NPIV feature, it's there:

CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel SAN Target
In waiting, I tried CentOS 8 which was an even bigger bust. I wiped that clean and tried again with Fedora 31. Same darn error "Could not create Target in configFS". Anyone?? Virtualization of Fibre Channel?
In principle, will Xen handle virtualization of Fibre Channel HBA''s? Say I have a physical server with a single FC HBA installed. If I create two domains, will XEN virtualize the HBA so that both of the domains can talk to the FC fabric? -M. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Doc v2: How to use NPIV in libvirt
Thanks for John Ferlan's lots of internal feedbacks, I believe it's more readable, and better orgnized now. Should we create a page for it under http://libvirt.org/deployment.html or add it in WIKI? ========================================== NPIV in libvirt NPIV (N_Port ID Virtualization) is a Fibre Channel technology to share a single physical Fibre Channel HBA with multiple virtual

san suport
Hi, i''m having problems attaching disks from a fc-san to a solaris 10 guest. xen host ist a opensolaris box "SunOS node1 5.11 snv_127 i86pc i386 i86xpv". my xen guest is named pg4. this command works fine. virsh attach-disk pg4 /dev/dsk/c8t600A0B800029D69A000013CA4B00E1ABd0 hdb and before i was able to import this volume as a zpool on the xen host - so connection to this

NPIV & SAN Controller Failover
I apologize if this is a little off-topic, but it does relate to Xen and using NPIV on Xen, so I think this is an appropriate forum for the question. I''ve recently begun using NPIV for a couple of Xen PV domUs rather than traditional disk passthrough. My reasons are primarily for performance - I''m hoping that NPIV has lower overhead and lower reliance on the resources of dom0

Re: Oracle RAC in libvirt+KVM environment
Hi all, I found a article about Hyper-V virtual Fiber Channel, I think this will make Failover Cluster work if KVM has the same feature. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831413.aspx Hyper-V uses NPIV for virtual Fiber Channel, I have read some article about KVM NPIV, but how can I config it with libvirt? Any body can show me some example? On Wed, Aug 14, 2013 at 2:33 PM, Timon Wang

CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel SAN Target
For quite some time I?ve been using FreeNAS to provide services as a NAS over ethernet and SAN over Fibre Channel to CentOS 7 servers each using their own export, not sharing the same one. It?s time for me to replace my hardware and I have a new R720XD that I?d like to use in the same capacity but configure CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel target rather than use FreeNAS any further. Re: Oracle RAC in libvirt+KVM environment
Thanks. I have read the link you provide, there is another link which tells me to pass a NPIV discovery lun as a disk, this is seen as a local direct access disk in windows. RAC and Failure Cluster both consider this pass through disk as local disk, not a share disk, and the setup process failed. Hyper-v provides a virtual Fiber Channel implementation, so I wondering if kvm has the same solution

Libvirt with multipath devices and/or FC on NPIV
Hello, I am trying to find out a best practice for a specific scenario. First of all I would like to know what is the proper way to set up multipath, who should care about it the host or the guest. Right now I have a setup where I have one multipath which sets my host to boot from FC SAN. I have another multipathed LUN in the host which is essentially a dm which I attached to a guest, however

has anyone experienced problems with ocfs2 1.2.5-1 using Emulex LP10000 HBA cards and EMC CX700 SAN's?
Does anyone have any experience with Emulex HBA cards (LP10000) using OCFS2, Linux AS4 U4 x86_64 AMD? I'm trying to find out whether this is a verified combination, if anyone has successfully used it. I have that hardware/sofware combination, and am experiencing stability/performance/panic/hang issues with OCFS2. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

RAID storage - SATA, SCSI, or Fibre Channel?
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and am looking to add more storage. I know a lot of factors can go into the type of answer given, but for present and future technology planning, should I look for a rack of SATA, SCSI, or fibre channel drives? Maybe I'm dating myself with fibre channel, and possibly SCSI? I may be looking to add a few TB now, and possibly more later. What are people

NPIV setup?
I'm missing something. The purpose of NPIV (as I understand it) is to give a guest OS an HBA that it can scan, play with new luns, etc all without making changes to the physical server(s) the guest is living in currently. However, I can't find a way to either have the guest's XML config create the HBA or for the physical server to successfully GIVE the HBA to the guest. I can give

how xen recognizes fibre channel based storage resources
Hello I''m a newbie here so please don''t laugh at me... I plan to setup several (4) physical servers to run xen virtualized OS-es (in example web servers). What I need is that those virtualized OS-es must have simultaneous access to disk storage physically created on FC array. I read that this could be done by OCFS or Lustre file system but my question is: how virtualized

Ang: Ang: Re: Ang: Ang: Re: Ang: Re: attaching storage pool error
Hi! Report from my multipath tests today. My test virtual machine, that runs from an NPIV pool, is not able to use multipath. When I pulled the cable from one of the targets, it crashed. But, strangely, it could boot up again on that other path, that it just crashed on. That tells me it can use both paths, and is not limited to one of them only, but because the multipath layer isn't
