FYI: FreeBSD-5 as of middle of next week and samba ACL
I think the final support for ACL's in freebsd-5 is being added or has been
already and the changes to the samba-devel port which will soon be renamed
to samba22 will compile samba with acl support if you run make -DWITH_ACL as
soon as that patch gets committed to the ports tree. This should happen
pretty soon.

FYI re: "FreeBSD ECE flag ipfw protection bypass"
Several people have noticed that SecuriTeam.com is reporting a
"FreeBSD ECE flag ipfw protection bypass" exploit. In an effort
to save time, let me say this publicly: SecuriTeam.com is three
years out of date.
This problem was fixed in FreeBSD 3.5-STABLE and 4.2-STABLE in
January 2001, and reported in Security Advisory FreeBSD-SA-01:08.

hastctl hang
Hello,
I'm trying to integrate HAST to NAS4Free (FreeBSD 9.1-RC3).
Now I have created version 9.1.0.1.531.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4free/files/NAS4Free-9.1.0.1/9.1.0.1.531/
Basic CARP + HAST + iSCSI target setup can be done, but very frequently I
get hastctl hang when called:
/sbin/hastctl status
/sbin/hastctl dump
Is it better for this method not to call from a script?

How can I improve a Ruby on Rails code that hast a lot of SQL as strings?
Hello Railists,
I have a piece of Ruby on Rails code that has a complex SQL query (well, not
that complex, but as far as I know beyond the ORM capabilities) and for my
taste it has too many strings and harcoded values. I''d like to improve it as
much as possible, so my question is open ended, what else can I do to
improve it?
Some particular issues I have

Hot on the heals of Oracle''s revamp of Solaris support, the licensing agreement for free downloads of Solaris 10 have changed. Infoworld broke the news on Friday.

FYI: SSH1 now disabled at compile-time by default
My two-cents
removing v1 from the server - excellent.
removing it from the client - admirable, but there are many potential
operational concerns as mentioned above. I'll chat a bit about personal
experience with removal of something as being "more secure" when it's
effect is actually lessen "security"
Possible solution - even for beyond ?

Spectrum Analyizer software
This was an interesting post from another list
I'm on. I think that with all of the echo
cancellation discussion happening, that someone
perhaps might be on the lookout for this type of
software, so this post was well-timed for
Asterisk uses. It is perhaps the case that those
of you working on volume/echo/etc stuff might
find this useful towards your goals.

FYI lighttpd 1.4.9 has problems running with rails out-of-the-box
In case this helps anyone I recently finished setting up a Debian server
closely following Ezra''s excellent guidance @
http://brainspl.at/rails_stack.html.
I used newer libraries in some cases (and mysql 5.0) and everything worked
great until the end when lighttpd wouldn''t start. I finally figured out
that Lighty 1.4.9 has a problem working with rails out-of-the-box. See

fyi - additional comments submitted
Hello,
I tried to send some additional comments by marking up the design doc
and sending to this reflector. The document exceeds the 40KB limit of
e-mail size sent to the reflector.
Hopefully, the moderator will approve submission of the comments, but
thought I should let the reflector know they are coming. Alternatively I
could send the .fdf file that has the comments, if that would be

Can I mount an NFS volume and re-export via SAMBA?
We have an NFS filer right now that we need to provide
our windows users access too. For various reasons they
won't use SFU, etc. In our legacy environment we have
a file server that does NFS/CIFS natively. In our new
environment not so much. We want to provide this
service to our users and the solution proposed to me
is to utilize SAMBA as the mechanism to do so. After

mongrel updates?
Hello Zed,
I was just wondering if there were any roadmap/changes coming for
Mongrel in the future. Are there any plans to put the attachment
parsing code back in, or just anything else to be on the lookout for?
Honestly everything''s been working fine for me, so I shouldn''t care,
but I''m one of those guys who loves new toys every few months.
Thanks for making my job

An 'orrible question: Outlook 365 under wine on CentOS?
The only linux-based client that, if I recall, can speak native MS mail
protocols, was Evolution.
I don't know if it still does.

observations/qestions of mbox concurrency ability (Yay!) on current CVS
Hi, all.
Just been testing out the latest "CVS" (in quotes because I'm rsyncing
the source
tree) versions of Dovecot lately.
Tested having Pine on the machine on which Dovecot was running, talking
IMAP, as well as another Pine instance, this time from my Windows machine
over the wire. Things seem to be working wonderfully. Deleted a message
using one instance, then refreshed the
