ActiveRecord / PostgreSQL Performance Issue
I''m currently using ruby-postgres (the compiled interface to
PostgreSQL), and I''m seeing a huge performance hit with larger :binary
fields in ActiveRecord subclasses owing, it appears, to the use of the
bytea field type and the fact that using that datatype necessitates an
in-memory "unescape" conversion. The best I can tell from looking at the

Help with migrations and create
After creating a table in a create table migration, I''m then attempting
to populate a couple of rows of data in the table using the create
method. The first row gets inserted into the database, but any further
calls generate a select against the database, but no insert.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it inappropriate to create more than a
single row of data in a table using

Whoah! My E400P system went AWOL
Hi,
I came back from a quiet weekend today and found my E400P box to have gone
astray. Asterisk is loaded from inittab, and started crashing and reloading
a couple of thousands of times, each time notifying my monitoring service :-P
I remember there would be issues on old cvs stuff since the crash at digium
so I made a clean checkout just now.
Here is what happens when I load manually:

Caching & Attachments
I''m noticing a different behavior between development and production
environments when I use caches_action along with send_data.
I have a method:
def image
@thePic = Picture.find(params[:id])
send_data(@thePic.image.data, :filename => @thePic.image.filename,
:type => @thePic.image.content_type, :disposition => "attachment")
end
Which works fine; it

Assignment in environment
Dear all,
I have a function "fn" with its own environment, i.e.
env <- environment(fn)
and env is not .GlobalEnv. And another function
getValue <- function(x) environment(x)$mylist
which returns the list object "mylist" which is in "env". If I want to
modify "mylist", I could write
'getValue<-' <- function(x, value) {

[LLVMdev] tblgen and sign-extended constants too large for type
Question: How hard should tblgen try to fit constants into a particular
type?
My case is an xor with i8 immediate where I'm using 0xff in as the
immediate value. 0xff should fit into i8 if treated as unsigned, but
CodeGenDAGPatterns.cpp assumes that any and all integers less than
32-bits are signed.
Should tblgen try to see if the sign-extended version of the constant
could fit into the

Is there an official workaround, BTW?

an rpy2, R cgi type question
Hi again.
I'm putting together a little project with R, python, and a website. So I
have an HTML file, a py file, an R file.
Here is the HTML file:

upload file in a database or a server?
Hi,
I would like some suggestions. I''m wondering if it''s better to upload a
file directly into a database or to put the file into the server and
keep the path in the database?
Thanks,
Eric

Ouch! Can't figure out this file upload issue...
Okay, so this is driving me crazy. I''m trying to do a file upload
using code from a book.
What happens:
I get wrong number of arguments (1 for 0) in the upload controller
save action. No idea why.
Schema:
The schema for the picture model object is just a textfield named
comments and a binary field called data.
Upload controller:
def get
@picture =Picture.new
end
def save

[LLVMdev] Proposal for -filetype=obj full big endian support
Proposal for ELF text and data big endian support for direct object generation
Unless I am mistaken, currently big endian support in the MC layer for ELF
direct object generation is limited to ELF headers and tables like relocations.
Text and data section contents are still generated as individual bytes.
It looks as if the effort was started, but never completed.
The proposal is to extend the

[LLVMdev] understanding DAG: node creation
Hi,
I'm not sure. But in your lowered DAG the chain nodes are the first
operands for you custom nodes, however for the other nodes the chain is
the last operand. I seem to remember that during targetlowering the
chain is the first operand and then it seems to switch over after
ISelDAG, this confused me and may have something to do with the issue
that you are seeing. I really don't

[LLVMdev] Difficulty with reusing DAG nodes.
I'm trying to implement *MUL_LOHI for my processor.
My processor has mulxss (e.g.) that gives the 32 high bits of a 64 bit
multiply.
I tried this in ios2ISelDAGToDAG.cpp:
/// Mul/Div with two results
case ISD::SMUL_LOHI:
case ISD::UMUL_LOHI: {
SDValue Op1 = Node->getOperand(0);
SDValue Op2 = Node->getOperand(1);
AddToISelQueue(Op1);

[LLVMdev] Proposal for -filetype=obj full big endian support
Jim,
I see routines that are already available to do the endianizing, but the data and text section contents don't have sizing for the individual elements as far as I can see so that I can endianize them. That is the part I am trying to solve, not the bit twiddling algorithm.
Did I miss something?

[LLVMdev] Suggestions for optimizations
Hello!
I was trying to optimize our automatically generated backend for Open
RISC and for this purpose I went through the
gcc torture testsuite.
There are many programs that are better optimized by LLVM, but some are
much better optimized by gcc 4.9.
The main limitations were is loop unrolling and structures handling.
Differences can be best seen e.g. when compiling for an
