Monitoring _real_ CPU utilization
Is there any way to monitor the _real_ CPU utilization for a given
xen installation?
I have a 4x dual-core AMD system running 10 domU''s, and I''m not sure
if I''m overloading or under-utilizing the hardware.
I''ve been using xentop to see how much virtual cpu each domU (and
dom0) is consuming, but I''m finding it hard to figure out what the

Monitoring Network traffic of DomU
Dear All.
I have set up a Xen testbed on a computer.(Dom0 use debian lenny)
I would like to know the possible ways to monitor the network traffic of
DomU''s from Dom0.

dom0 uses 98% of the CPU''s with o without any domU''s
Hi all,
Using xentop you can see dom0 uses 98% of the CPU''s with o without any
domU''s running.
Using top on dom0 shows cpu nearly 100% idle
The pc has an intel dual core processor running xen3.0.2
Booting a domU and domU performance is bad.
Any ideas please?
Chris.

Dom0 NETTX, NETRX alway are 0
I tried netperf / netserver with Dom0 / DomU, but I could''nt get a correct
NW traffic with xentop. Is there anybody could help me?
At Host1''s Dom0, run netperf -H VMIP
At Host2''s DomU (with VMIP named TTVM), run netserver
At Host1, run xentop this way ->"xentop -n -b -d 1"
At Host2, run xentop this way->"xentop -n -b -d 1"

PVonHVM, Networking and xentop
All,
I have a domU running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64bit using PVonHVM which is working well but I noticed a quirk and just wanted to check it wasn''t just my misunderstanding. On my dom0 (Arch Linux, 64bit, AMD Phenom 2 X4 965 CPU, Xen 4.2.0 from my own PKGBUILD) I run "xl top" and xentop loads and shows all the currently running domains; only none of the domains have anything

UPS (Power) Monitoring on dom0...
Hi All,
I have a USB-HID compatible UPS which is connected to my dom0 (CentOS
5.1) which is being monitored. I have a bunch of domU''s of various
OS''es, and was wondering if anyone has a solution to send the "state"
of the UPS to the domU''s (read-only). I''d like that in the event of a
power-outage and the UPS''s batteries are low that before

xentop CPU% wrong?
Hello,
I noticed that the CPU% reported by xentop appears to be too high. With
dom0 idle xentop is reporting between 14-17% CPU utilization while at
the same time top in dom0 is reporting 1-4% CPU utilization. I see that
the TODO for xentop includes a task to make CPU% more accurate but
looking at the code for xentop and libxenstat I''m not sure how to go
about this. Assuming the CPU

Nagios Monitoring with xentop
I am creating some custom nagios plugins and I am scraping data from
xen using the nagios command:
/usr/sbin/xentop -b -i 2 -d1
I am trying to get the network tx / rx data, however I think I am
missing something here.
NETTX(k) NETRX(k)
So total network bandwidth is 1048576 k if the above header from xentop is true.
So I am wondering why the output for each vm exceeds the theoretical

Freenas domU network performance issue
Hi guys,
I''m running a freenas domU (FreeBSD 8.3 based, ZFS v28, 2 vcpus mapped to
the same HT capable core) to serve storage for all purpose including other
domUs running on the same host. I did some study to understand how well it
works and the result is kind of confusing.
In summary, the network performance between domains on the same host is
worse than expected. And NFS service to

Error: Device 0 not connected
Hi,
I''m new to Xen and I''ve set up a few domUs using Debian (I suspect
there may be a problem there, see at end).
To begin with everything worked OK, I rebooted domUs without any
problems, but twice now when I try when I try to restart or shutdown a
domain, the xm command locks up.

qemu-dm memory leak?
Hi,
Me and another sysadmin has independently been researching a problem where DomU randomly locks (Can’t reach it via xl console, no ping / SSH connection, shown as stuck in running-state in xentop) on two of our separate machines (installed completely independently):
Dom0:
Debian 7.0 with Xen version: 4.1.4 and xen-utils 4.1.4-3+deb7u1
Debian 7.1 with Xen version: 4.1
DomU:

Xen HVM domU won't start since updates to 2.6.18-164.15.1 kernels
I have a dom0 machine running CentOS 5.4 with all the latest updates
using Xen as my hypervisor. I am using Xen in part because this machine
was set up prior to KVM being included in RHEL, and in part because
KVM's network bridging configuration is not nearly as simple as Xen's.
The dom0 machine is a headless Mac Mini and I do all of my VM management
via virsh from the command line. I

Need kernel-debuginfo-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL.x86_64.rpm
Short story:
Would it be possible to get
kernel-debuginfo-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL.x86_64.rpm on di.c.o?
I have a need to run crash on a 2.6.9-67.0.20.ELxenU xm dump-core.
Long story:
Two Dell 6950 (now called R905, 4 Dual-Core AMD Opteron 8200 series)
heartbeat/drbd nodes running the stock CentOS 5.2 Dom0. The domU's are
the only resources in heartbeat.
Dom1 is a perfectly running, updated, CentOS

GPLPV drivers suspected to hinder live migration to different CPU type
Hi,
I''ve noticed that on a Xen cluster with three nodes (two E5620 CPUs and
one E5140 CPU) live migration works perfectly in between to two E5620
nodes, but fails to and from the E5140. The error message is about a HVM
context not being able to be set.
I strongly suspect the use 238 GPPVL drivers, but I cannot uninstall
them at this point because someone else needs the server.

RAM disapeared?
Hello,
I have some dom0 which have 8GB RAM, but when I look with xm list, it
just shows me 6GB,
I need to setup some new VM, each with 1GB, so I should have with 3VM
still 5GB free,
but im only seeing 3GB.
Can I just create 2 new VM with each 1GB and still have 3GB for the dom0?

Xen Dom0 performance reporting/monitoring
Hi All,
Debian Lenny, Xen 3.2.1
Apologies if this has been covered many times before, but I''m unsure how
to go about this.
I want to obtain stats from my dom0, IO, cpu etc over time to see if I''m
getting any load peaks or if my hardware could handle more domU''s. I''m
thinking of something similar to sar which gives you 15 minute averages
across the day.

Difference between host and guest traffic
Hello,
I expected that when I use ifconfig command to display network traffic RX and TX values both for dom0 and domu machine,
there are differences.
I run once ping inside the domu.
domu ifconfig command show

RX packets 705 bytes 55860 (54.5 KiB)
TX packets 521 bytes 65074 (63.5 KiB)

Activity logger for Xen Guest Domains using libvirt
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows of any tools I can run on my Dom0 to log
various stats (like CPU usage, memory usage, etc) for each guest
domain for analysis over a period of time? I can see that xentop
displays that information anyway but would be nice to be able to
present that information on a web based interface for day to day
administration.
Also any tools that send out email

Monitoring Xen with Zabbix..
Is anyone using Zabbix to monitoring Xen at the dom0 level?
Right now I have the Zabbix agent running in each domU but I would like to
get per domU and aggregated statistics from the hyper visor perspective.
I see a bunch of ''hard'' ways to collect these stats but first I want to make
sure there isn''t some ''magic pill'' for Zabbix / Xen that I might of

Dom 0 CPU utilization measurement
Hi all,
If I want to measure the Dom0 CPU utilization, which is a more
accurate way among the following 3 options?
1. Running profiling program like "sar" in domain 0.
2. Running Xentop in domain 0
3. Running Xenmon.py in domain 0
By running these 3 different program, the results have certain
differences. So I am confused here which to use.Thank you in advance.
