Poor network performance on Win2k3 DomU
Hi everyone. I´m having this problem with Red Hat 5.4 running on a HP ProLiant BL460c G6. I have two windows 2k3 x64, but network performance is extremely bad without PV drivers, i mean, it takes a lot of time to access any location and if the path has many folders it can´t conect. Redhat provides some PV dirvers. I´ve installed them, but with no improvements. I tested another DomU, with the

Using the Xen GPLPV drivers
There seems to be an outdated page to use PV drivers here: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenWindowsGplPv I''d be great if that could be updated. After installing the PV drivers in windows I didn''t notice any difference in performance at all. Windows says the drivers are working. Some more searching and reading and it appears that I do actually need to make some changes to

GPLPV driver problems with Win2k8-R2
Hi all, after installing the driver ( I used the Vista-2008-Debug version) and rebooting, the system presents me an interface for recovering the OS using an image. I use Xen 3.3.1 Is there a workaround? Thanks and regards, Francesco Gallo _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com

known_hosts vulnerability?
Hey all, I came across a security news article, referenced by http://www.linux.org/news, at http://www.techworld.com/security/news/index.cfm?NewsID=3668 talking about an SSH weakness involving the known_hosts file. I apologize if this issue has already been addressed, but the mailing list archives didn't turn up anything when i tried searching for something relevant. So; not to knee-jerk or

Local privilege escalation bug in kernel
Do we know if this bug affects Centos? http://www.techworld.com.au/article/413300/linux_vendors_rush_patch_privilege_escalation_flaw_after_root_exploits_emerge The article states that it affects kernel 2.6.39 and above, but since RH backports so much stuff I'm not sure if this would actually include the Centos kernels. -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~

I wonder if this uses Wine?
http://techworld.com/opsys/news/index.cfm?NewsID=3064 The fact that they talk about Notes (the client) rather than Domino (the server) suggests that they may be running the Notes client (as I and many others do) under Linux, and the only way I know of to do this is to use Wine. David

LVM related bug in the GPL PV drivers for Windows?
Dear Xen users! In case you were struggling with recent version of th gplpv drivers, I''ve possibly found an LVM related bug in it, and reported to James Harper. Thats''s the point: I''ve tested the mentioned version of your driver on top of 32bit xen-3.2.1 32bit xen-3.3.0 and 64bit xen xen-3.3.0 hypervisors, dom0 was always an appropriate version of a 32bit PAE kernel,

Xen version
Hi, We are thinking of using CentOS with XEN in production, but we are facing some issues regarding the 3.0.3 version of the xen hypervisor and windows paravirtualization. The drivers we are using are from here ( http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenWindowsGplPv). The solution we found is upgrading to xen 3.4.2, using a strange repository (gitco.de), and everything seems to work. Now the question

Unable to remove GPLPV drivers without breaking win2k3 domU
I have a Win2K3 domU (and thankfully an image backup of the LVM volume that holds its system disk) I previously installed GPLPV v0.8.9 drivers, the domU boots OK with or without the /GPLPV switch in boot.ini, however with the /GPLPV switch it tries and fails to use the Xen network driver, and so the machine is network-less, so for the past few months I''ve left it using pure HVM

Windows Xen VM's have high guest CPU usage and poor performance
Hello all, I have a PowerEdge 2950 that I am using to host Windows XP VM's under CentOS. I am experiencing poor performance in the Xen VM's. Any time I try to do something, the CPU usage (as reported by the Windows task manager) hits 100% for a few and then drops back down. This is causing the VM's to run sluggish and be quite annoying to use. Example.. I click IE.. cpu hits

[Bridge] SMP vs UNP performance
I was running a frame loss test the other day against an rhel4 smp kernel and a non-smp kernel. I noticed I was getting better numbers when I ran the non-smp kernel. I was surprised by that. Anyone have any insight into this? I am running this with e1000 dirvers. I also ran a test where I ran the smp kernel with hyper threading turned on and off. There, the frame loss numbers were worse when

I''m looking for the right distribution to run Xen
Hi, we''ll start virtualization with Xen in our company and we''re looking for the right distribution. The most important Servers in DomUs are working with a MS OS (Win2000/2003/2008). I''ve read something about to accelerate Windows with paravirtual drivers in some distributions. Other distributions have specific tools to install and support DomUs. And now I''m

How to debug DomU WinXP throught serial port with windbg?
hi, I am using xen-unstable version and I can use the serial port to debug DomU openSuSE Linux with kgdb very well. But it doesn''t work when I am trying to debug DomU WinXP with windbg. I happened to find this link http://www.evilbitz.com/2006/12/13/howto-debugging-a-remote-windows-hvm-under-xen-using-windbg/, but it still doesn''t work for me. Any suggestions about this?

Is there a way to map pv guest pseudo physical address into dom0?
Hi, all I''m reading the code of QEMU''s virtio infrastructure (hw/virtio.c) and Linux''s virtio driver (virtio_blk.c, virtio_net.c). Virtio drivers utilize scatter gather infrastructure in the Linux kernel. It stores the physical addresses in scatter list. In Xen''s hvm case, QEMU can access guest address space with cpu_physical_memory_map. However, in

Howto hide scsi or other hardware from the virtual system
Hi, I have created a virtual system via xen and would like to strip some unrequired virtual hardware from it. Example: my virtual Windows system shows me a scsi PCI device (as unknown device). I would like to get rid of it - I am only using IDE in the virtual system. How can I hide specific hardware from the virtual system? Cheers, Emre P.S.: as far as I understand specifying

NIC Offloading Confusion
I have been using the built in Xen Paravirt NIC drivers for paravirt networking and had bad performance until I disabled all offload setting on the bridge and paravirt nic (From Dom0). There are 2 related questions I have, where should I be tweaking the offload settings, the Dom0 Physical NIC, The Bridge or the DomU NIC? Which settings in particular tend to cause trouble? (I just disabled all of
