No keyboard input when running RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Be forewarned, I am new to Linux. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). I have installed wine (1.1.38) and I am able to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 both with and without a virtual desktop. It runs with no problems except for the fact that it does not receive keyboard commands! I have looked all over the Internet and still have yet to find a solution. Someone help, please! I haven't

barrier and commit options?
Hello, On my home server (Debian etch, custom 2.6.28.2 kernel), I am using ext3 for both root and /home filesystems, with barriers enabled to prevent corruption caused by my PATA disk write cache. Looking for a better performance, I have also set the commit=nr option as described in linux-2.6.28.2/Documentation/filesystems/ext3.txt, so that I now have: niko at petole:~$ mount -t ext3

OT: P4 Vs Xeon for Linux
I have just had delivered a new HP Proliant server and it is based on an Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processor. On site already we have an Acer Altos G310 with a P4 2.8GHz processor. The new HP server was destined for another site with about 30 persons to service some simple file and print sharing and to manage their email (postfix + MailScanner). The Acer is hosting our Intranet, file and print sharing

SAS Controllers
Hi All, first time post so please excuse any blunders We are specifying two servers using supermicro X7DBE+ MB and want to add on a SAS controller for Raid 10. We want to use the CentOS 4.4 X86_64 distro. We are currently considering an Intel CC SRCSAS144E SAS Raid Controller for the servers using 4 Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD, and a Adaptec SASC RAID 4805 8-port for the server using 6 Fujitsu

Echo Canceling
I have been battling echo since we installed a new system at one of our clients. I am using a single span digium card. I believe this is the first time someone has setup a PRI in this area (its way out in the middle of nowhere). We get slight echo on all calls, and when calling some numbers (long distance calls but still in the local area), we get very loud echo. The person calling out can hear

Sizing MTA servers
Hi All, This is probably a bit off-topic but does anyone have any idea about sizing MTA servers.?? We have about 200,000 emails/hr? incoming and outgoing.? I am intending using Exim and Spamassassin on each MTA.? How many servers using recent hardware would I need to cope with this mail throughput?? What is more important on the servers, CPU or RAM?? Should I have mail going both directions on

Please advise on very fast search
Hello, I try to create some kind of mail backup system. What I need is system that will store mail for the whole domain, and allow me to restore messages from/to specified email at that domain. The scheme is pretty simple: on our main mail server the SMTP server itself has a rule to send a copy of every message to 'backup at backupserver.host', and the backupserver.host domain is

Problem using Lag on time series
I'm trying to duplicate something in Excel, where it is easy to reference the previous row in formula. Have been stuck on this for ages trying to achieve the same result in R. I've managed to do it with a loop but it takes ages on a large data set. What I want to do is create a new variable in a matrix that will refer to it's previous value if the ifelse statements aren't met.

ZFS Appliance as a general-purpose server question
A customer is looking to replace or augment their Sun Thumper with a ZFS appliance like 7320. However, the Thumper was used not only as a protocol storage server (home dirs, files, backups over NFS/CIFS/Rsync), but also as a general-purpose server with unpredictably-big-data programs running directly on it (such as corporate databases, Alfresco for intellectual document storage, etc.) in order to

PCI passthrough of cciss HBA
All, I would like to run the following issue past the list to confirm that my problem analysis makes sense or whether I missed something: We have a HP ML370G6 server with VT-x and VT-d enabled in the BIOS. It is equipped with two Smart Array HBAs - one connected to the HDD array (SmartArray P800) and one connected to an LTO tape drive (SmartArray P212). Both controllers use the same driver
