Migrating rails 1.0 app to 1.1 - Noob question
Hi all, I''ve upgraded my system to Rails 1.1.1 successfully. After much looking I haven''t found out how to migrate an existing application to a new rails version though. What is the procedure, if any, for upgrading the application I''ve developed in 1.0? Is there a script I need to run? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Good image API for RoR?
Hi, I need a relatively simple image api for the app I''m writing. I need to copy photos, rename them, and re-size them to put them in a standard format. I tried using RMagick/Imagemagick, but the photos would be corrupted on re-size, so I''m looking for some suggestions. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

State of the Breezy
What''s the current state of Rails installation on a fresh Ubuntu Breezy? I''ve just set up a laptop with a fresh installation, and tried to install ruby et al, and got nowhere fast. The default ruby is 1.8.3, and compiling the source for 1.8.4 leaves the rubygems setup.rb breaking unable to find zlib (and yes, I have checked for zlib1g-dev and readline). Is there a known

Recurring mySQL Error
I am getting the following error when running my app on the server: mysql::Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query: <some SQL here> The SQL is usually a SHOW FIELDS statement, but after scouring the log files I see that it occassionally happens with other queries as well. I did a little research, and one topic I found suggested that I edit the /etc/mysql/my.cnf and increase

RMagick on OS X - HOW
Hello all. I''m a seasoned system administrator and have no fear of building source packages on a variety of platforms, but RMagick has, until recently, evaded all of my attempts to building it on my PowerBook. Someone else just mentioned that they had trouble with RMagick on OS X (Intel, don''t really know if my advice will help) so I decided to post a HOWTO to the list. I

Rubuntu Live CD for Rails
Friends- I am almost finished with a custom live cd called Rubuntu ;-) This is an ubuntu live cd variant that comes preloaded with ruby and rails developers in mind. I already have it working with all the basics but I was wondering what extras people would like to see on this distro. What editors with what configurations? What other tools do people really like for rails development on a

Illegal char \002? Need to restart Rails to see changes?
Hi all, I''m developing an app on a home Windows computer and using SVN/Capistrano to deploy to a Linux server. I''m encountering some bizarre behavior that I think has something to do with Linux and Windows text file types, but I''m not sure. What''s happening is that, whenever I edit my view files and reload the page in my local browser, I see errors saying

New Release: One-Click Ruby Installer 1.8.4-17 release candidate 2
We are almost there to a final release. The uninstall issues have been fixed, and a few packages have been upgraded to more recent versions. Many thanks to Ryan Leavengood and Shahank Date who stepped in to help finish off this release! *** Only "show-stopper" problems will be fixed *** We are extreme short of manpower at the moment. Help, Gruff is killing me
Hi all, I hope somebody can help me out here, since the issue has been killing me for the last three days. Here is the issue: It seems that gruff kills rails/webrick whenever it''s used on win32. I installed gruff per instructions and it seems to be working. The sample controller generates a nice grpah with send_data and all. The issue started once I try to use any other

Image resizing
Does anyone know of a library to resize images aside from RMagick? RMagick looks awesome but I''ve heard it doesn''t really work on Windows, and it doesn''t work with Ruby 1.8.4. Also, all I need to do is resize some images. With RMagick that might be trying to swat a fly with a howitzer. Thanks. M. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

win32-service weirdness
I''ve got my application running under Windows with mongrel perfectly, so it was time to convert it to a service. service::install works fine, but service:start gives me some "One moment, start pending" and then lots of "One moment, stopped". tab characters with Rails 1.1 on Windows
We just upgraded to Ruby 1.8.4 and Rails 1.1. It works fine on my Mac OSX, but in Windows, Rails spits out errors like "Invalid char `\002'' in expression". Apparently, Ruby or Rails on Windows has a problem parsing tab characters. This seems to be a common problem: http://softiesonrails.com/articles/2006/04/27/spaces-not-tabs However, the only recommended solutions seems
