RHEL 5.2 Xen Kernel doesn''t detect all amount of physical memory
Hello All,
Does anyone know what is the current status of RHEL 5.2 x86_64 with respect
to the maximum amount of RAM detected by the Xen 64 bit kernel
(the one that shipped with Red Hat distribution )
In the following link
https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/en-US/RHEL510/Virtualization_Guide/ch-virt-hw-support.html
it states that 32GB of RAM is the maximum amount of

ACPI HPET Timer - Works on standard Kernel - Broken on Xen Kernel
I have an error in my dmesg system log about hpet not correctly
enabling:
hpet_acpi_add: no address or irqs in _CRS
The same kernel without Xen enables it fine:
hpet0: at MMIO 0xfed00000 (virtual 0xffffffffff5fe000), IRQs 2, 8, 31
hpet0: 3 32-bit timers, 25000000 Hz
hpet_resources: 0xfed00000 is busy
Do I have to pass an additional boot option? (ACPI is already enabled)
or is there

Xen 3.3.0 cpu cache problems
Dear Xen users,
I have a problem with "Xen 3.3.0". All domU (paravirt) only have "32 KB"
of cache instead of "6144 KB" as listed in dom0. This is really
noticeable under load since the system tends to be really slow.
I did not have this problem with "Xen 3.2.1".
I''m using the same domU configuration files for the new and the old
installation.

My future plan
My future plan currently looks like this for my VPS hosting solution, so any feedback would be appreciated:
Each Node:
Dell R210 Intel X3430 Quad Core 8GB RAM
Intel PT 1Gbps Server Dual Port NIC using linux "bonding"
Small pair of HDDs for OS (Probably in RAID1)
Each node will run about 10 - 15 customer guests
Storage Server:
Some Intel Quad Core Chip
2GB RAM (Maybe more?)

howto upgrade
Hi,
I would like to ask the proper or recommended way of upgrading xen...?
I started with 3.1.0 then upgraded to 3.2.1 but now I am not able to use
the original system. Since I am not satisfied[*] with the current setup
I would try to upgrade to 3.3.1 but it would be nice if something went
wrong I could downgrade it to 3.2.x... It is a pitty that booting the
previous xen image does not work

Powernow Failure with Xen Kernel
Sorry to have so many questions but I seem to have quite a few mini
problems with my first Xen setup. My xen server works fine with Powernow
on the standard Kernel but with the Xen kernel it fails. Does anyone
know why? Details below.
With Standard Kernel

RE: xen - rdma live migration support
Hi Ola,
There was some code done by IBM a few years ago in conjunction with a University that worked and showed the benefits but AFAIK it was never integrated into Xen. The research paper is around on the web.
A few of us requested RDMA migration support for version 4.0 and it is at the top of the request list, I suspect it is probably a case of enough people asking and Citrix approving.

I am trying to install Win2008 x64 on xen. However it always crashes

anyone assist with this? How can I get x64 to work?

Problems with GPLPV network latency
Hi,
DomU is a Win2008 R2 64
When i install the GPLPV drivers the network latency goes from 15ms to
random numbers up to 1200ms and eventually dies. If you run a ping from
the DomU to another host the network stays alive but the high latency is
still there.
Further more if i try and uninstall the network driver i am unable to
use the old one (realtek) as it cannot detect the device.

Large server, Xen limitations
Hi,
we''re contemplating getting a large new server, where we will run a number
of
virtual servers. Are there any things we need to keep in mind in that
case? Are
there limitations on what a Xen system can manage?
We''re talking about a 4 x Quad core CPU server with 64 GBs of RAM and a
couple of terabytes of RAIDed SATA storage.

NIC Offloading Confusion
I have been using the built in Xen Paravirt NIC drivers for paravirt
networking and had bad performance until I disabled all offload setting
on the bridge and paravirt nic (From Dom0).
There are 2 related questions I have, where should I be tweaking the
offload settings, the Dom0 Physical NIC, The Bridge or the DomU NIC?
Which settings in particular tend to cause trouble? (I just disabled all

extend hdd in domU
Hi Alli need some information about how i can extend the HDD in domU.
I am a domU having 10GB of disk assigned to it now which is running out of
space.
is there a way i can assign a other 10GB space to the system in such a way
that it appears as a single HDD of 20GB without loss of data.
Thanks

Am I running NUMA?
The subject says it all really, I''m pretty sure the system and bios are
NUMA aware but I''m not sure if it''s enabled? Is it supported in 3.2.1
stable?

docs/reference for NUMA usage?
i''m reading up on numa usage. so far, i''ve enabled numa on my Xen
box. @ Dom0 i see,
xm dmesg | grep -i numa
(XEN) Command line: ... numa=on ...
(XEN) No NUMA configuration found
i guess i need to ''configure'' numa. i''ve no clue how, and haven''t
found the docs for it yet, despite looking.

Virsh-install error
Hi everyone,
This is my first attempt at a PV guest install from scratch and I''m a
tad confused. Have I answered one of the questions virsh-install asks
wrongly?
Does anyone know of a general guide for installing PV guests with
virsh-install? (Most Centos docs seem to use the GUI based virt-manager
and I only have command line access).
Am I meant to make use of the files here:

New to XEN
Hello to all.
Im new to Xen and virtualization. We are a small business, with up to 10
users. In order to reduce our TCO, Im thinking on installing virtual
machines to cut down costs and maintenance.
1) A 10/100/1000 network to which 1 virtual machine server attached
2) The different virtual server to run in it are :
a. MS Windows 2003/2008 Domain controller, DHCP and
