Need some clarifications regarding VT-d requirements for PCI passthrough in Xen 4.1
Hello, I am looking into building a workstation using Xen to host several operating systems. Looking at the pci passthrough requirements of Xen4.1 on the VTdHowTo<http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/VTdHowTo>page, I am a little puzzled with the fact that only Intel Core2Duo (with VT-x), Core2Quad, i7 and Core i5 (vPro Brand) CPU''s are supported while motherboards with the i55x0

Intel VT-d and Asus Desktop/Workstation mainboards, eg. Asus P9X79 WS
Good day to you Im a casual Xen user and am also using I/O Virtualization. I had always trouble getting DMAR tables (and IOMMU) recognized with Asus Mainboards, despite the fact that I always used this boards a lot. Since the Nehalem Intel architecture, I looked into Intel Mainboards due the fact that this seems to work out with Xen, Linux and VT-d. My request is, that someone who tried Asus

VT-d support in haswell mainboards and CPUs
Hi! I wanted to post this to Xen WIKI, but I have no write rights there. I have talked to AsRock support, and they said, that: - all Z87, H87, Q87 and B85 asrock mainboards support vt-d, - you have to check if vt-d is supported by the CPU, - there are no information on vt-d support in future haswell mainboard chipsets, like H81. I''m willing to test it, when I get hands on

Motherboard capable of VT-d
Hi! I''ve got a motherboard (Gigabyte GA-G33-DS3R) where the Ethernet port has been broken. I''ll buy a new motherboard, but wants to keep all my other equipment (CPU, Memory, TV-cards etc). The requirements/wishes on the new motherboard are 2 Ethernet ports and 2 PCI slots. It would also be good if it would support VT-d. I''ve found two boards that would fulfill my

Intel VT-d success
I just wanted to let you guys know that the Intel 3210SHLX server board works with VT-d. I''ve googled a lot, and could''t find much about it. The BIOS needs to be updated to R0047 for it to be enbled. (or at least later than R0044 which mine was shipped with) I tested exporting a nic to a smothwall hvm domU, works fine. Exporting a 3Ware 9xxx series Raid controller to a WinXP

Intel VT-d Support
Hello all, please tell me, how can I be sure that my Xen installation is built with Intel VT-d support? Something like xm info | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION xm dmesg | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION What a line should I look for? And if my installation was really built with VT-d support, how can I be sure, that Xen has successfully initialized VT-d hardware? I have read [1] and the

Need advice for searching vt-d capable mainboard
Hello, I''m searching a vt-d capable system for one customer. I need to setup a new server which need to host one linux and one windows system. The windows system need to have access to one analog modem and thus I need vt-d to assign pci- adresses to the windows guest to bring some usb-ports into windows. I''m correct? Now I''m searching a small 19" rack server

Error: failed to assign device...VT-d isn''t enabled properly(?)
Dear List, I need to make an Aladdin eToken Pro visible in a Linux guest HVM, but I cannot assign the device to any domU, while it''s being blocked by the dom0. To avoid this trouble I would like to pass the whole USB bus to the domU directly, via PCI passthrough. Now I use xen 3.3.0 from xensource and xen kernel from Ubuntu 8.04 2.6.24-19-xen, because the xensource xen kernel

is Intel VT-d "really" necessary?
Hi all, I'm just curios and would like some input from the community on this one. We're busy budgeting for a couple of new servers and I thought it would be good to try out the Core i7 CPU's, but see the majority of them don't offer VT-d, but just VT-x. Looking at the LGA1366 range, only the "Intel lga1366 i7 980XE" (from the list of what our suppliers stock) have VT-d,

VT-d support in HVM?
Hi, I''ve recently setup a few machines with 3.2 64bit without any unresolvable problem. These machines all run pv domU''s and a view "basic" hvm domUs. As I''ve got one machine left for internal use and testing, I would like to take a look at pciback with VT-d support (bios screen shows a VT-d [enable|disable]). My question is, do I need to add patches, or use

Success: VT-d on ASUS P6T
Hi, I''ve successfully used VT-d on an ASUS P6T mainboard which is known to have really buggy RMRR tables. I tested passtrough with: - the onboard (fake-)raid-controller (no problems) - a pci card (no problems) - VGA cards (worked only partly - I''ll investigate that) I wrote a little patch to the code parsing the RMRR tables and enabled the following command line options:

Finally cracked the mystery of motherboards with Vt-d support
After contacting Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, this is what I got back. Only motherboards with the QXX chipsets and certified with the Intel VPro support the Vt-d virtualization technology. I''m not sure about MSI though, because this is what I got from their support: "Almost board could support. Please refer to our website, http://www.msi.com/product/mb/." The problem is that

Problem with VT-d on Mainboard Intel DQ45CB
Hello all, this mail is related to a post by Axel Schöner that I found at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.xen.user/40621 when I was searching the WEB about solutions to my problem. I would like to confirm that VT-d with XEN 3.3 kernel 2.6.18.8 on mainboard Intel DQ45CB seems to be broken. Survey (details are down below) --------------------------------------- Whenever I boot my
