what hardware shuld I but to manage 100k of connections per day?
I''m doing a fotolog for a company.
It''s expected to manage about 100k of connections per day and about 1500
concurrents connections.
What hardware should I buy to manage those numbers of connections?
I''m planning to use slackware + lighttpd + fastcgi, but perhaps we will
have to reuse some scripts in php, in that case I would use slackware +
apache + mod_php + fastcgi

list of countries, states, cp, etc.
I''m doing a registration form.
I saw many registrations forms which asks you for a country and it lists
all the countries of the world, and when you select a country the form
is actualized with all the states or provinces, and when you select a
state/province then the form is actualized with all the cities.
I''m looking to do something like that, is there a free service or pay

web service authentication
after almost a week of trial and error, i''ve finally got a hold of

Freelance Rate
Hi,
Not sure where to address this question ... but I guess this is a good
start. I am a freelance Rails developer - and have been developing Rails
apps professionally for about a year now. I just want to get an idea of
what you other freelancers charge yourselves out at. I have been
charging the equivalent of about $28/hour, but get a sense that I
could/should charge a whole lot more. I am

How to display numbers or word graphically?
Some blog sites and others (ticketmaster, for example) require you to
read a graphical representation of a word or number to prevent a form
from being submitted programmatically.
I''d like to do something similar on a new site I''m building.
Two quick questions:
1. Is there a standard term for these graphical representations? i.e.
how would I do a google search for this

newbie validation
hi there. Here is the simple scenario:
My active record connects to a table that contains an integer field.
My form contains a text box that allows me to enter a value to get
updated to the integer field.
If anything gets entered that is anything other than a POSITIVE INTEGER,
I want to display an error.
I have noticed that if I create a new active record like
@record =

validates_numercality_of with allow_nil.
In the model I have:
validates :square_meters_public_land, :barrier_meters, :numericality
=> { :greater_than_or_equal_to => 0 }, :allow_nil => true
but if, in the field, on create, I don''t insert a value I have the
error "field is not a number".

validates_numericality_of
As far as I can tell "numericality" is not a word. Maybe this method
should be renamed.

validates_numericality_of positive integer
Hi,
What is the simplest way to validate a positive integer?
validates_numericality_of :foo, :integer_only => true
how do I add the positive part? Do I need another validation statement
for pattern matching or do I have to write a validate() funciton for
my model?
Thanks,
Peter
