Shared File System
I have a few cases where I need to share a filesystem (Read/Write) with
multiple DomUs. Currently I use NFS to accomplish this task. However, NFS
on Fedora 7 locks up under heavy traffic from time to time, forcing a
reboot. Wouldn''t want that on the Dom0.
Any one recommend a good way of sharing a file system in read/write with
multiple DomUs?

wallclock time for paravirtualized guests
The paravirtualized guests are offered wallclock time referenced to UTC only, while fully virtualized guests are given the option via the config file (localtime parameter) of starting with UTC time or local time.
What would it take to optionally provide localtime to the paravirtualized guests as well?
For a guest that launches assuming localtime as its time basis, then later deriving UTC from it

Solaris 10 HVM on Intel VT?
Can I run 8/07 fully virtualised on an Intel VT CPU (with a Linux Dom0)?
I gave up on 11/06 because of real mode problems. If not, does anyone
have an estimate of when this might be possible, if at all?
Thanks -

Xen/VMWare co-existence?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi all,
I''ve been working on a project recently which we want to virtualize. It
runs on Windows Server 2003, so my first attempt was to put it in a HVM
domU. Sadly, this application requires network performance higher than
HVM is seemingly capable of. In the absence of PV drivers for Windows,
I tried running it on VMWare instead, and I

AMD SVN and Xen3
So, as promised, here an first summary.
Hardware: AMD Athlon64 X2-4600+ with Asus M2N-Mainboard.
Just a short hint: By far not all memory modules work with the Asus
boards! Make sure to have compatible ones...
After 2 days of trial and error I got the following results:
Debian "Sarge" x64: Doesn''t like the new nVidia SATA-Controller (will
check today with PATA-interface)

how does hypervisor isolates DomU from Dom0
I am not clear with the working of hypervisor xen.
How does an instruction executed by kernel in Ring0 of DomU gets
mapped or executed by hypervisor and then is excuted in Dom0.
Is this thing some where on the wiki page?

VMWare vs. Xen, is the conflict by VMware deliberate?
I''ve been trying to virtualize SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 for various reasons,
and found that the Xensource 4.x doesn''t support it, nor does the open
source Xen 3.x in any of the environments I''ve tried. It works on
VMware, but for various reasons I prefer to use Xen on my Dom0. (I like
open source, and the base OS for the commercial reasons is much, much
more recent, and

Re: unable to access Linux HVM via xm console - Couldnot read tty from store: No such file or directory
HVM = fully virtualized. The question is, why are you using fully virtualized domUs? Why not paravirtualized (PV)?

Full Virtualization Windows XP Network Question
Folks,
I am running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.1
with Xen. I have an Intel CPU with full virtualization
enabled.
I am able to install Windows XP as a fully virtualized
GUEST, but I am having problem getting it to see
the NIC that SLES 10 sees.

Re: How much is involved in porting a new OS to Xen fullvirtualizaiton?
Well, first, you''re going to have a lot of trouble getting anyone to touch SCO these days. With all the legal stuff they''ve pulled over the past couple of years I''m sure that no one is going to be eager to get in their way on purpose.
What issues are you having getting SCO to run under XEN? Theoretically, with XEN HVM support, you ought to be able to run just about

Need clarifications: Xen and winXP HVM: pci direct access, USB, desktop resolution
Hi list,
I''m totally new at xen and apologize for my ignorance. What I''m trying
to do is the following:
I''ve got a laptop with core 2 duo cpu.
Dom0: Fedora Core 6.
Dom1: WinXP HVM
I want to give the Dom1 full access to the wifi card, and the
possibility to use USB pen drive. So I''ve hidden the pci address

Can''t install Windows 2003 on SLES10SP1
I finally have a xen server to play with stuff that''s causing me
problems on my production servers. One of those problems is simply
installing Windows 2003. Here''s what I do:
Open virt-manager
set up a new install:
full virt
512 ram
20 gig sparse file
boot off /dev/cdrom
The install starts as you''d expect. When it gets to the formatting I
tell it to format in NTFS.

vmplayer on xen guest
Hi!
I need to install vmplayer on Xen guest with centos4.4.
When I run vmplayer-config.pl I have problems with inserting vmmon module in kernel. The dmesg shows this message
vmmon: Unknown symbol xen_features
I read on the forums that vmware is not running on Xen. What I am wondering is if this affirmation refers also to vmplayer and if not how can I skip this problem?
Thanks in advance!

Equivalent of XenBus for fully-virtualized Xen
Hello,
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenBusDriver?highlight=%28xenbus%29
says that "XenBus provides a bus abstraction for paravirtualized drivers
to communicate between domains. In practice, the bus is used for
configuration negotiation, leaving most data transfer to be done via
page flipping."
What is the equivalent mechanism for fully-virtualized drivers in Xen

Creating a paravirtualized guest with Xen 3.4.1 and Centos 5.3 (64bit)
Hi,
I have a set of 32bit HVM images running fine under Xen 3.2.1 and Xen 3.4.1. Due to performance issues with the fully virtualized setup, I would like to migrate one of those images to a paravirtualized image to compare the network performance. As I do not have a Xen-aware kernel for that VM, I thought the best would be to provide one from outside.
Sounds like an easy task, doesn''t

Slow TCP performance between Windows Vista and Xen PV-on-HVM guest
I am running a Xen HVM guest with netfront PV drivers. This is running SLES10 SP3 inside the guest. The Dom0 is also SLES10 SP3.
Now I am trying to communicate from that HVM guest to a Windows Visa or also Windows 7 machine and I am getting really poor TCP performance. When tracing on the network traffic, I can see that no packets are dropped or missing or anything, but what happens is that the

Xen in Linux distributions
Hello,
I have been using Xen for many years now. I have mainly used it on
Ubuntu and Debian, but I have also tried it on CentOS 5. Most of my
machines have been installed a few years back. Then there seemed to be
good packages for most distributions and a lot of nice examples on how
to get it working.

terrible problems with Xen on SLES 10.2 / 11
Hello everyone,
I''m totally new to Xen and trying to run it on some platforms (x86, x64)
using SLES (that is what I have to use for reasons other than technical).
Several machines on which I tried using Xen simply fails to run normally
using Xen kernel: either network communication is not functioning at all
despite proper configuration (that works on non-Xen kernel), or the
kernel
