XEN HVMs on LVM over iSCSI - test results, (crashes) and questions
Hi all, some results from my configuration. I''ve this configuration (I''m not interested in raw top performances but in reliability.. so, I can accept slow MB/sec and prefer to rely on a RAID6, for example): 1 Infortrend iSCSI Array A16E-G2130-4 with: - 1GB DDR cache - RAID6 - 7 x 500GB sataII Seagate ST3500630NS with 16mb (no budget for SAS) - one of the logic volumes (about

Xen HVMs run VERY slowly on SAN box
We are running a 2-node cluster with Debian Squeeze (2.6.32-5-xen-amd64) and Xen 4.0.1 on the dom0 and Ubuntu lucid domUs. We are now using fully virtualized (HVM) vms. In our configuration the dom0 administers to domUs created and run on a SAN box accessed via private network (192.168...). A sample configuration file is pasted below. We have had little or no IO problem with HVMs created and

LVM recovery questions
Hi, I have a centos 4 box i use for a file server (nfs and samba). It has two hdd: hda is for the standard install; hdb is for /export/samba/netdisk0 hda is lost - it just clicks now i think hdb is still good i can't figure out how i can remount the hdb disk in a new machine and retrieve the info from it; i've scanned the LVM howto and googled some LVM topics, but nothing seems to

steps to add a new physical disk to existing LVM setup in new centos box?
Not a centos specific question here, but if anyone can save me from shooting myself in the foot would appreciate any pointers.... I have an older centos 4.7 box that I recently replaced with a newer one running centos 5.3. I'd like to add the hard disk from the older one to the newer one before I scrap it for good. I don't care about the data on it, would just like the extra drive

HA Xen on 2 servers!! No NFS, special hardware, DRBD or iSCSI...
I''ve been brainstorming... I want to create a 2-node HA active/active cluster (In other words I want to run a handful of DomUs on one node and a handful on another). In the event of a failure I want all DomUs to fail over to the other node and start working immediately. I want absolutely no single-points-of-failure. I want to do it with free software and no special hardware. I want

Where is the LVM config stored?
Hi, I am trying to migrate one of my systems to a VMware virtual machine.. The PC is an IDE drive using LVM and the virtual machine is a SCSI drive using ordinary partitions.. Basically I rsynced the entire filesystem from the physical to the virtual machine and that seemed to work just fine.. I installed grub onto the drive in the virtual machine and its booting fine.. The problem comes

Resizing lvm fails with fedora20
Hi, I'm trying to resize a 15GB LVM root partition on a fedora20 server with a fedora20 guest and I'm having a problem. Is this supported on fedora20? I recall having a similar problem (maybe even exact same problem) all the way back in fedora16 or fedora17, but hoped/thought it would be fixed by now? # virt-df -h test1-011015.img Filesystem Size Used

LVM VG disappears after kernel upgrade on 5.1
I finally got 5.1 to boot after install (install couldn't keep the disk IDs from getting crossed up, so at reboot partitions were not where install said they would be). I needed to compile vmware and nvidia modules, but decided to upgrade first. Told yumex to upgrade everything. When I went to reboot the VG with / on it is not seen by the kernel. (root partition is LVM on top of RAID

Recovering LVM after crash
I've been trying to cover data from a disk that appeared to had been corrupted after a power outage. The original setup was lvm on md raid 1 which appears to be what is complicating the issue. Apart from /boot, everything was on LVM partitions so I don't have any backup lvm information. Following various guides online, I've recreated duplicated the raid partition with dd onto a new

Upgrading to larger HD with LVM
What's the easiest way to transition to a larger HD when using LVM2? I'm running Centos 4.4. I'm going from a 20gb HD to a 40gb HD. I've already DD'd it to the 40gb HD. So now I have 20gb of unused space. Ideally, I'd like to make it one big physical space for the logical space instead of making another physical partition to expand the logical. Here is what I have now

Can''t see changes in LV Size inside domU (after lvextend on dom0)
Hi guys, I''ve seen this post regarding "lvm resize" and this contains all the information I need to resize a disk inside domU : http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-11/msg00019.html >From this post: "With this I can extend the LVs in the Dom0, and either shutdown the DomU and resize2fs from Dom0 or even (tested on test VMs and low-use

Installing problem with only a LVM logical volume as DomU partition and no complete disk
Hi, I''ve created a DomU to run Fedora on a LVM logical volume. On the DomU, this LVM logical volume is a partition and not a disk, like this: (on the Dom0) [root@beast ~]# lvs LV VG Attr LSize Origin Snap% Move Log Copy% devel volume -wi-ao 128.00G [root@beast ~]# cat /etc/xen/devel.xen (...) disk = [ ''phy:mapper/volume-devel,sda1,w'' ] (...)

Etch Xen3.0.3: HVM XP with LVM problems
hi, i created a hvm config for XP. The disk is a LVM Volume with 2GB space, but after starting the installation, windows shows only 1MB as partition space: kernel = "hvmloader" builder = ''hvm'' memory = 512 name = ''winxp'' boot = "d" on_reboot = ''destroy'' vif = [ ''type=ioemu'' ] disk = [

KVM raw on DRDB on LVM logical volume?
Hi, I'm trying to get KVM VMs set up right on top of DRBD, with a dedicated DRBD mirror instance on top of a dedicated pair of LVM LVs per VM - allowing, for instance, primary-secondary DRBD assignments at the same granularity as the VMs. In other words, I want to put VMs in raw format directly to the DRBD block device, just as they are commonly put to an LV block device, with the DRBD block

Debian Sarge Root Raid + LVM + XEN install guide (LONG)
Hello fellow xenophiles and happy new year! I''ve documented the install procedure for a prototype server here since I found no similar document Anywhere on the net. It''s a Sarge-based Domain0 on linux root raid from scratch, using LVM to store the data for the domU mail server and its mailstore. I humbly submit my notes in the hope that they are useful to some weary traveller.

LVM related bug in the GPL PV drivers for Windows?
Dear Xen users! In case you were struggling with recent version of th gplpv drivers, I''ve possibly found an LVM related bug in it, and reported to James Harper. Thats''s the point: I''ve tested the mentioned version of your driver on top of 32bit xen-3.2.1 32bit xen-3.3.0 and 64bit xen xen-3.3.0 hypervisors, dom0 was always an appropriate version of a 32bit PAE kernel,

FS problems on Centos4 LVM
I was creating some directories (mkdir xxxx) while cd'ed to a mounted LV. The first couple of directories were created but subsequent attempts give the following error: #mkdir: cannot create directory `xxxxx': Input/output error The contents of /var/log/messages shows this: Aug 5 10:48:57 inet05 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } Aug 5 10:48:57
