Rsync's Speed
During my initial download for my home directory backup, it took rsync
over 6 hours to do the initial backup, but I can FTP the stuff in about
30 Mins. Is Rsync usualy this slow? I have compression turned on, and
its across a 100 MB/S network, Anyone had this problem before?

DomU suspension/hibernation
Hey,
I thought there was supposed to be an ability for domU''s to be put into a hibernated state (E.g. current running tasks and memory) when dom0 is shutdown or rebooted. When
I look in my /etc/default/xendomains file, I have the variable''s "XENDOMAINS_SAVE=/var/lib/xen/save" and "XENDOMAINS_RESTORE=true". However, when I reboot, I always have

Xen4CentOS 6 64bit - domUs don't shutdown on dom0 after "yum upgrade" to 4.6.1
Hello all,
I'm addressing the mailing list following the suggestion of gwd on
#centos-virt @freenode IRC.
The subject says most of it. Here are the details :
- Was running 4.4.x and configured such that /etc/xen/auto domUs would be
saved/restored on dom0 shutdown/bootup.
- Installation was based on "centos-release-xen" such that "yum upgrade"
brough Xen to 4.6.1.

[Patch[ xl problems with xendomains
Hi,
Ever since xl become the preferred toolstack, I have had problems using
the xendomains startup/shutdown script. Having retested today, it seems
that the issues are now reduced down to xendomains being unable to
restart previously saved domains.
Here is a typical session using xl running Xen 4.2.2 on Ubuntu 64 12.04
bit server, using stock Dom0 kernel (3.2.0-43-generic)

changing behavior of xendomains stop
I''m running xen 3.1.2 as bastardized by RedHat on a redhat
clone operating system. I''m using the xendomains script
as it came out of the box to start my domU''s at boot
and stop them at shutdown.
There are three problems right now:
1) left to its own devices,
service xendomains stop
attempts to do "xm save" on each of the domU''s. that
takes quite a

Storage upgrade maildir suggestions?
Hi,
we start to run out of diskspace soon as our users start to keep mails
for longer time periods. That's fine, but space consuming.
The maildirs are about 1 TB in total, and not long ago we enabled zlib
which is very nice.
Now I have some thoughts about the next steps:
a) Migrating the whole system to a new server with more storage?
b) Install a virtual server for the mailsystem and an

ZFS - SWAP and lucreate..
Good morning everybody
I was migrating my ufs ? rootfilesystem to a zfs ? one, but was a little upset finding out that it became bigger (what was clear because of the swap and dump size).
Now I am questioning myself if it is possible to set the swap and dump size by using the lucreate ? command (I wanna try it again but on less space). Unfortunately I did not find any advice in manpages.

How to auto-start Guests when using 'xl' toolstack? 'old' configs in /etc/xen/auto/ are ignored without xend service active.
I''ve migrated my Dom0 host to Xen 4.2.0 + xl toolstack.
With ''xm'' toolstack, configs in /etc/xen/auto are autostarted, assuming
xend/xendomains services are started.
IIUC, when using xl toolstack, those services are not to be started;
and, afaict, the installation process for 4.2 has them disabled by
default.
Now, the configs in /etc/xen/auto are simply ignored. I

adding SAN "diskspace" to CentOS system residing on VMware
Hey, group,
I've got a system installed on a VMware VM. The SAN administrator
allocated me more disk space from the (EMC) SAN and I need ultimately to
create another partition to mount on the filesystem. Two (initial)
questions about this:
What steps do I need to take prior to creating a new partition with
fdisk? (The SAN space, BTW, is connected through VMware.)
The OS is already

CentOS5 installation crashes
Im installing CentOS5.1 on an Acer Aspire 5021 laptop with AMD Turion64
and ATI X700 128MB gfx card.
I want to partition my 80MB ATA disk as LVM, so I:
Choose custom partition.
delete all existing partitions.
add one LVM vg partition taking up entire disk. I do not change any
default options.
I then click the LVM button to add my logical volumes as follows:
5GB /
8GB /home
5GB /tmp

Disk Partitioning Questions....
I am working on starting Virtural Servers at my office and have questions regarding disk partitioning recommendations.
I am using SLES 10 SP2..... RAID 5.... 280G available... no external storage...
1 - Should the DOM be on primary partition and then place the VM''s in LVM?
2 - Should I create partitions in the LVM for each of my VM''s separately or can they all reside on the

DomU Guests not shutting down nicely when Dom0 Hypervisor shuts down
I am using Xen 4.6.0-8.el7 on CentOS 7 with 3 Linux DomUs. I did have Xen 4.? on CentOS 6.5 on my previous system. I installed using yum install centos-release-xen.
On shutting down the Hypervisor it used to wait for the DomUs to shut down gracefully (one can take a minute or more), then on starting up again it would restart the DomUs, all nice and controlled.
For some reason the DomUs (CentOS

Bug#452721: xen-utils-common: "xendomains" does not restore domains in same order as it would start them
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 3.0.3-0-2
Severity: wishlist
The "xendomains" init script will start domains according to the order
of config files found in /etc/xen/auto/*. I use this so that, in the
event of a hard reboot, the more important domains will start first.
Some of these contain essential services like DNS resolvers, slapd and
so on, and since starting xen domains

Mixed dom0/domU usage?
Hi,
I'm wondering about the impact of using both dom0 and domU's on a server at
the same time. I'm worried about the performance impact of running a Mysql
server in a domU and now I'm thinking about moving the Mysql part of a LAMP
setup into dom0 and running a few Apache guests as domUs. Since the Apaches
will serve mostly from an NFS share they won't have much impact on

xendomains and xl toolstack question
Hello all
I''ve just installed xen 4.1.1 on my server and was tryoing to tweak
xendomains script to work with new xl schema but I canĀ“t get it to save
domains. It does start them with some changes I made to it but when I issue
service xendomains stop I just get [ OK ] but domains stay running.
Has xendomains script been ported to work with 4.1.1 or is there another
alternative to it.
