Samba 4 slow write
Hi Jones,
many thanks for your reply.
Yepp, I'm using ACL's (Posix ACL's) on filesystem to regulate the
access of users for files and directories.
Do you mean that this is the "normal" way? These geteuid and
getegid system calls are so slow?
On the previous system (Debian Wheezy, Samba 3) I've also used
ACL's, but there were much faster than this...

Find_all_by and find(:all) to only select certain values for a selection box
So....let''s have a look if I understood the issue:
-Find_all_by is actually the same like Find(:all), however Find_all_by
is much shorter and less complicated than the syntax of Find(:all)
-So in my CONTROLLER it says @files = find(:all) however I don''t want
to see all files displayed in my selection box, because I only want to
see the foles whose mandant_id is the same like

don't want xtab sorting "numeric" factors...
r-gurus,
I couldn't find an answer to this and after an hour or so of trying all
types or ways to do this, I've given up for now.
I'm having trouble getting the results from xtabs to generate
"unsorted" factors. I've generated a sample data.frame I want to
create a table from, using xtabs, and the results are presented below,

created data doesn't remain when split...
I've been trying to figure out why the following is happening....
I've got some data I'll load in from a file...
rm(list=ls(all=TRUE))
trees <- read.table( "c:/cruisepak/data.txt", header=T)
trees$ct <- 1
And when I create some temp variable, then split the data to perform further
processing, the additional column doesn't maintain the data correctly....

ruby rails performance
Hi-
We just finished our app and I tested for performance with httperf. Our
setup is browser -> apache2.2-> mod_poxy balancer-> mongrel cluster -> 3
mongrel servers.
I have noticed that the total request per second is is about 7.5. When I
increase the no of mongrel to 5, it inches up to 8 req/s.
My question is how bad or good this number is? We are on a old dell 2400
machine

disk I/O problems and Solutions
Hey folks,
CentOS / PostgreSQL shop over here.
I'm hitting 3 of my favorite lists with this, so here's hoping that
the BCC trick is the right way to do it :-)
We've just discovered thanks to a new Munin plugin
http://blogs.amd.co.at/robe/2008/12/graphing-linux-disk-io-statistics-with-munin.html
that our production DB is completely maxing out in I/O for about a 3

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if

Switching To Raid1
I have this ASUS M2NBP-VM motherboard http://tinyurl.com/3xby3h
running CentOS 4.4 as a web/email server. It has a 500Gb SATA2 drive
with about 32Gb in use.
The motherboard supports hardware raid. Is there a way to switch to
RAID1 without reinstalling or loosing any data?
Also, if I am running raid how do I know if there is a failure on one
of the drives anyway? Is hardware RAID1 a good idea?

sieve-body extension support for deliver LDA's sieve plugin
Hello, I just read your message about sieve and body-extension in Dovecot. Do you have news on that topic?
I just have to filter mails containing a particular text fragment, and I cannot do without sieve body, I think..
Thank you for any clue you'd be able to give me !

CentOS 4 and SATA RAID
There have been several threads about SATA in the past weeks and the
problems with it. I'm still not clear, though, if SATA in general is a
problem or just specific functionality or hardware.
Do I understand correctly that "mainboard built-in" SATA RAID is a nono on
CentOS? That I would need a third-party RAID card for this? What about
SATA non-RAID or SATA2? Is SATA supposed to

Are SSD disks worth the cost for server usage?
Hi,
we want to upgrade our infrastructure and are considering renting two
different types of server by a provider:
- A: one is with 80 GB SSD (and 12 GB memory)
http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/eg_ssd.xml
- B: the other with 750 GB SATA2 (and 8 GB memory).

The target infrastructure will host:
- a few public web sites (PHP / MySQL)
- a development

Vorbis On Macintosh
I doubt that their has been any development work on bringing vorbis to
the Mac. I am trying to do just that.
I want to know whether you think I should try to port it using the
various components tht are being used to bring vorbis to Be and others
OR if i should wait till September when the public beta of Mac Os X (
which is based on Unix). I have been told that unix stuff will be fairly

CentOS & SATA
Does CentOS 4 work well with SATA drives?
Or should I build the system using IDE/PATA disks?
I'm looking for stability more than speed.
