Running snort on dom0
Hi all, I need to monitor all traffic and block bad requests on my guest machines and also on my xen host. To accomplish this I think to install snort on my dom0 host (rhel5). Somebody have tried this? What about performance on guests?? Many thanks ... -- CL Martinez carlopmart {at} gmail {d0t} com _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

Custom kernel
The first time I installed xen there were two kernels, this time with 3.0.2, there is only one kernel, everything works. I can boot my dom0 and my domU''s using this one kernel but if I want to build a custom kernel for my domU''s but I am not sure from what I read on how to go about it. Will I end up with a new kernel other than my single kernel? Should I do the kernel config in

Running Fedora Core 5 on top of SUSE 10.1
Noniko, I saw your posting titled "SUSE10.1 has a nice Xen package again" and I was wondering if you had found any documentation on how to run Fedora Core 5 on top of SUSE10.1. Did you build the Fedora environment on a separate Fedora machine and then brought it over to the SUSE machine or did you find the Fedora tools (Yum/Anaconda) on SUSE? Many thanks in advance. 2.6 Kernel Out of memory
Hi guys, Another strange behavior with some test servers. They are booted using 2.6.11.12, xen-2.0.6, Debian. The only daemons running on dom0 are : xend, smtp, quagga (ospf), portmap (nfs client), sshd. Memory usage at startup is aroung 30 MB. Dom0 reserved memory is 256 MB. The only things that happen on this server are domU''s start/stop (xm create, xm shutdown) and a

basic question on how to compile 2.4 xen
Hi Can someone help me figure out a way to compile a 2.4 kernel in a 2.6 system. Basically it keeps failing because it needs the genksyms package, which is provided in the modutils package from redhat, but obviously this isn''t presetn on the 2.6 kernel. I was wondering how the xen maintainers go about compiling their 2.4 kernel and 2.6 kernel. Do you do it on different systems then

Problem with VLANs on tg3 NICs
I have 3 machines, T60 thinkpad with e1000 NIC Dell PowerEdge 2950 with bnx2 NIC HP DL360 G4P with tg3 NIC All running xen 3.03 / 2.6.16.29-xen I have a netbootable image with 2.6.16.29-xenU. This image when it boots creates a vlan eth0.4002, and then tries to communicate on that interface to a central server. On the machines with e1000 an bnx2 NICs, this works fine. On the

iSCSI root
As promised, here''s what I did to get iSCSI root running under XenU under Debian 3.1 (Sarge): Be running linux 2.6 under XenU. Build XenU with SCSI disk support (I did them as modules) Get linux-iscsi 4.0.1.8 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-iscsi/ Build it according to the instructions there (i found it a bit tricky) and install under your XenU Get iscsi-init 4.0.1 from

etherbridge bottleneck
I ran some iperf tests today and it looks like the etherbridge is the limiting factor on throughput. In the beforetime, I saw great throughput to the VMs; over 800 Mbps. With the bridge, the numbers are in the 400s somewhere. Is this the speed I can expect from the bridge? Is there some tuning I should try, or another way to get more bandwidth into the VMs? This is with xen-2.0, 2.4.27-xen0

2.6.16 nor FC5 -xenU kernel will start under 3.0-testing
I tried building a 2.6.16 kernel from -unstable and also the -xenU kernel provided by FC5 and both will not run under 3.0-testing (changeset 8761:484a14acfc26). The 2.6.16 kernel will start and die with nothing of value in xend.log or xend-debug.log. If I run "xm create name -c" it will say it can''t open "/dev/pts/XX" and that is all the information I can

no scsi in 2.6.7-xenU?
There is no CONFIG_SCSI to enable in xenU. Is there any reason for this? I want to try out iSCSI and obviously it needs scsi support. Or would I be better doing it in dom0 and exporting it? thanks James
