Installing domU from ISO image file
I am trying to install CentOS from an ISO image file but the installer does not see a CD-ROM drive. The VNC viewer works but the CentOS installer indicates "Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation type." Then it prompts with "[Select driver] [Use a driver disk] [Back]". I have tried several variations of the "disk" paramater, all

VFS: Unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy.
I installed Xen 3.1.0 on a dual Opteron processors system from source with "make world" and "make install". The system boots up well with the 2.6.18-xen kernel. I compiled a dom0 kernel for the amd64 architetture, but the system doesn''t boots and give me this error: Root-NFS: No NFS server available, giving up. VFS: Unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy. VFS:

VFS: Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(0, 0) -- in domU
Hello again, My kernel is correct, and it''s always been correct. This error only happens if I start two or more VMs in quick sucession. If I wait a short while (i.e. time to figure out why a VM started then died) and try again, it''s fine. For testing purposes I''m using loopback files, 2 for each VM (1 filesystem, 1 swap). -- Mike Williams System Administration

Kernel Panic-not syncing VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8, 1)
Hi I just tried to install Xen (3.0.4) from source. The Installation process finished without any errors. Then after booting the XEN-Image (without initrd) I got a Kernel Panic. My machine said it was unuable to mount root fs from Sda1 or unknown-block(0,0) After some research on google, I built the SCSI and SATA drivers in the XEN-kernel and now this kernel Panic occurs: Kernel Panic-not

PXELINUX with Kernel 2.6.15.4: VFS: Cannot open root device "hde1" or unknown-block(0, 0)
Hello again, I'm always not able to boot-up my CF-FileSystem. (It works with a 2.4.x Kernel!) See: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2006-June/006942.html I dont't understand, why the kernel can't mount the root-fs on exit of "linuxrc". Before finising "linuxrc" I can work on it, start a "bash"-shell, do all sorts of linux-cmds on the root-fs...

3.18.21-16 upgrade, kernel panic, unable to mount root fs
Hi, just a heads-up: 3.18.21 didn't boot up on HP ML310e Gen8 v2, SATA drives in AHCI mode, / on software raid 1, no LVM. It ended up in kernel panic with unable to mount root fs. Attached. No difference in grub kernel/xen settings. I didn't investigate the things deeper so far. 4.4.3-3/3.18.17 is booting fine. Any similar experience? BR -- Karel -------------- next part

3.18.21-16 upgrade, kernel panic, unable to mount root fs
Indeed, a good catch. Module initramfs line was missing at 3.18.21 grub config. My case: Suse 9.3 "kernel panic - not syncing: VFS
Hi, Tom I recently got SUSE-Xen running. During the trial I got similar error: "kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable tomount root fs on unknown-block (3, 1)" This was fixed when I add to xen-config file this line: # Optional ramdisk. ramdisk = "/boot/initrd-xen" It might be commented out if you use the config file example "xmexample1".

dovecot LDA: "temporary failure"
This really has me stumped and desperate. I upgraded Debian from 5 to 6 (squeeze) and now Dovecot LDA fails. I have checked permissions and the usual. Postfix SMTP, Dovecot POP3 and Dovecot IMAP work. Having to upgrade MySQL from 5.0 to 5.1 made me question that. Logging is of little help. I have turned on logging for LDA to a separate file. When I try to run the deliver command it returns

no BkSp in plan9, ubuntu root fs failure, and what''s up with bsd?
In usual fashion, I have a few questions: 1) I can''t get the virtual terminal of plan9 to recognize either my Backspace or Delete key. This is particularly annoying; can anyone help? 2) I''ve got two linux root fs images that I created through dd: one for rubix and another for ubuntu. Rubix works brilliantly, but Ubuntu gets a kernel panic during boot. The two both mount have
