Fedora Core 3 or Fedora Core 4? yum update o r not? also: SpanDSP -pre25 for 1.0.9 is out w00t!
Word. I'm doing a dupe of my production server this week as a CYA. Guess what: FC2. Once I yum update to the current kernel, no more yum. There's no reason to. You may have your own reasons (publicly avaliable server, for example) but why add uncertainty to an, at best, quite uncertain process (that of creating a stable Asterisk install given random hardware, network conditions, PSTN

fedora core 4 + mysql 5 + dovecot
hi all just a quick question i have dovecot (0.99.14 yum install) running on my fc4 server to get this working, i had to downgrade from mysql 5 to fedora's mysql rpm's i really would prefer to use mysql 5, but to satisfy the dependencies, i had to go to mysql 4 now, i just want to know if there is an rpm (linux rather than specific fc4 version is fine) out there for dovecot, that i

Volume of patches for CentOS vs Fedora
I'm trying to come to a decision between CentOS 4.2 and Fedora Core 4 for use on a server. One of the things the server will be serving is X desktops so there are some advantages to Fedora. However, one thing I can't help but notice is that the patch volume for FC4 from Oct 11 2005 thru the present compared to CentOS 4.2 for the same period is about 5 times greater. In fact, since

Fedora Core 4 and certificates
This is a heads-up that certificates will be moving to a new location in FC4. See section 6.2.3.1 in the release notes: <http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc4/errata/>

snmp mrtg physCPU
Hallo xenusers, I search a simple variant to generate CPU,Load for MRTG. Actually I use following configuration. But I see CPU-usage of xen0 only, not a summary of all VM. - net-snmp does not support xen [1]. - dtc-xen [2] show CPU-usage from each VM, but not summary. This view is confusing. [3] For monitorings from more than 3 physical machines unpractically. - enomalism [4] is too large

Fedora Core 5 and Windows 98
Greetings All, My problem is trying to mount an SMB share from Fedora Core5 to a Windows 98 Machine. Before upgrading from FC4 to FC5 everything worked. I have searched around and it appears that the smbmount and mount -t smbfs options have been deprecated in Samba 3.0.22-1 in favor of CIFS. The command I have been trying now is: mount -t cifs //192.168.0.126/laptop /mnt/share -o username=chime

Default SELinux policy on Fedora FC4 prevents dovecot service from starting
Hello, I recently setup a Fedora FC4 server to host e-mail and webapps. During the install, I turned on SELinux in active mode. All apps seems to work OK but Dovecot daemon won't start. In the audit log, I see this entry when I try to start the dovecot daemon. type=AVC msg=audit(1141464818.541:40305): avc: denied { read } for pid=1989 comm="dovecot" name=dovecot.pem dev=md2

Fedora 4 Compile environment
Hi Does anyone have a working environmet to compile Fedora 4 xen rpm packages? Hopefully based on fc4 + additional packages. I need to have rpm-packages, because I cannot have development tools in production systems. I have looked through the archives without any working solutions. I have tried gcc32 and tune=pentium4 modifications, but I have always found new challenges (problems). -- Timo

Desiring to set up Windows Vista and Linux Fedora Core 4
Greetings! Tonight is unfortunately the first small bit of time I've had to even try to get Samba configured between my Vista and my Linux FC4. (My mother as well as my extremely limited home time dealing with important things are my main delays.) It's not going well. :-) I have added hosts allow with 192.168.1 and 192.168.2. I have experimented with a few things. I

Fedora Core 4 system lockup with wine 200506.. - 0.9.1
System specs: Fedora Core 4 2.6.13-1.1532_FC4smp ATI Radeon 9200 SE P4 2.4Ghz (hyperthreading) xorg 6.8.2 Aureal Semiconductor Vortex 2 sound card Intel 82801EB chipset wine-20050524 FC3 rpm works just fine on my FC4 system. But any versions after that lockup my system when running wine. For the 200506 - 200510 versions of wine I have compiled them from scratch so I assumed it was something

Fedora Core 4 and FC5's NEW EXT3 file system: "Reserved GDT blocks" ???
Hi, I've installed a few Fedora Core 4 and Fedora Core 5 recently, and found that the new ext3 file systems created with new mkfs.ext3(1.38+) has one more field than EXT3 created with old mkfs.ext3(1.34-), even the latter's dir_index feature was turned on and file systems were upgraded with "e2fsck -y -f -D" command. I have three questions thereafter: 1) what does the

Wine on Fedora Core 4: Street Atlas 8 & wineconsole issues
I just did a fresh installation of Fedora Core 4, using my home directories from FC3, including my .wine. In the FC3 environment, I had used winetools to install. I did not want to do a fresh installation of wine, just use an RPM that would work. Alas, I had to fall back to 20041201. SA 8: I installed and uninstalled wine-20050524-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm, wine-20050310-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm

No Fedora Core Builds for 0.9.3+
I've tried to contact the RPM builder for the RedHat and Fedora Core packages but I have not received a response in a few days. Every other maintainer gets their packages out the door the same day as a WINE snapshot hits. Maybe the RedHat maintainer needs to drop RedHat 7.x/8.x/9.x and FC 1 and 2... and focus on FC3 and FC4. Does anyone have any word of the release of these packages? Yes, I

problem with out-of-box fedora rpm
Hi Folks, Most of the available howtos suggest that an out of the box binary rpm should at least be able to start on a similarly out of the box Fedora Core 4 installation. However, whenever I run /sbin/service dovecot start I get a failed message. Dovecot was installed using the standard package that ships with FC4 (i386 0.99.14). The only slightly anomalous feature of my system is that wlan0

Re: Demonizing generic Linux issues as Fedora Core-only issues -- MySQL 3 v. 4 linking licensing issues
From: Johnny Hughes <mailing-lists at hughesjr.com> > RHEL-4 shipped with MySQL 4.1.x (and has a 3.23.58 client to work with > older databases) ... the latest SRPMS are mysql-4.1.10a-1.RHEL4.1.src.rpm > and mysqlclient10-3.23.58-4.RHEL4.1.src.rpm. You are indeed correct (I must have been looking at the RHEL3 dir**):
