VT-ready workstation for SuSE10.1/Xen and Windows
I''m wondering if the new Dell Precision 490 workstation is/looks to be
VT-ready, planning it for SuSE10.1/Xen and unmodifies Windows guest?
From the system specs:
1-2 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5000 series 64-bit processors
Intel 5000X chipset
Windows XP/Vista or Redhat EWS4 Linux

xen, VT and an OS from Redmond
Hi there
We''re planning to buy a new server with a PentiumD with VT.
Unfortunately we have some legacy server software which runs on Windows
only and for that reason I have to install WindowsXP under Xen3.
The problem is that I didn''t find too much documentation (tutorials,
howtos, whatever) which describes installation and experiences with
WinXP, besides some problem

Error: failed to assign device...VT-d isn''t enabled properly(?)
Dear List,
I need to make an Aladdin eToken Pro visible in a Linux guest HVM, but
I cannot assign the device to any domU, while it''s being blocked by
the dom0.
To avoid this trouble I would like to pass the whole USB bus to the
domU directly, via PCI passthrough.
Now I use xen 3.3.0 from xensource and xen kernel from Ubuntu 8.04
2.6.24-19-xen, because the xensource xen kernel

Intel VT-d Support
Hello all,
please tell me, how can I be sure that
my Xen installation is built with Intel VT-d support?
Something like
xm info | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION
xm dmesg | grep -i KEY-REGULAR-EXPRESSION
What a line should I look for?
And if my installation was really built with VT-d support,
how can I be sure, that Xen has successfully
initialized VT-d hardware?
I have read [1] and the

Motherboard capable of VT-d
Hi!
I''ve got a motherboard (Gigabyte GA-G33-DS3R) where the Ethernet port has
been broken.
I''ll buy a new motherboard, but wants to keep all my other equipment (CPU,
Memory, TV-cards etc).
The requirements/wishes on the new motherboard are 2 Ethernet ports and 2
PCI slots. It would also be good if it would support VT-d.
I''ve found two boards that would fulfill my

Intel VT-d success
I just wanted to let you guys know that the Intel 3210SHLX server board
works with VT-d.
I''ve googled a lot, and could''t find much about it. The BIOS needs to be
updated to R0047 for it to be enbled. (or at least later than R0044 which
mine was shipped with)
I tested exporting a nic to a smothwall hvm domU, works fine. Exporting a

is Intel VT-d "really" necessary?
Hi all,
I'm just curios and would like some input from the community on this
one. We're busy budgeting for a couple of new servers and I thought it
would be good to try out the Core i7 CPU's, but see the majority of
them don't offer VT-d, but just VT-x. Looking at the LGA1366 range,
only the "Intel lga1366 i7 980XE" (from the list of what our suppliers
stock) have VT-d,

VT-d support in HVM?
Hi,
I''ve recently setup a few machines with 3.2 64bit without any unresolvable problem.
These machines all run pv domU''s and a view "basic" hvm domUs.
As I''ve got one machine left for internal use and testing, I would like to take a
look at pciback with VT-d support (bios screen shows a VT-d [enable|disable]).
My question is, do I need to add patches, or use

Re : A problem with Intel VT / XEN3
Hi,
Curiously, it''s worth noting that Xeon Processor 5100 series are not in the list of HVM Compatible Processors :

any VT-d enabled mobos for Xeon 5000 series out there ?
Hi list,
i have seen a lot of questions about VT-d on recent intel mobos.
however, it seems that all tests are done on the newer socket 775-based
xeon''s or core2''s, and not the 5000 series (socket 771 based).
i was planning on getting a intel S5000V chipset, but found out that it does
not support VT-d.
Can anyone confirm a mobo that has this enabled and also has 2x LGA771

exact Core 2 Duo setup supporting Intel-VT
Hi all,
I checked the following page but it is not
exhaustive:
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/IntelVT
(it actually doesn''t even lists Core 2 Duo
as supporting Intel-VT [it lists Core Duo
though]... I''m not familiar with Wikis, I don''t
know how I can change this myself [and I don''t
know either if I''m allowed to change it])

[PATCH 2/2] Enhance MTRR/PAT virtualization for EPT & VT-d enabled both
The patch attached is to set effective memory type for EPT according to the VT-d snoop control capability, and also includes some cleansup for EPT & VT-d both enabled.

VT or paravirtualization?
Hello,
What is the better solution now to run linux domUs under Xen3?
Using a VT hardware, sould I install a xen-patched kernel as I would
where no VT extension, or use an unmodified linux guest system?
Is there any performance difference between a Pentium D 3 Ghz with vt
(9xx) and without it (8xx)?
Regards,
Slapic
