bonding, ethtool and live migration
hi, i''m having here the problem with bonding and crcchecksum. So as i read the mailing list the solution is to run ethtool -K eth0 tx off inside domU. So my domU is reachable. All is fine. But after i migrate (live) the domU to another machine the complete domU stopped. Und I also had one time this ugly Zombie thing in xm list and couldn''t reboot the machine (only power

Migration failing (xen 3.0.3 on RHEL 5) with "not a valid guest state file: pfn count read"
Hi all, I''m having some problem migrating a simple domU between two hosts. Short question: xm migrate (live or not) fails even though either host is capable of running the VM. Error seems to be: "not a valid guest state file: pfn count read" Long question: I have two boxes (devvmdevvmhost1 and devvmhost2) running xen 3.0.3 (RHEL 5), they are attached to a Dell MD3000 unit

Migration filesystem coherency?
Hi, I thought I had a workaround for live migration crashing (I''ve been looking at the SLES 3.0.2 9742c code.), but I found that I was getting filesystem errors. I''m wondering if the problem is races in data being written to the backing storage. When migrating a domain, before the domain is started on the new host, you have to guarantee that all the domU vbd data is out of

HVM Live Migration Troubles - Xen 3.3.1
I''m having issues with HVM live migration and every xen version I''ve tried - 3.0.1, 3.1.x, 3.3.0 and 3.3.1. Migrations will fail intermittently with messages like this on the receiving hypervisor: [2009-02-02 11:35:19 12629] DEBUG (XendCheckpoint:264) [xc_restore]: /usr/lib64/xen/bin/xc_restore 4 4 2 3 1 1 1 [2009-02-02 11:35:19 12629] INFO (XendCheckpoint:403)

HA Xen cluster live migration
Hello, We have successfully implemented a 2-node HA Xen cluster with DRBD, LVM and heartbeat, that can do live migration. I wrote up some details here: http://te.to/~ts1/xen_cluster.html I''d like to say thank you to all the people writing these great software. -- Takeshi _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com

DomU freezes after migration
Hi everybody, I''m facing a strange issue with my current setup. I''ve got a working Xen 3.4.3 / DRBD 8.3.7 cluster which runs fine and is very stable. I''m using for both Dom0 and DomU''s a xen patched kernel 2.6.32.13 (tried also with 2.6.32.25 and latest gentoo ported patchset) Since I don''t need automatic failover or load balancing of guests,

RE: xen - rdma live migration support
Hi Ola, There was some code done by IBM a few years ago in conjunction with a University that worked and showed the benefits but AFAIK it was never integrated into Xen. The research paper is around on the web. A few of us requested RDMA migration support for version 4.0 and it is at the top of the request list, I suspect it is probably a case of enough people asking and Citrix approving.

(strange idea) unfriendly migration
Good day. As we all know, xen requires assist from VM to migrate it. If VM will acts wrong during migration, it will crash, or behave strangely until reboot (nice sample - default -xen kernel in lenny). We need to accept changes in domU during migration: other domain id, new vbd/vif and so on. This fine until we talks about friendly VM. But if VM is not very friendly? For example, VM''s

xen 3.1 live migration
Good morning, I installed 3 fedora core 7 machines with xen 3.1 Two machine (hp dl 360) are identical and windows guest live migration works fine. One of them is a HP dl 580 and live migration from/to hp 360 does not work. Stopping and restarting guests works in any case also if hardware is non identical. I read somewhere machine must be identical for live migration: is it true ? Why live

[XEN][vNUMA][PATCH 9/9] Disable Migration with numa_strategy
We don’t preserve the NUMA properties of the VM across the migration. Just disable the migration for now. Also, setting disable_migrate doesn’t seem to stop one from actually migrating a VM. So, this patch is only for documentation. -dulloor Signed-off-by : Dulloor <dulloor@gmail.com> _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com

Some observations on live migration & solution solicitation
Hello, I am now testing XEN live migration on 3 physical hosts with XEN 4.0.1 pvops Ubuntu 10.10 (2.6.35-22). The kernel is compiled and built with default selections plus the support for ext4 file system as well as the support for network file system server. The three hosts are connected by one D-link gigabit switch (DGS-2205). I find that: 1) If the 3 hosts are booted about the same time, the

Avoiding suspension of xen VM at source after migration.
Xen Developers: Today, we can move a VM from point A to point B. The VM ends up at point B. After that, all resources are reclaimed at point A. Is there a way we that after the migration, the VM in A continues to run. We end up with two VMs, one in A and one (its clone) in B? I assume that today''s Xen doesn''t have any feature to do this (e.g., xm clone). I wonder however if

console hangs after migration
Hi, I am very new to Xen and having problem to get the console to work properly after migration. I tried to migrate a domU session from host A to host B successfully. After migration and issuing xm console command, and type in "ls" command, the migrated domU session works fine. But if I give command such as cd.. or mkdir, the domU console hangs forever. Can anybody give me some

Changing MAC address of Xen domU after live migration?
Hi, For my experiment on live migration of Xen VMs, I want the MAC address of the migrated VM (domU) to change soon after migration, but just before the Gratuitous ARP reply is sent. Do you know where in the code/scripts I can add this feature? Thanks, Vikram _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com

The problem about Windows live migration
Hi all, We met a problem on Windows live migration handing. We use Xen 3.3s full virtualization mode to create and migrate the Windows VMs based on QEMU. The error information is as follows: 1) log said the migration was successful. However, that migrated VM on the destination hanged wherein CPU utilization kept about 48%. 2) Using XenTrace, found that the loop consisting of three events as

Re: Error: Migration not permitted with assigned PCIdevice
We use Digi Serial-over-IP devices to pass through serial ports to domUs. We''ve had success with the Digi One SP, PortServer TS, and Passport devices. I currently use the Passport 48 for IP access to all of my serial consoles (Ethernet switches, RAID arrays, FC switches, etc.) as well as to pass through a modem to my HylaFAX server, which is in a Xen domU. -Nick >>> Federico
