Physical disks + Software Raid + lvm in domU
Hi,
I''m trying to setup my box as described below:
- The Dom0 exports two disks as physical devices to the DomU
- DomU use the two devices to assemble a software raid device (/dev/md0)
- On the /dev/md0 I create a lvm volume group and lvm volumes on it.
Everything seems to work fine if the lvm volumes on the DomU are lightly
used. Under heavy load the DomU freeze up immediately.

Long delay between xen/HVM domU shutdown and releasing vbd (drbd)
Hi,
I have a running LVM-DRBD-Xen-HVM/Win2k3 cluster-stack under debian/
lenny managed by heartbeat/crm.
At takeover/failover heartbeat first is stopping my HVM-domU with
success apparently:

how to debug slow HDD performance in Windows 2003 domU ?
Hi
I''ve recently setup CentOS 5.1 x64, with a Windows 2003 Web x64 domU and
assigned 1 CPU & 1GB RAM to it.
Today, which installing something in Windows, I notice that it takes
ages to install a program. Running xm top, it doesn''t seem like it''s
running out of RAM or CPU, and checking Windows Task Manager, I can see
it consumes only 2 - 6% CPU, and 127MB RAM in

Debian Sarge Root Raid + LVM + XEN install guide (LONG)
Hello fellow xenophiles and happy new year!
I''ve documented the install procedure for a prototype server here since
I found no similar document
Anywhere on the net. It''s a Sarge-based Domain0 on linux root raid from
scratch, using LVM to store
the data for the domU mail server and its mailstore. I humbly submit my
notes in the hope that they are useful to some weary traveller.

Monitoring Network traffic of DomU
Dear All.
I have set up a Xen testbed on a computer.(Dom0 use debian lenny)
I would like to know the possible ways to monitor the network traffic of
DomU''s from Dom0.

Bug#683170: Xend causing high CPU load - starting domU failing
Package: xen-utils-4.0
Version: 4.0.1-5.2
After clean upgrade from Lenny I got xend highly use CPU resources
causing domU don't being created - due to timeouts for vifs and vbds
(mostly CPU Steal Time was increasing - no iowaits).
Tried Xen boot options acpi=noirq|ht without success. Option acpi=off
solved that issue, but performance of the server was horrible. The final
workaround was to

strange behaviour of domU - i/o performance tests
Hi,
I am currently making some i/o performance tests within domUs with iozone3.
One scenario is a domU with file-backed VBDs (root and swap) as sda1 and sda2
lying on an nfs-kernel-server (2.6.14.4 - Debian Sarge).
The exact iozone command is:
iozone -a -R -b result.xls -f /tmp/iozone.test -n 1m -g 256m -i 0 -i 1
As soon as the iozone-test comes to a filesize of 132M, the complete! system

I tried netperf / netserver with Dom0 / DomU, but I could''nt get a correct

AW: debian Lenny -> Squeeze domU mdX software raidmigration - failed to assemble arrays
Hi,
to make transitions more convenient, I've done this by using uuid instead of device names.
If you ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid inside your domU, you'll see something like

question about disk performance in domU
Hi all,
When I ran the experiments to compare an application''s execution time in both a domU (named cctest1)
and a native Linux machine (named ccn10), I noticed the application executes faster in domU. The
host of the domU (named ccn9) and ccn10 are two nodes of a cluster and they have same hardware
configurations. domU (cctest1) is created by exporting loopback files from dom0 on

Xen domU xvd disk online resize support
Hello list! (resending, it seems the previous mail didn''t make it to the list)
At some point Xen supported block-reconfigure to resize domU disks on the fly..
This is not working atm/anymore?
Discussion about the subject.. (in the end of the thread):

optimizing raid passthrough performance?
i''ve external storage (2 x 1TB drives) attached via a Multilane SATA +
RAID card (driver:sata_sil24).
my goal is a file server in DomU, serving files from a RAID array of
the two drives.
my Dom0, fwiw, is OpenSuse 11.1.
3 types of file service will be provided:
- large, media files will be served to the LAN
- active data files will be served to other DomUs over a private bridge

Hack Attack: Moving domU''s between hosts without shared disk
So I have two hosts that I want to move domU''s between, but they do
not have any shared disk. I am willing to suffer some downtime to move
the domU''s, but not a lot (like maybe the time needed to do a reboot,
but certainly not the time required to copy the virtual disks over).
This is what I did.
WARNING: THIS IS A HACK AND YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL DOING THIS.
But it worked for me

PVonHVM, Networking and xentop
All,
I have a domU running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64bit using PVonHVM which is working well but I noticed a quirk and just wanted to check it wasn''t just my misunderstanding. On my dom0 (Arch Linux, 64bit, AMD Phenom 2 X4 965 CPU, Xen 4.2.0 from my own PKGBUILD) I run "xl top" and xentop loads and shows all the currently running domains; only none of the domains have anything

Hard disk recomendation for a software raid 5 array. Does Linux Software Raid support/interacts well with TLER enabled disks.
Hi people,
I am building a cheap remote rsync backup server using a software raid

2. SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.10 with NCQ 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Serial ATA II-300

Re: RE: RE: Why creating DomU failed (seems it is duetoLVM)
Hi, Mats,
And more info:
After I modified init script in DomU''s initrd, it can boot successfully.
it is that i modified:
mount -o defaults --ro -t ext3 /dev/root /sysroot
to
mount -o defaults --ro -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /sysroot
it seems DomU loader just can''t find out which is the root device.
I don''t know why it works, so I checked the mails before, and still

new install and software raid
Is there a reason why after a software raid install (from kickstart)
that md1 is always unclean. md0 seems fine.
boot screen says md1 is dirty and
cat /proc/mdstat show md1 as being rebuilt.
Any ideas?
