Installed Kernal (default)
Is there a description or statement that describes the stock kernal in CentOS, and would give all the various modules it is compiled with? As with BSD, I assume there are things in the kernal that are mandatory, and then there are things that are optional or included so as to catch most everything one could have w/r/t hardware. That being the case, as with FreeBSD, removing those unneded

Mandrake 10, Request for comments.
My * is presently running fine on Mandrake 9.2, but Ive been entertaining moving to Mandrake 10.0 to enjoy the obvious improvement in kernal speed Im seeing on other 10.0 boxes Ive recently built for other applications. (10.0 is the first implementation of the 2.6 kernal) Any comments from anyone who's running on 10.0? IS anyone running * on Mandrake 10.0? If so, any issues stand out?

Trouble with large files and 1.9.18p10
Hi Folks, I'm new to the list, and am writing because of some trouble I am having. An old version of Samba is involved, and I am not sure that I can upgrade. I am trying to explore the issue further. I am currently using Samba 1.9.18p10 (I can hear the smack of 1,000 hands slapping foreheads now -- please read on). The problem is that the Samba server hangs when I copy a large file (~100

[fdo] Linux with Graphics and Sound
Hello Linus Torvalds, Paul Davis, The state of most desktop and office applications under Linux seem quite healthy. People are working hard making the Linux desktop work. Yet, I am very sorry, but I cannot describe the deployment and maintaince of 3D graphics and sound API's as well as drivers as anything other than woeful. My hope is an enviroment where both open-source and commcial

AW: Tall tale of woe....
Hello Ross, I've got a similar problem since a week with my server. I'm running RH 8.0 on a Xeon 1.4Ghz with 2GB RAM, too. My CPU usage was pretty low (>90% idle) but the CPU load average was at 14. For now I'm waiting for the next time it happens to get some more information. Best regards, Reiner -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: Ross McInnes (Systems)

Suse 10.1 with samba servers 3.0.22 & 3.0.23rc3 only seen by Suse 10.1 samba client as cifs
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have a Suse Linux 10.1 X86_64 server that is destined to work with a mixed bag of OS/2, Windows and Linux clients. For this reason, I have again chosen to use the SMB protocol, which mandates the use of samba. I started with samba 3.0.22, but ran into some glitches so migrated to 3.0.23rc3. My Linux client is running Suse 10.1 X86_32 with samba

SUSE 10.1 64 bit binary
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had created a 64 bit binary for SUSE 10.1 x86_64 yet. Unfortunately, I upgraded before looking whether a package was available and now cannot find a suitable package on CRAN. If noone has produced one yet, does anyone have any idea when one will be available? Many Thanks Daniel Brewer

Tall tale of woe....
For the last year or so i have been having problems in general with samba (various versions) on the same box. Dell 2500 Xeon 1.8 with 2gb of ram running Redhat 8. What will happen from time to time (although its now happened 3 times in the last 5 days, hence this email) is people will be slow to log in, if at all. Several things appear to happen. Roller Coaster Tycoon, Suse 10.1, installer silently dies
I have a fresh install of Suse 10.1 and wine 9.21 and tried to install roller coaster tycoon for some fun. However the installer quickly dies silently. I've tried using different versions of wine with no succes. The frustrating thing is that on different versions of Suse this installed beautifully. I've tried using winetools to set up my ~.wine, but still $wine setup.exe gives me

Xen 4.0 with Remus on Suse 10.1??
Hello, I am trying to set up a Xen/Remus test configuration on AMD64 hardware (HP DL380 G6) under SuSE 10.1 and am having trouble. I was able to run and configure the Xen 3 that came with SuSE fine, but as far as I can see, I have to use Xen 4 to get Remus. I managed to build Xen 4 from source and it seemed to install, but I am not sure how to get the proper kernel and/or initrd files in place

Running Fedora Core 5 on top of SUSE 10.1
Noniko, I saw your posting titled "SUSE10.1 has a nice Xen package again" and I was wondering if you had found any documentation on how to run Fedora Core 5 on top of SUSE10.1. Did you build the Fedora environment on a separate Fedora machine and then brought it over to the SUSE machine or did you find the Fedora tools (Yum/Anaconda) on SUSE? Many thanks in advance. [LLVMdev] Problems building cfrontend 4 source on SUSE 10.1

For systems that have gcc 4.2 natively installed, like the current Debian testing, the compiler gets GCC_4.2.0 version errors. It isn't easy to work around b/c xgcc wants to link
