3.0.2 + Hyperthreading ?
Hi, I have two boxes with 2 * Xeon 3.0 Ghz I''ve enabled Hyperthreading in the BIOS. - One box is with Xen 3.0.1 I''ve enabled SMP + SMT in my kernel Xen0 config, and SMP + SMT works perfectly. I can see 4 cpus in my VCPU list for Domain0, and I see also 4 CPUs in the /proc/cpuinfo file. - One box is with Xen 3.0.2 I''ve enabled SMP in my kernel Xen0 config, and SMT has

etherbridge bottleneck
I ran some iperf tests today and it looks like the etherbridge is the limiting factor on throughput. In the beforetime, I saw great throughput to the VMs; over 800 Mbps. With the bridge, the numbers are in the 400s somewhere. Is this the speed I can expect from the bridge? Is there some tuning I should try, or another way to get more bandwidth into the VMs? This is with xen-2.0, 2.4.27-xen0

Intel's latest L1TF vulnerability and libvirt
Hi, with regards Intels L1TF vulnerabilities, it seems they are somewhat non-committal on whether turning off HyperThreading is required, suggesting people > Consult with your hypervisor vendor for more guidance. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/l1tf.html#faq-answers-10-0 What is the consensus in the Libvirt community about the risks (or not) of leaving

Why is irqbalance not balancing?
I am running irqbalance with default configuration on an Atom 330 machine. This CPU has 2 physical cores + 2 SMT (aka Hyperthreading) cores. As shown below the interrupt for the eth0 device is always on CPUs 0 and 1, with CPUs 2 and 3 left idle. But why? Maybe irqbalance prefers physical cores? My understanding, though, is that the even-numbered CPUs are the physical cores, with the

xen and 64 bit host OSes
Hi, I understand that 64-bit support for xen (from the side of host OSes) will be a little late, so i have a couple of questions: 1) Can i install a x86 32-bit xen kernel on x86_64 pc, without problems? 2)If i install a x86_64 xen kernel, can i run 32-bit host OSes on it? I know little about Xen, so i''d like to clear these out. Thanks

Problem with Dell Poweredge 1850
All, I seem to be experiencing the same problem that Michal Urbanski talked about in an email dated March 24th with a subject of "hanging dell hardware". Looking through the archives I can not find any resolution to the problem. The specs on my machine are Dell Poweredge 1850 Dual Xeon 2.8s 1gig ram PERC 4e/SI raid controller in mirror configuration with 2 73 gb drives (uses the

hyperthreading and zaptel
My Dell 2800 Dual 64bit Proc. machine came in with hyperthreading enabled. (they call it virtual processor??) I have been intending for a month to disable it. Tonight, I rebooted, turned it off, and let the system come up. zaptel loaded and asterisk loaded, but both of my t1s were red. (it is a TE411P) /proc/interrupts looked OK, zttest gave OK numbers. I doublechecked all of the files in case

Problems with hyperthreading in Windows HVM
Hi, I have been trying to get Hyperthreading to work in a Windows HVM on Xen 4.1.2 as described in ''xmexample.hvm''. I think I have set it up correctly, but I can''t seem to get it to work. There is not much documentation on it and most topics are from years ago. I''m curious to know to whether this functionality is still supposed to work. I''m aware that

P4 processor with Hyperthreading and Asterisk
Hello, I read an interesting article on 2cpu.com that talks about the performance differences between a P4 processor with Hyperthreading(HT) enabled and disabled. http://www.2cpu.com/articles/ht_explored/index.html The bottom line of the article is that processor intensive applications greatly benefit from HT being enabled, but memory intensive applications can actually see a slight decrease in

Building XEN with different config PROBLEM
Hello. Up to version 3.0.4, I did the following to get two xen kernels (dom0 and domU) with my own config: wget http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos/xen/downloads/... make xen make tools make docs make linux-2.6-xen0-config CONFIGMODE=menuconfig make linux-2.6-xen0-build make linux-2.6-xen0-install make linux-2.6-xen0-dist make linux-2.6-xenU-config CONFIGMODE=menuconfig make

R: Hyperthreading?
That's the problem we had with Asterisk and HT on a 2.4 Kernel: whenever Asterisk was staying in the RTP stream, and HT was enabled (on a Dell Dual Xeon system), we had choppy audio. After disabling HT, everything was fine again. Nothing measurable, indeed, but you could definitely hear it. So there *must* be something. -Manuel -----Messaggio originale----- Da: Peter Corlett

Hyperthreading ON causes OOPS on boot
I just tried to install CentOS (x86_64 4.4 and i386 4.3, not both at once, when I found the 64bit version didn't boot, I tried the 32bit version, same result) on a dual Naconda Xeon system. I get an OOPS just after the IDE info is printed on the screen during boot (this is booting off the CD during the install phase). After mucking about with the bios settings (and many reboots later), I

Won''t boot to Xen, GRUB Problem
I am installing Xen on a remote server. I left the other kernels on the grub.conf and made xen the default to boot from. The box didn''t boot into Xen on reboot but I''m not sure why. hdc: lost interrupt
I am seeing a kernel message, "hdc: lost interrupt", when running LTP on the xen0 domain. The first time I saw the ''kernel: hdc: lost interrupt'' in /var/log/messages, I was running LTP on both xen0 and xenU domains. The xenU domain was totally hung at this point. Suspecting a setup error, I re-checked the installation and reran LTP on xen0 alone, without having
